Technical Questions

I do not have a MMWSID (MenuMania Web Service ID) or it is not working

Please verify that you are providing a MMWSID in your request and that the value is identical to the one emailed to you when access to the API was granted.

Can I query for a specific restaurant?

Yes. To get a particular restaurant from the API, you can query by the MenuMania listing id that is returned in the API.

Can I retrieve full-text reviews?

At this time the API only returns snippets of reviews but it's on the list for future consideration.

I have exceeded the maximum number of daily requests for my account, what can I do

By default the maximum number of API requests per day is 100. Call limits will be raised to 10,000 once MenuMania has had a chance to evaluate your implementation. To request an evaluation, please send your MMWSID and an active URL or screenshots of your proposed use to [email protected].

My restaurant search returns an empty result set

Please verify that the search request is valid and that no errors are occurring. It is possible that no results will be returned if the search requested is for an area with few restaurants matching the search description.

Can I change what reviews are returned for an API query?

The MenuMania API returns the three most recent reviews of a restaurant, in order to ensure that your users are seeing the freshest content available. The MenuMania API cannot be configured to return more than 3 reviews, or to specify only certain reviews (e.g., only the 5-star reviews).


Branding and Legal Questions

Can I use MenuMania additional restaurant attributes (e.g. open hours)?

Yes. Restaurant open hours and other additional restaurant attribute information is available via the API.

What can I do with the API?

The following are examples of valid API uses, this is not a definitive list of valid uses but it should help give some context to legitimate MenuMania API uses.

You may:

  • Use MenuMania restaurant data to provide users of your website or application with detailed restaurant information regarding a particular location. For example, you might run a hotel and would like to list the top nearby restaurants on your site.
  • Use MenuMania restaurant data to highlight a restaurant' current rating and display some of the most relevant reviews for that restaurant.

You may not:

  • Cache, store, analyze or otherwise use MenuMania content except for real-time consumer-driven use.
  • Utilize MenuMania content without proper attribution and branding, including links back to MenuMania and indications whenever MenuMania content is being used. Please see Section 4 of the MenuMania API Terms of Use and our Display Requirements for more information.
