15 Reviews for 3 Cows Bar & Restaurant
Birthday celebration group of 14. All at one table nicely set out. Drinks came out reasonably quickly but a long, long wait for our food. Reasonable choice, large meals, but quantity of lettuce overdone for some choices. Toilets clean and well serviced. Overall except for slow service good place for a meal.

As first time visitors we were impressed with just about everything the 3 Cows had to offer. The menu was mouth wateringly diverse, the service both welcoming and efficient and the food sublime. Huge, huge meals however, so don’t eat lunch before you go.!! The waitresses were very friendly and efficient. One wee growl, asked for no mushrooms as allergic, but unfortunately they were on the plate. Situation was remedied quickly by waitress with effusive apologies, so harm done.
We will definitely try this place again. Support the locals.!!

A large amount of food on ya plate. Steak was horrible however staff were really good. Smell of cleaning products was overwhelming Don’t think I’d go back again.

Three of us ordered the most expensive stakes and expected them to be ok two out of them were defrosted in the microwave as the meat was cooked well done on the out side and not cooked in the middle we had to wait for over an hour took the meal back to complain and the chef would not even come to the front desk.
The poor staff that is all I can say.

My favourite restaurant by far! Take no notice of the negative reviews. Would you really listen to someone who asks to see the “chief”?! As with any restaurant its hard to please everyone so just make the trip, enjoy the drive and experience it for yourself. What have you got to lose? (weight, if the foods a bit slow)
The selection is huge, the portions are huge and the food is tastier than Megan Fox in a bath-tub full of custard. Not too far from Christchurch and ITS STILL STANDING (those from Christchurch will appreciate this more than others) Enjoy.

Went to the 3 cows for a 40th birthday, there were 24 attending and they struggled to accommodate us and had us sitting at 3 tables which wasn’t ideal. Apart from a gluten free diet they struggled to accommodate “special diets”. One vegetarian lady had nothing on the menu to select from and they advised they could make anything vegetarian but her meal had traces of salmon on it. They then further upset this diner by not being able to make a soy coffee. The other two tables got there meals at the same time but they advised our table that our meals were another 10minutes away and that they weren’t use to catering for such a large group even though they had advanced warning we were going in. The final straw was when they turned the coffee machine off and started packing up around us. It would have been beneficial to there business and polite to us to advise us of this as I estimate they lost business as a result of doing this 45mins before we left. On the plus side the food was quite nice.

Having been to 3 Cows several times before I booked for 8 including out of town guests. I was embarassed by the incredibly slow service, having to wait just over an hour for our meals to arrive & the place was hardly half full. My uncles lamb salad was mainly lettuce with hardly anything else and not a great deal of lamb. Other meals were good but service left alot to be desired.

I use to go to this restaurant and really enjoy the food. The last three times I had terrible service and poor quality food. Last time the steak was so tough my partner and I could not eat it. I drew this to their attention and asked to talk to the chief. When eventually she did arrived basically neither her or her staff gave a dame. Simple requests like please no pepper were ignored as vegetables laden with pepper came out. The wait was so long it was unbelievable and the drinks tasted weak I will never frequent this restaurant again three strikes your out

Have been in three times, sadly walked out three times… smell of cleaning agent too strong – don’t know what it is but very off putting. Would be interested in how many people sit down and leave after 5 mins… food looked good though so if they can do something about the smell we will try again.

Always fantastic food and having gluten free is a big bonus. But, when dining there about a week ago, the very strong odour of what seemed to be either a cleaning product or air freshener was obvious to us even upon entering the restaurant and when we went out to the toilets it was very concentrated. It was a real distraction to the Chef’s beautiful meals. Also, despite there being very few patrons early on a Wednesday night, the young girls, though pleasant were very slow at both taking our orders and bringing our drinks.
I will be returning shortly for a lunch and am hoping not only for sufficient gluten free choices but that the exceptionally strong odour has gone.
No good cuisine should have to compete with that.

This place is great. I couldnt even count the number of times i have dined here, the meals are huge (especially for the price) the service is great and because we seem to have become regulars the staff treat us like old friends. The resturant is clean and you dont feel like youre crammed in ontop of the people next to you. Honestly, give this place a go. Once you do youll be back for more!!!

We have dined here three times in the last year, for special occasions. I have nothing but high praise for this restaurant, the menu offers a range of hard to choose delicious meals which I found reasonably priced. Presentation is fabulous, we will definitely go back. But don’t take my word for it, try it yourself, you won’t be disappointed, I promise!

As a first time visitor I was impressed with just about everything the 3 cows had to offer. The menu was mouth wateringly diverse, the service both welcoming and efficient and the food itself surpassed expectations (which were very high indeed!). The hard part of the evening was deciding what to order as it all sounded (and looked)so good. Gluten free options also made my day – highly recommend ‘Bad Boy Billy’ as a GF dessert that will have you going back for more. I for one will certainly be driving back up the road from Christchurch to this gem of a restaurant.
