8 Reviews for Sake Bar 601
The best Japanese food I ever had. I am Japanese and to be honest, I am sick of westernised “Japanese” food in most Japanese restaurants in Auckland. Staff provide amazing service and amazing food! They cook New Zealand indigence with Japanese heart.
Pricing is very cheap considering the professional service and quality of food they provide.
You just have to make reservations as the restaurant is quite small and get booked up pretty quickly!

Why have I taken so long to experience Sake Bar 601! What a gem, simply superb!! The small team of three instantly welcome you on arrival, and because we had booked, we enjoyed a delicious complimentary starter. The menu is interesting and while not huge, has more than enough selection. We shared the Tempura tofu wrapped in seaweed – yum!, I followed with the scrumptious Seafood Hot Pot and my girlfriend was delighted with her grilled salmon. The drinks list again is minimal, but more than adequate. Jump outside the square and enjoy an Imo Shochu or a Sake to make this fantastic dining experience even more traditional. The atmosphere is intimate, the service is spot on, the bathrooms (can only speak about the girls) are sparkling, the food is fresh and flavoursome and created right in front of you if you sit at the bar. Yum, Yum, Yum. Don’t hesitate, make a booking now!!!

This is a wee gem of a restaurant! The food is so fresh and lovingly prepared that you leave Sake Bar feeling like your body is thanking you for it! We keep coming back here time and again as we are always so impressed. If you make a booking they even give you a complimentary starter which comes beautifully presented in a lacquer box – a gorgeous touch. Thoroughly recommend.

Being a local I feel privileged to have the Sake Bar just around the corner- if I have decided too late and failed to book in time (the bookings fill up fast) I can be cheeky and ask for it to bring home! The tuna is a favorite and just melts in your mouth. The service here is fantastic and if we are taking the kids the staff are great, adding bands to the chop sticks to help make the experience wonderful for the little ones!

FANTASTIC!! that’s the best way to describe this quaint little place.
Run by lovely friendly Japanese folks, the service is superb, you can see your food being prepared in front of you as its a small restaurant with great atmosphere. I can honestly say this is the best Japanese I’ve eaten in Auckland. To top it their toilets are sparkling and extremely clean.
Well worth the trip! My Husband loved indulging in the sake too!
One tip, remember to book before you go!

Simply the best Japanese I have ever had. Every thing was marvelously fresh and expertly crafted. Shared a Nigirizushi platter and tempura prawns, which were divine (two weeks late I am still thinking about it)
Staff were extremely pleasant and efficient.
I cannot recommend enough (remember to book!)
