At Abalone Thai Restaurant we offer a very fine authentic Thai dining experience.
Our Thai waitresses are all dressed in authentic Thai restaurant uniforms.

Our menu is beyond the biggest in Christchurch and we have some real Kiwi flavour meats such as Paua (Abalone), Wild Pork (strip loin-Organic), Wild venison (tender loin-Organic), Ostrich, as well as all common meats.
We also have a popula entree of Crocodile Steak and other exciting dishes.

Owner Glen Clark says: “Without a doubt we’ve got some of the best quality meats in today’s market. I use strip loin wild pork, tenerloin wild venison, tender loin lamb, etc. It’s all the top grade meat, nice and tender not like rubber.

Something you don’t see in many restaurants is our 3 metre long saltwater aquarium its quiet a master piece, Nemo & Dory kids love it.

We have many functions happen here, we can join the tables together in a line for more than 30pp or up to 70pp full house.

Dine-in and try some of the best wines from New Zealand, Australia, France, Spain and Italy.

We had a takeaway, very dissapointing to say the least.
The Pad Thai was the worst I have ever had, not even rice noodles.It was just egg noodles mixed with a bit of chicken, a few bean sprouts and chilli sauce with a few bits of peanuts.
The curry was what we could make at home , $40 for the combo.
Shame as the owners review said one of the best .would not return.

Takeaways tonight, they were pretty good. The egg fried rice had nice flavours, but the frozen veges – diced carrots etc seem a bit low grade. Not much egg which was disappointing. Delicious fat prawns were the star of this dish. Not too greasy and not too salty either, would get this dish again.
Pad Khing (chicken stir fry with ginger) was also yummy, delicious flavours. Quite light and the ginger flavour is fantastic.
Good prices for the meal too.

If that was true we would’nt be packed all the time would we. I’ve eaten out at alot of different places and know my restaurant is up there.

The food was really good and prompt which was good considering there was a group of 10 of us dining. Friendly serving staff although the lady that served us when we went to pay was not overly friendly

Tried the restaurant again recently and I have to say the food – particularly the wild pork and wild venison was superb. The menu is extensive and because its easy to read, with pics of some of the dishes, it encourages you to explore Thai cuisine. Service was good – food was great – and the new decor is looking good as well. I would rate this as the best Thai food in ChCh.

After waiting 45 minutes (not 15, as had been stated), we received our delicious smelling meal…notably before the poor customer beside me who’d been waiting over an hour. When we got it home it was less than average – we had the mussels and the thai beef salad. The other point to note is the signage saying they have venison and ostrich. Well not according to the person at front of house, who scanned the menu and said “oh we musn’t be doing that anymore”. Overall a very disappointing experience and a restuarant we would highly UNrecommend.

Sadly enough it was in change of hands at the time, 45 mins, well must of been full and had only one chef cooking, and our menu is the most intence out there. Do you own a restaurant close by ?

amazing Thai food, authentic and delicious both dining in where service is excellent and for takeaway we’ve bee back 3 times since trying it the first time a few weeks ago!

Excellent range of meat. I had the wild pork and my partner the wild venison which was cooked to perfection with a lovely range of thai spices. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the staff are friendly and efficient and well presented.
Would highly recommend this restaurant for a wonderful night out!

Excellent service, fast food turn around, surprising lunch special $9 gets you a selected main, soup and wontons all authentic and fresh tasting, will definitely recommend.
