Always a favorite with us. Relaxed atmosphere and good food make this an enjoyable night out. Will be back with a group soon.

This place is absolutely dreadful. The food is woeful and the service extremely poor. What an embarrassment. I took my wife there to celebrate her birthday. Right from the beginning I had concerns when I ordered a fresh orange juice and got concentrate – it is so obvious!

The garlic bruschetta was a poor attempt using sliced French Baguette, poorly presented and some of the worst garlic bread I’ve had.

The gnocchi was far from appertising,and would have seemed fresher from the supermarket. I left half the plate (which was very small anyway)

The pizza was OK. Not great, and not bad.

The waiter cleared our table before my wife had finished eating her pizza which I find highly rude.

These guys have no idea. This is far from authentic fresh Italian cooking. There was no love in this food – it was just prepared as a chore and plonked on a plate. Disgraceful!

We didn’t even try the dessert menu – the supermarket deep freeze would be far more appealing judging by the starters and mains.

I will avoid this place like the plague. Very disappointing as one wants to enjoy special occasions. I’m amazed that some people have rated this place so high, but then again most people from Wanganui don’t have anything to compare to. I see that there is another review with similar opinions to mine.

If you have any expectations over Italian food, do not go to Al Ponte. What a waste of a great location by the river. It could be so much more!

Lovely warm atmosphere, authentic italian pizzas (the rest of the food was also good, simple but tasty), my waitress on the night was incredibly friendly and accomodating, great music, which I found out later was from the owner/chef, overall my husband and I had a very pleasant evening, we will be back with friends in tow.

This is an awful place. We have tried to support it a number of times for Whanganui but it has never got passed the teething stage. Disorganised and over-priced with an owner and staff who are rude, totally lacking in hospitality or good sense. Pizzas are dreadful. Nothing to recommend this place – Al Period!
