We go to The Albany Restaurant & Bar most weeks. The staff are really friendly, the service is fantastic and the food is great value for money. Well worth a visit. I know you can’t please everybody, but when people have great service they don’t usually put a good review on, they only post when they are not happy, so I guess by the amount of people that go to The Albany it should speak for itself.

The worst customer service I have ever experienced! Turned up a couple of days ago for lunch with hubby and two hungry kids. After waiting ages for someone to come and take our order and being ignored several times (not even a busy day), finally had to go to the bar and order our own food and drinks. No apology, just an excuse about the waitress being “flat out” as she was on her own. Drinks came out to us fairly quickly, but we then waited approximately another 40 minutes and still no food. No-one came to the table to apologise for the delay or to offer us another drink (not even water). My husband then went to enquire how much longer the food was going to take and was told approximately another six minutes. Fifteen minutes later the food had still not arrived. By this time we had been there for over an hour. My husband went back to the bar for a third time and was shortly followed by someone with one plate of (cold) food – but no cutlery. We then waited another five minutes for cutlery to arrive. Two minutes later two other plates of (semi-warm) food turned up – but still no pancakes for my daughter. After having nearly finished our meals, my husband then went back to the bar (fourth visit) and brought back the pancakes himself and when I say pancakes, I use the term loosely. What was on the plate were three stone-cold, half-cooked pieces of batter, covered in what looked like milk, but was actually melted ice-cream – this plate must have been sitting somewhere for at least ten minutes. My daughter was so hungry we let her eat it, as there was no time to complain (we had already phoned and moved an after-lunch appointment) and risk waiting God knows how long for another plate to turn up.

When we paid (for three meals, as we refused to pay for the “pancakes”) still no apology was forthcoming – just a grunt from the person taking the money about how busy they were.

Needless to say, we woMoren’t be returning.

Nice to have the indoor outdoor eating options and fire here over the cooler months is always so inviting. Typical pub food, decent quantities for price. Had full meals, salads, bar food and brunch over a period of time. Mostly OK but honestly chef you need to learn how to cook poached eggs. Eggs benedict plentiful with 3 YES 3 eggs, but when they are like bullets it takes away the pleasure from a good dish. (Not just a once off, sorry) Most of the staff are really friendly and helpful but if you catch a couple of them on a bad hair day mmmm, makes you feel very unwelcome and awkward. But most of them are cool and really hard working. Thanks to those of you.

Weekend brunch with a deal voucher. What a disappointment – cold plates and the first time we have had cold bacon and eggs! Generous portions, a venue with potential – let down by the basics – not serving a hot meal. Service staff were turning people away as others like us booked in with deal vouchers. Won’t be returning.
