“disappointing” is the first that comes to my mind
they had changed the menu but didn’t think of updating their web page for months, so what had sounded so delicious on line I couldn’t order anymore – first disappointment
then the portions were really tiny and we was as hungry afterwards as I had been before. My gnocchi were drenched in sauce and overcooked and in total 6 pieces but I had to pay $26 for that!!!!!!
my partners pork belly with vege and mash was tiny as well (3 pieces of pork, 3 tiny scallops, 3 pieces broccoli and little plop of mash – literally!!! for more than $30!)

the waitress was lovely though and the service really good but the food is the reason I can say I will never go back and don’t recommend going there at all
I thought it was just trying to be a really fancy place but ended up really disappointing!

I Went To Alibi On A Sunday Night For Coffee & Dessert With A Date. It Was Nice & Quite & We Got To Sit Next To The Lovely Fire Place.
I Agree With Some Of The Other Reviews Though That The Staff Are A Bit Pushy & Come To The Table To Offer/Push More Stuff Onto You.
But Over All The Food & Drinks Were Fantastic & I Will Be Back Just Keep The Waitresses At Bay Until I Call Them Hahaha

Went to Alibi for lunch on a weekday. The staff member we worked with was tidy & friendly. I ordered the lamb steak which was rare & gristly (what’s the default? I would have thought it would be something a little less Twilight inspired) but everything else was nice: the potato & sauce. A little pricey for $20 as it was a small portion. Overall a pretty nice place though, great location, & I’m sure my meal was the exception to the rule.

We have dined at Alibi three times in the last three weeks. The service has always good and the staff are friendly (even when trying to sell you more drinks – understandably they are just doing their jobs)

The food is consistant. Nothing startling but very good for bar/cafe fare.

All in all, the prices are realistic for what is being served.

We will continue to go back for lunch.

Great location/spot especially when wanting to have a quick bite to eat for lunch.

Well done Alibi.

Fantastic food and the chef even gave some tasters free of charge! The calamari lunch is divine.

My wife and I have been here a few times and the meals are just O.K. Not any different from the other bars/restaurants in the Octogon.
The meals seem to be getting smaller and smaller each time. The waitress was friendly but seemed to be a bit pushy in trying to sell us more which made our dining experience slightly uncomfortable.

The staff members seemed to be oblivious to the fact that we could hear them discussing their weekends and we were not interested in hearing about their antics.

We won’t be rushing to go back any time soon.

Hi There I am sad to hear you have not had a good experience with us at Alibi recently. We have been working hard to make it a great bar and restaurant to visit either for a great meal, or a casual drink or anything in between. We don’t get it right every time,…    More »

I went to alibi on Thursday night. Unusually i was greeted at the door, seated and introduced to the waitress. I had the pork, which i could not fault, cooked and tasted beautiful. I will be back!

I Love alibi, i go here regularly and will keep doing so, the staff are by far the friendliest in Dunedin and the menu is superb, the only thing they don’t have is the late evening sun!

We recently had a graduation function at Alibi and were extremely disappointed by the service and food.

Firstly the area where we booked was not reserved for us and it was such a big hassle for them to relocate us to our promised spot.

I had the steak for about $30 and it was pretty good despite being slighty small for my liking. The Sole and the Lamb which some of my friends had looked pretty awful – one of my them didn’t even eat a quarter of their meal and weren’t even asked about it. They asked if they could only pay half price and Alibi refused.

They were also extremely rude in getting us to leave as well as servicing all the drinking tenants before the dining guests. I don’t recommend eating here on a Friday or Saturday night to anyone.

as a fellow restauranter I believe the owners of Alibi are getting it rite, the team there always look to apply effort whilst not always the most knowledgeable they really do make an effort…. the food is very simular in most restaurants now days and i will certinally be going back to Alibi for its team and they way they make you feel

Wow, real inconsistency here in the reviews!

Our experience was really great. The food is pricey enough, but the quality was really great, and the table staff were attentive and friendly.

Only downside from our experience was that the bar staff were pretty frosty “i’m too cool for you” sort of attitude, but once we were seated, we didn’t have to deal with them anyway :)

After dining at Alibi last night I felt a review was in order, We were out celebrating graduation so had a reasonable size party, including 2 kids. Were do I start the music was so loud you had to shout to be heard. However the positive of that is you aren’t overheard by surrounding tables, the waiter was friendly and efficient but I still don’t know his name. The kids menu didn’t exist but were offered chicken and chips or fish in chips. We opted for the chicken and I think a KFC burger would of arrived with more chicken in it. Adult meals were ordered off a piece of paper straight out of the printer, with a small amount of choice. Service was fast even though they were busy. Our meals arrived and was basically a bit of meat on a plate. My chicken dish did come with a couple of sliced potatoes but were only just warm and no more. No greenery was to be seen anywhere except for the 2 Cesar salads that had been ordered for a main. However dessert menu was divine and plan to go back another night just for dessert.

Popped into alibi the other night for a bite to eat, the place has a great buzz and the staff seemed to genuinely enjoy themselves. I was looked after by a lovely lady, nice and friendly and very attentive. I had the chicken for dinner which was tender and very tasty, and a few heineken’s on tap. Thoroughly enjoyed

I recently visited Dunedin on business and was attracted by the buzzing atmosphere of Alibi.

Unfortunately, the food that was served was overpriced and absolutely ghastly. Not only was it overcooked but the majority of the salad appeared to be rotten.

In addition to this the waiting staff were extremely rude, and were unable to comprehend that I may be slightly agitated after having waited 30 minutes for an entree.

Personally I would never visit Alibi again especially since there are so many amazing restaurant within a block of the dissapointing establishment.

had an awesome breakfast here one weekend and then ordered the exact same meal a week later and it was the worst breakfast i have ever had. the hollandaise tasted like it was straight from the catering spread tub. We complained and the girl just apologised and said it was because it was a different chef from last week. She did not offer anything else

Went here for lunch the other day and they had just changed their lunchtime menu. My friend, who had ordered the Caesar Salad for lunch on previous occasions, did so again. But it came out as a poached egg on a few leaves of lettuce with tiny scraps of bacon and some croutons. For $16!! She complained as her previous experiences of the dish had been much better, and she felt other people may also complain. She was offered complimentary fries, but declined.

I had a cauliflower soup which was delicious. Although I asked for the waitress to bring me butter for my bread, but she never did. Had to ask another waitress about 20 minutes later, and she was lovely and brought it over right away. Although by that stage my soup was tepid.

Not a great experience.

My husband and I went here for dinner once night and were very impressed with this restaurant. Meals were really great and such a nice atmosphere. It was very busy the night we went, there was a show on at the Regent next door bringing a lot of people in for drinks and meals. This didn’t stress the waitresses or waiters out, they were still cheerful and professional and they are a credit to this place!

Wednesday 16 July visited Alibi, walk in the door and waited some time to served. Restaurant was not that busy, ordered our meals approx 8pm, was served drinks, after 45Min’s asked waitress how long the meals would be, she went to find out and return approx 5Min’s later with the meals. Meals were excellent however the wait of 45Min’s was too long. Slow service brings good meals down to an average dining experience

I recently dined at alibi and was quite surprised at the experience i had, firstly being greeted at the door was unexpected then the friendly smile from the barman to the professional yet not robotic waitress had me impressed before the food had even got to me, i had blue cod with the potato of the day whilst my company had the pasta, the cod melted in my mouth and the pasta had a perfect balanced taste, an experience that begs me to return as soon as possible.
