We ate here on a lazy Sunday for lunch. The menu was fantastic and everyone in our group of 6 loved their meals. No complaints at all. Myself and my partner had the shared seafood platter (which was huge!), most others in the group had burgers and all rated them on a par with Fergburger in Queenstown. If that’s not a high recommendation, then I don’t know what is.

Alivate opened in June 2011. Four of us dined there last night – a cold winter evening. It was very warm and the staff were most welcoming. The refurbished interior is a vast improvement on the Reef (as it was previously called) and the menu offers plenty of variety. The steaks and venison were tender, with some wickedly rich desserts on offer for those who had room! Great wine selection. Like most Wanaka restaurants, its not cheap, but it is good value and well worth a visit.
