The rating actually lies between very good and average. I recommend their mussels with the special Turkish flavored sauce that is tasty spicy. Also recommend the Greek Pizza with quite a few pieces of salmon and garlic, which is a bit addictive.
The biggest negative point, for me, is the weakness of their wine choice. When the dishes quite spicy, the wine should be fairly strong or aromatic enough to match the food. But their wine list is so neutral just like other kiwi food cafes.
They have a drink or a special(good deal) food of the day. That seems quite attractive. A little more think out plan of the interior would make a better range of customers.

We went there for dinner. It’s a nice cozy place in the heart of the city. Interior is brilliant filled with art work etc.
Eye fillet with 2 prawns was just perfect!
Excellent food. Wide menu, plenty choices. Fast service. Very friendly staff. They have live music Fri, Sat nights. Overall experience was amazing!

The food and service is always good, plus their frequent specials are great value.
I recommend the Angus rump steak if they have it available.
This is a place I like to return to.

A favourite when in the city. Have been here multiple times, once for breakfast and too many times to remember for dinner.
The euro breakfast is absolutely amazing as well as their coffees. As for dinner, anything containing lamb is a must!

A once in a lifetime experience! tempted in by the specials menu and the fact that it was not overcrowded for a lunchtime, our family [2 adults, 2 children] ordered including an item off the ‘express menu’ and a burger. 20 minutes later, having seen only three plates of food appear out of the kitchen in total and our patience starting to fray, remember this was lunchtime and it was quite empty, the waitress returned to say they had no burgers left but could cook a chicken breast in 3 minutes instead. No apologies offered or explanation as to why they had taken so long to tell us this ! Another wait and The food finally arrived in installments starting after 30 mins , again no apologies and when we pointed out one item was an express item the waitress seemed to dispute this before she walked off. Sorry but we will never ever go back, a very poor disinterested service, and overall poor experience. Service 0/10 food quality 5/10 but by then the damage had been done. Hopefully evenings are better.

My friend and me eat out in cafes quite regular basis to socialize, chitchat…….. We pick the cafes with palatable food being served by friendly, cheerful and pleasant staff. After a long time we have visited Alp Ice Cafe on High Street Auckland central. Last time we have visited I can’t remember what we eat or drink, but I remember cheerful staff so we have returned again. Guess what we have found? Cheerful, lovely staff, palatable food, good wine selection from New Zealand – Australia and Europe. So I say thank you to Alp Ice Café staff being with high spirit and carry on the good work.

French Toast is tasty and a decent price. Good portions. Coffee was also good. Staff have been pleasant on both visits. Variety on the brunch menu is great, even though I’ve only tried the French Toast!
A good spot for breakfast/brunch in the city.

We went to the Greek night at Alp Ice Cafe with my family for my husbands birthday. We had a great experience and the quality of food was great – real value for money.
What brought us into the restaurant originally was the live Greek band a truly amazing experience and the plate smashing !!!!! we never heard music like that before. An entertaining experience! and walking distance We will be back
highly recommended.

Visiting Auckland recently, we were looking for a reasonably price restaurant (for lunch) – but not a chain store or takeaway.
we had checked out the nearly Chancery Lane, with its larger chain restaurants but our first impressions were that the food would be overpriced and average.
We found ALP ICE just down the road on high street.
Most impressed by the lunch menu, variety – & the prices were great – and the food more than matched my expectations : )
Friendly staff.
we enjoyed it so much, we returned 2 days later, and were equally impressed.
I recommend the Chicken Souvlaki, scallops, pizza’s…(really everything we tried was great!).
On leaving, we also purchased homemade cakes & and Turkish delight – yum!
I will be returning here on my next trip to Auckland.

The indoor outdoor decor was attractive and welcoming. The front of house owner was very friendly and the pizza we had was really tasty with a crisp light base that melted in your mouth. The atmosphere is bright and cheery and there is good space between tables / booths inside and out (smart cane furniture) so you dont feel crowded. There was plenty on the varied menu we could have had at a reasonable price and we look forward to going back and trying it out for dinner! The coffee is delicious too.

We discovered Alp Ice last Sunday and were pleased to once again be able to access the relaxed, friendly atmosphere and great food & coffee that we used to enjoy at Zigana Cafe in Devonport for many years. Very good value for money and a wonderful selection of pizzas with Mediterranean style flavours to suit all tastes. Not sure about the significence of the name Alp Ice, but now we have found it we’ll certainly be back.
