I really like this cafe, I do not drink coffee so cannot comment on the coffee, my husband does love the coffee here.
I always order eggs benedict which is really good, but I always feel that it needs a bit extra hollandaise. The eggs benedict comes with two hash browns and from memory two pieces english muffin (or bread, don’t remember now), and I think that it had maybe just 2 tbspns extra hollandaise it would be 100%
I would recommend this cafe, although we went once on a sunday about 12 and they were very busy, so the food did take a while, but we didn’t mind because the waitress did inform us when we ordered our food so we expected it. Good communication, there is nothing worse than when the wait staff knows that your food is going to take quite a while and does not inform you.
So I would recommend Altura just maybe as for a little bit more hollandaise when ordering eggs benedict

Was just there for a lunch and wasn’t impressed at all. The chicken-curry-pasta was just greasy and the chicken’s consistency and taste was more like a hot dog sausage. In the other vegetable pasta salad I had some avocado skin which is not a huge deal but also not very appealing. Finally, I wasn’t too impressed seeing staff smoke at the back door while I was leaving.

Best coffee and best eggs benedict on the north shore. I have been a regular here for 2 years and have always experienced exceptional, friendly service and delicious food that is extremely well priced – with large sized portions. I recommend this cafe to everyone – the staff remember your face and are warm and welcoming, and the food is always at a high standard.
This cafe is a brilliant find. We were very impressed with our recent breakfast at Altura. The coffee was magnificent and the Eggs Benedict were heaven. To read more about our visit read http://celestereviews….

Have been a regular for years, but no longer, the coffee is still ok, but its not enough to drag me back anymore. The menu is so static and unvaried, and the service has just gone down. The last couple of times I have been in I have left with the feeling that I was just in the way of the staff’s socializing, so no, over it.

Boring menu, food and service, but the coffee beans in the roaster are good to watch. 2 stars for the roaster

Nice atmosphere and staff.
This is the one place i have never had a problem with the food of the coffees. Price of food about average. Can get busy at times and can pay to make a reservation if a large party.
Overall cannot think of one negative comment

Nice setting and friendly staff. The corn fritters were excellent as was the coffee. I took one star off because my partner’s eggs benedict was a little overcooked.

Great cosy place for lunch and all day breakfast. The aroma of roasting coffee makes you want to stay longer. Freshly brewed coffee always.
Mango smoothie is also very nice to chill.
Highly recommend this place for a late Sunday brunch.

If you need a late lunch in Albany, Altura will be open, the coffee and service will be, as usual, excellent but best of all the leftovers from the regular lunch time will be very reasonably priced.

This is one of my favourite places to go for brunch. Absoluely love their eggs benedict. Coffee is always wonderful. Is on our old favourites list now.

My husband and I went to Altura when I was heavily pregnant. My partner ordered a chicken burger and after a couple of mouthfulls discovered the chicken was pink in the middle. We informed the waitress who took it back to be recooked. We were still charged full price for our meal and the waitress was the only person to apologise. 2 days later my husband had Campala Bacta and subsequently missed the birth of his child AND wasn’t able to visit us in hospital. He was seriously ill for 3 weeks. On informing Altura we still did not receive any apology. Would not recommend this cafe in the slightest.

The BEST coffee I have had so far in NZ, the staff are absolutely fantastic, we visited Altura three times and by our fourth visit they asked if we wanted “the usual”, great coffee, great staff, take some beans home for yourself too!!
