Had to ask for the menu ourselves wasn’t even given it.. Got told that our meal would we fifteen minutes yet it didn’t come till about thirty five to fourty minutes have to say my meal the chicken BBQ sauce salad was delicious but my friend Olivia whet tons carbonara was very runny and tasteless we aren’t happy thanks for the bad service!

Used to come here a lot as always felt they catered well for larger parties but after my experience 2 weeks ago i will never return and will tell others the same. Service was poor we had about 3 different people serving us had to ask for water and wine glasses. Waiter was rude and short with us every time we asked a question. Upon ordering we were told that they had run out of fettuccine pasta so we requested Penne but were served Spaghetti.
The fresh fish of the day was dry and smelt bad definitely not fresh.
After complaining to the manager we were told that their head chef was away and they had new people etc etc .. not our problem. I think that such a prime spot deserves a much more impressive restaurant!

Have been to this restaurant on two occasions, both have been very average.

On both occasions the food was poor, once resulting in a servre case of stomach colic.

The service was attrocious with the owner ” Mike” being very aggresive towards my wife and our party. He’s a stroppy Italian.

I have heard that “Mike” is on holiday for a couple of years
( at Her Majesty’s pleasure) so I look forward to the standards “improving”.

Will never eat here again based on service received 11/11/11 and the rude, dismissive, uneducated (in hospitality customerservice) Manager. Beyond Disgusted.
Waiter: “Oh yeah, we’re out of the special on Steak.”
Us: Really ? Almost every motel in Mount sold out for FOMA conference and your sold out of your special board steak on Friday night at 7.45pm ? Bad ordering huh. So the Cappo, how many prawns with that ?
Waiter: “Three”
Dinner for 2. Entree Mussels and Main Steak for both of us please, both Med Rare and another beer thanks. 15 minutes later had flag down and to ask different waitress where the beverage was. She couldn’t speak english, was slightly confused, but we got there in the end.
1 Entree arrived 10 minutes before the other. Without a fingerbowl or plate to dispose of shells onto. Items requested. The the 2nd Entree arrived. Same problem, they obviously didn’t learn from the first order.
Mains arrived. Manager within first bite came out “is everything ok” “seems to be so far” was the response. Once plate pulled apart, noticable difference in size of his portion of steak to mine. Only two prawns. After spending five minutes with my hand in the air trying to wave down ANY waiter I could (no seriously, I was getting cramp!) the only explanation the (yet another) waiter gave us was “uh sorry, I don’t know why they’re smaller”. This turned out to be our saving grace actually, as his steak (larger) was Blue (Raw) nowhere near Med Rare. Unable to actually eat. So he tucked into mine while we waited again for another waiter to appear.. they finally did at the end of the meal. We advised him we were not happy with Rare meat and his reply was ‘shall i get the chef to recook this’ – this was 9pm, beyond hungry we said “no thanks we’re leaving”.
When I queried our worst ever dining experience with the manager she said “you ate one steak and you sliced into the other, therefore I don’t see you problem, and you need to pay all of your bill in full” when asked why the size difference in steak she advise “they all weighed” when asked about the wait for entrees she just didn’t have a resonse that wasn’t trying to yell at me and tell me to pay the bill.
Easy fix lady would have been to say “sorry about that, we’ll attempt to fix next time, have a beer for free on us” but NO she continued to be extremely rude, disrespectful and ungrateful. Distroying any reputation that Mike had built up for that place !

Dont waste your money here!!! I have eaten here a few times over the past couple of years for various occasions….. If you don’t have their 2 for 1 vouchers to use on a Sun-Wed its really expensive for what you get. The food portion sizes have gotten smaller each time I go there. I had a huge piece of broken mussel in my chowder last time and a smashed mussel (which if anyone knows should not be eaten). After mentioning this to the waitress, a few minutes later my conversation with my dining partner was rudely interrupted by the manager who stated there is nothing wrong with them, grunted a few more words and walked away. Very very rude person… and its not the first time I’ve experienced his rudeness!!!!!

The time before last my partner & I received our mains & then our entrees were delivered a few seconds after??? Don’t know about anyone else but I don’t think that’s the way you deliver meals??

Overall I give full credit to the kitchen. they slave there guts out, however this restaurant is let down by its over priced food, small portion sizes & extremely bad and rude service by mainly 1 male manager in particular!!!

Why this place hasn’t shut down before now is beyond me!!!

And 1 tip… get rid of those stupid vege bowls you receive to share and put the veg on the dam plate!!!!

Went to Amphora on 26th July. The six of us were seated seated promptly. We were seated at 6pm and meals arrived about 20 minutes after ordering. We all agreed that the entrees and mains were well presented and very enjoyable Only grizzle was that the plates were cold. All in all the meals were good value especially with vouchers and we would go again. We were out by approx 7.45.

Booked a table for 6pm and were still waiting for our mains at 8pm. The service was friendly, but we had a very long wait, I felt it was overpriced for what we got, and when asked if they have a kids menu we were offered smaller portions of the mains for the same price. I dont know if this is what you would call normal, but its the only time in my life I have had to pay around $30.00 for my 8year old sons meal.I wont be going back there.

Had booked a table for 10 for a birthday great service to start with but then she left & it went downhill from there. Entree was ok but pricy for the 5 wee scallops I got. Mains came out about 5 minutes after last person had eaten entree. Except mine which they had forgotten and had to cook, it was calamari and it was VERY nice, but most had finished eating while I was just starting. Medium rare steak was welldone but food in general was ok but wouldn’t pay the price they were asking for it. Service was VERY bad though reaching across people to hand food across table rather than walk around. Couldn’t get anyone to take a drinks order & had to go up and get ourselves and pay seperately for them up there. Never got offered dessert or tea/coffee, basically once our plates were taken (pet hate taking up plates when people still eating)we didn’t see a waiter/waitress again. Another comment perhaps waitress/waiter could wear a uniform or a shirt with logo on so they could be recognised, as they were wearing jandels, shorts/jeans & tank tops and blended in with the holidaymakers. All in all glad we had good company that made the evening and won’t be going back there though…

Was not impressed with this restaurant.
Menu at the entrance states all mains are served with vegetables. Two our mains in our group didn’t receive vegetables. This was not told to us by waitresses prior to ordering and we were requested to pay for these.
1 main was handed back as this was sub standard.
Management was very rude when confronted with a discussion about the lack of vegetables with the mains.
Outside the waitress was very apologetic about our dining experience.

Have had meals at Amphora earlier in the year and they were medioca but went last week and not good. Son had spag carbonara and after picking out all the bacon rind and fat there wasn’t a lot of actual bacon in the dish a greasy meal. When asked why there was rind in the meal the answer back from the kitchen was that the bacon had looked so good the chef thought he would put the rind in . Good bacon does not need rind left on!!
Husbands fish curled up and swimming in oil. By the time we left the restaurant our clothes stunk of kitchen smells. Tired looking restaurant Will give it a miss in the future

Having eaten at Amphora over 50 times in 2007 2008 I want about 7 months ago and the potatoes were stone cold and terrible. When paying the bill and telling the owner he just shrugged it off.So i went back again to try again last month but i dont know how the food was as after being booking a table by phone and being seated by a left head nod by the owner We waited 40 minutes But no one came to even give us a menu.
Needless to say The short walk up to Volantis was well worth it as the food ,service and ambiance was superb!

Lovely meals and decor, and lovely staff. However one of the staff made the comment ‘Why did you seat them there….’ as we had been seated in one of the flash booths…and we had a child…I would go back there anyway – definatly a good place for a lovely meal…

Have been there 6/7 times over past 3 months always taking advantage of their magnificent 2 for 1 meal discounts available on Sundays,Mondays and Tuesdays. Meals are large and of excellent quality. No corkage! Easily the best value for money restaurant around anywhere.

Rating this as only poor is an understatement.

Although the menu looks great and there is a good range of food, I was (and I’m sure many people have been) put off by the staff’s behaviour. Especially one waitress in particular, who took all the orders. Her dress code and hair upkeep was very off-putting, and she was extremely rude and intimidating to her other workers/staff as well as even some customers dining there! I was horrified by the way she acted and treated diners. The kitchen staff looked utterly stressed and never looked happy, despite the bar (which showed all of the kitchen) being right in full view of diners.
I strongly suggest to all those who enjoy a pleasant meal out, to never -ever- come here.

Have been to Amphora many times and always good but went this week and the food was appalling – veggies not cooked, didn’t arrive with the meal, 2 vegetarian main courses were terrible too. Left still hungry and sadly will not be going back again: no way!

Have been a few times now and it is always very good. I always have to get their Mississippi mud cake for dessert, it’s the best!
