Staff Xmas Lunch held 16 December 2011 for 16 people.
Great selection, we were presented with either the lunch menu or the full dinner menu. All 16 opted for selections of breads, entrees, mains and deserts from the dinner menu.
Drinks were kept topped up, non alcoholic and alcoholic selection was very good, the waiter advised us along the way where things were at (being such a large group, and a xmas lunch, it was nice to be asked – shall we let you settle and have a few drinks first then kick on with your breads and entrees ?)
Food was very very good, only one meal was “later” than the others with about 40 dishes in total being served !
Thanks for the great experience, I will definately be back.

We went to amphora this evening after being given a $50 gift voucher and had a lovely meal. We took our 2 year old daughter and were the first people there for an early dinner. Despite not having a booking we were seated and served quickly. The staff were very pleasant and accommodating- they were happy to tweak the menu to cater to a toddlers tastes, and her meal was perfect. The grown ups meals were perfectly cooked and delicious and came with all the trimmings so were reasonably priced.
We popped in for a late night snack before heading home from The Strand on a Friday evening.
We ordered the ‘chefs special’ vegetarian pizza to share (with home made base).
Very poor and very small for $20+, base undercooked and basically a limp salad dumped on top of said base with a couple of olives (with stones!!) hidden in it.
needless to say we won’t be going back any time soon.

The mini mezze was shocking, 4 pieces of feta (standard yuk feta) and 5 olives along with stale garlic croutes. About 15 croutes to fill you up and not nicely presented. Oh and I forgot the blob of tomato sitting in the middle of the plate.
The tasting platter was a bad mess of what I can only describe as half hearted attempt at a Mediterranean style platter that frankly I could do better with my eyes closed.
Staff were friendly but all over the place, no one was assigned to a particular table and in the 1.5 hours we were there we had 4 different servers.
Friends that I were with have been going there for years and said that was the last time. It seems as if it has gone down hill as fast as an Olympic skier!!
Not recommended – don’t waste your hard earned cash!

Okay, the food here is great and there is good variety, but I was extremely put off by some of the staffs’ attitude. I could see many people arriving and standing there for way too long with no one coming to seat them or help them.
One waitress who took the orders treated the other staff with no respect whatsoever, never seemed happy doing her job and was dressed very tacky – inappropriate. Someone came up to her to question about the drinks and she literally huffed and walked away, getting someone else to see to that person.
The kitchen staff, whom we could see constantly from the bar (very open) were cursing at each other and arguing. I understand it must get a little stressful whilst working in a kitchen in a hurry, but to be visible to all the diners isn’t a good look.
I did not enjoy my experience here and despite the nice food, I will not come back here ever again.

We booked in us a group for a work function. We were all crammed into one table, the entree’s took over an hour to come out meaning we werent eating our dessert till 10.30 when our booking was for 7.30. Our waitress at the table was pleasant but the other staff were rude and unprofessional.
Will not be going back.
Disappointed.

We went searching for a meal after 10.30pm one night after being at a school function! Every cafe down the Strand we went to was closing or closed! It was a Saturday night! Hungrily in search of food and not giving in to McDonalds we came across Amphora Cafe. It was 11.00pm by then, the cafe was full of people having their christmas functions, but the waitress happily escorted us to a table and provided a menu! The menu was substantive, the food was freshly cooked and the waitresses service was excellent! The cafe kitchen doesn’t close till 11.30pm! We went away extremely fulfilled!
