Simply put, the worst lunch I’ve ever had – ever. Not even worth the one star. Either the people who wrote about this place own or work there or it’s the first time they have ever eaten out. That or they were threatened to be beat up by the butch woman who worked there.
Normally, I guess I pick places a bit better. In Bluff, there honestly isn’t much of a choice. I had higher hopes given we were the only people in the cafe however. To the point,
We ordered the seafood soup. Molasses thick. Weird concoction. Definitely laden with something thick and it wasn’t seafood. I also ordered the scallop and shrimp meal. Hard to believe a restaurant along the wharf would serve the smallest baby shrimp, some semblance of an old shredded scallop and some weird gel that tasted like and had the color of salmon, but wasn’t – all for $22 bucks — for lunch! The total for lunch was around $77 bucks (including 4 beers). I don’t mind paying for quality. This lunch however was anything but.
Eat in Stewart Island. The Stewart Island Sea Hotel and/or Stewart Island Lodge are worth the wait. Only get a beer at the Anchorage bar next door *(if anything) as that may be the only item the chef and staff can’t screw up. Service wasn’t particularly friendly either. When I asked for ketchup, the individual’s response was “why?” Hello, French Fries? Even that was watered down and tasted off. Overall, a miserable experience, enough so for me to remember it days later only to now write about it.
In ending, when I stood at the counter (again, one of 2 total customers in the joint, the other who was with me) to pay my bill, I had to wait a few minutes for the person to get off her lazy ass to take payment. She was within 10 feet of me, completely into her own thing. She should be fired if employed or shut down if she owns the place.
