The name suggest otherwise, but this is a chinese resturant.

Went here on a Saturday night with a bunch of family friends.

Brought our own wine/champange etc.. Waiter helped us open the bottle but put the corks back in and it popped out, shooted to the ceiling and landed in a bowl of soy sauce which sprayed everyone.

Ordered a number and variety of dishes, however I thought it was a bit on the salty side. One of the dishes ordered was a roast duck – very disappointing as there was hardly any meat on the duck (mainly bones aka the neck area)

Had to ask for the empty plates to be taken away (usually at other places waiters would use their initiative to take empty plates away)

Best you try the place out for yourself, but I would not return, unless I have been invited by someone to go there.

Hi there, I went to yum cha with my boyfriend last Saturday to try it out at Andrews Restaurant. I wanted mango pudding and coconut milk on top. I was told by the waiter (hands on hips) they don’t put coconut milk on top of the mango! Nothing is put on top! I thought ‘what the!?’. From my experience in Wellington yum cha places, they put coconut milk on top and even in Hong Kong yum cha places do. So I let it go. But the waiter came back to our table soon after and this time I saw a can of cream! Its the instant cream in a can! So I got a bowl of mango pudding and the waiter put a small dollop of cream on the top centre of the mango pudding. I smiled and let out a big laugh afterwards. How cheap is cheap! I expected the cream to be piled on! My boyfriend could have done better! Overall, yum cha and service was good, table and cuttlery was clean and seating was comfortable. But they still got some learning to do!

Definitely a great place to eat Yum Cha. We have always gone into Wellington to get Yum Cha, but since finding Andrew’s we don’t need to. Great selection, dimsum are very nice and their xiao long bao is awesome. The service is good, all the staff are friendly, and respond quickly to any requests we have. Restaurant is clean and tidy and far roomier than some of the yum cha restaurants in Wellington. A must do for Yum cha fans!

Went there today for Yum Cha with some friends. The food servers were pushy as they tried to sell us the same food over four times within an hour, obviously that steamer containing the food was unattractive (black looking, overdone meat) so had to rid of it to customers. Also, some of their Yum Cha dumplings were not fit to my standard as they were sticking to the bamboo steamer (paper lining). I complained to the manager and he said “You can still eat it… there is nothing wrong with it” though his attitude was rude (somewhat arrogant) and he did not deal with it professionally. He raised his voice after I complained and he became irritated and walked away without an apology. As I was paying with my credit card he kept repeating me to “Sign it!” in a loud manner many times.

I would not return to this restaurant again and suggest my friends the same as well.

*Also I noticed that the baby seats were covered in grime and filth. I am befuddled that the restaurant was able to get the hygiene certificate. A server also walked around with a large kettle filled with hot boiling water, too big for the server to easily maneuver around. This could cause a large hazardous issue (health & safety) is not something that should be undertaken in any restaurant practice.

Made booking for Saturday yum cha with a couple of friends through MenuMania’s online reservation but no record was received by restaurant. Fortunately we managed to get a table before the place got busy. Place was clean and service was prompt. Good variety of food and reasonably priced. Didn’t detect too much MSG either.

Our family of 60 adults and children went here for lunch on a Saturday. The restaurant was packed. Congratulations on having fantastic friendly, efficient, attentative staff. Some of the family had the yum cha, some had the set menu others of us chose from the main menu. Food was delicious all round.
The separate billing was not a problem. Will definitely be holding more functions here.

This has quickly become one of our favourite eating houses in Lower Hutt.

The Yum Cha is fantastic and plentiful.

I’ve eaten at this restaurant a number of times. The service is good, the food is great as is the decor and ambience. Just recently I went there and enjoyed their new Yum Cha. I must say it’s about time there was a decent Yum Cha restaurant in Lower Hutt it was really nice, we always had to go to town.
Keep up the good work team.

Im not to sure what Steve M is on about, I have been there numours times now, and has become my new favourite Chinese Restaurant. I have been to many chinese restaurants, yet I must say for great cooked and brilliant tasting food, this one is deffinatly rated the best in my eyes. Other than food being generous helping and tasting absolutely fab, they are very reasonable people, for example – we ordered a Nazi Goreng – it was a little bit too spicy for what we are use to, so they offered to replace this with a Combination Fried Rice (No extra charge! Brilliant!). If I HAD to complain about something in this place, quiet simply would only be the spring rolls, taste great – just fealt like they cook of been cooked 1 minute longer – the rest of the entrees I have had have been superb! Highly recommend this place to anyone out there :) – and please submit your rating on this, I would like to see how many people agree with me. Cheers!

I really can not believe all of good comments put by these people who only had one comment in the past.

Went there with friends last month. The food was below average. The lemon chicken was done really rough, two pieces of deep fried chicken breast with commercial sauce. The shrimp fired rice with only 4 or 5 tiny tiny shrimp inside. even the take away in my suburb can do better job.
The boss or manager sat with his friends behind us. Their children were running and shouting whole night. The whole experience was terrible. We won’t be back.

Went there for lunch with my collegues on Friday. I had stuffed chicken wings, they were superb but wonton noodle soup for the main. I totally didnt enjoyed it as they had chive in it. Never think wonton should have that. Anyhow, overall, i enjoyed everything except the wonton soup. But definitely would go back for something else.

Absolutely a must visit!!

My family has dined at Andrews for an entire year (10+ times). The chef is masterful, the plates are generous and delicious, the service is welcoming. We have never had any troubles, and they frequently have specials on great dishes. Just ask them about it when you arrive, and the discount is about half off!

We have been lucky to have found this place as it just started, and it only gets more popular every visit. If there was any perfect time to try Andrews, it’s now. It can be casual or formal, and they do awesome parties.

I believe they’re also opening up for lunch buffets, and I’m sure it’ll be just as fantastic. You can park round the corner of the road, and there’s a stretch next to the river bank very close by.

Who knows? I may even see you there soon. (Look for the girl who orders lemon chicken with glazed eyes of anticipation.)

I had my 50th birthday there recently. Nothing was too much trouble for Grace and the team when I wasn’t totally sure of numbers, regarding tables and seating. They also allowed my sister in prior to decorate the table and with help from the team to put the Happy Birthday sign up.

Could not fault the food at all, it was really yummy, hot to the table, and everybody enjoyed themselves.

Thanks Andrews R, your one of the best!

I had the pleasure of having lunch here today before heading off to the movies at Queensgate, on my day off.

After perusing the photographs of the dishes in the window, I decided that the lunch, $8.80 specials, certainly looked tasty and they were the decider to entice me inside the establishment.

I was greeted with a warm friendly smile and was promptly seated with a bottle of chilled water.

The recommended Korean Chicken with Steamed Rice was certainly wonderful. Flavoursome, plentiful quantities of carrots, zucchinni, cauliflower, onion and of course alot of chicken with perfectly cooked rice. I would describe it as a Sweet and Sour dish with an extra ‘zing’ of ginger.

The service was excellent, my lunch was beautiful and amazing value.

Highly recommend and I will certainly go back to partake of their other lunchtime specials!

I took faith by the two previous reviews and glad that I did. Took my young family to dinner here last night. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We ordered three starters and six mains. The aubergine vegetable dish, salt fried squid, sizzling lamb, lemon chicken, tofu and vegetables, mixed noodles. The meats were tender and the vegetables fresh. The dishes were all presented well and tasted delicious. I will definitely come again. Oh, by the way, we couldn’t eat everything, so we took the rest home for another night of yummy food!

We were looking for somewhere different to eat so decided to try Andrews Restaurant. As soon as we entered the staff were friendly and ushered us to the table of our choice near the window. The menu contained an extensive choice of Asian and Chinese dishes. I found myself ordering four entrees along with a Mee-Goreng for the main. My wife ordered one of the duck items from the menu along with the threaded pork wraps (I forget their actual name).

The food is of the highest level Asian cuisine and we will definitely be back many more times to come. Staff are attentive but not obtrusive. A dining experience we will tell all our our friends about. Thanks Andrew for a great night out!
