went there last night, the waitresses were very friendly and helpful, although I had to go to the bar every time we wanted a drink, not a major, the mezze platter was awesome and was enough for 5 of us, the five of us had lasagna and the borek and the comments were very good, my son had the apadana pizza which was really salty, Not sure if it was meat or the base, My wife had the seafood platter she found it all a bit overcooked and the scallops were tough and the mussels were so overcooked they were rubber, it was all very fresh though, I had the lamb shank with a extra shank, the whole dish was really nice, and I think it would of been 100% great if it was just cooked a little longer, If you’ve ever had lonestars shank, you ll know what i mean. Overall was really nice night..

went back on friday but the hot belly dancer is gone…should have taken her card or gotten her name at least. I reacon they should bring her back as she really added to the place. anyway the food is still top quality. the entree platter was a decent size which we could share around the table. and the mains (in particular kebabs) was delicious. we’ll be back soon

Not great, a greeting of some sort would have been good to start with and asking us about our experience, how the food was or a simple thanks for coming, hope to see you again would have helped at the end. Alas no such greeting nor farewell.
It’s not as if at anyone was overly busy given we were the only customers at 6pm tonight. Although highly unlikely to see us again, the bread and dip was above average and enjoyed. Although having to assist the extremely young and inexperienced waitress place and remove platters was not enjoyed so much but happy to help anyone struggling. I didn’t even mind having to ask for cutlery twice.
The cocktail ordered tasted like a raspberry drink nothing more and nothing less.
Well done on the Borek though, looked good tasty and well prepared. We even took it home.
The Lamb “stew” however was at the other end of the scale, bland and tasteless, the red beans had more flavour than the lamb..
I am also reasonably sure my comments were over heard but did not feel like pushing my opinion at the end given they appeared less than interested in a new customers thoughts.
Come on Apadana, clearly you have the potential to do a lot better. The value of a smile and friendly service can not be under rated.

Absolutely love the seating arrangements inside and the entertainment that comes once or twice a week although if u want the entertainment make sure u make a full house because it is well worth the show!! I love Apadana and i think i make a group and go there at least once a month as the food is great! especially the chicken lasagna and pizzas!!
service can be better and faster but otherwise great atmosphere and amazing staff

We got a great daily deal voucher so booked and came here on Saturday night. The environment is authentic Middle Eastern, pleasantly so. We ordered the Mezze Platter trying to stay true to sampling Middle Eastern dishes. ($18) and was plenty for the two of us. It had salmon, stuffed vine leaves, feta, humus, bread, turkish dip, sundried tomatoes, olives, pickles, smoked chicken, red peppers. Wow impressive starter. Very tasty. Then we ordered the combo chicken & beef shish kebab,(very, very tasty tender meat) and the King Prawn kebab with mushroom cream sauce. That sounded like a very weird combination but it turned out to me ( this is very rare) one of my OMG dishes. OMG it was GOOD.!!!! I’m still craving it now. Only quibble was the speedy turn around between courses…. bit quick for me. Wonderful atmosphere, wonderful service and wonderful food. Fabulous!!! We will be back. Soon I hope!!

Recently changed and no longer BYO so without an entertainemnt coupon we will not return. Pizza for starters was nice but it was slow to arrive. That was compensated for by the mains arriving in a timely fashion. The lamb shank, the eye fillet and the beef ribs were all enjoyed but the fish of the day was swimming in sauce which was disappoining for my friend. Very obliging as supplied salad instead of potato. Enjoyed the atmosphere and the staff were all friendly and gave good service. Will return.

My partner and I had lunch at APADANA Restaurant on 02/09/2011. We were absolutely impressed by the atmosphere of this cozy place. It was like travelling to Middle East. Wall paintings of ancient heroes, genuine rugs, fireplace, Persian music – this amazing interior took my breath away and I almost forgot why we were there. We actually found this place accidentally – I bought a voucher online worth of $50 to spend at this restaurant.
We wanted to taste something authentic so we ordered Moroccan lamb shank for me and Shandiz kebab for my partner. I must say that I’ve never eaten such beautiful lamb. Lamb is my favorite dish and I order it at every restaurant I visit. But this one exceeded my expectations. Juicy tender meat with aromatic sauce and perfectly mashed potato were outstanding. Shandiz kebab looked also marvelous. According to my partner, it tasted very well and the size of the portion was impressive.
Having finished our lunch with a nice cup of coffee we left this place satisfied with new unforgettable experience and having in mind to come back there again.
I would recommend APADANA to those who like good food, attention to detail and creativity.

and the staff were very good. The atmosphere was lovely, really relaxed and peaceful. Most definitely will be back! Thanks

Awful food..
Entrees: Seafood platter average with mushi scallops and a mush pile of smoked Salmon, Calamari was frozen deep fried and tasteless, rubbish.
1st Main Mumtaz Kebab: Tasteles, salty and old as if it was made a several days ago frozen/defrosted then heated up again. No tasty sauces of any description was given with it (this was a $29.00 main after all) so it was very very dry, absolutely horrible.
2nd Main: Fish of the day was supposed to be Terakahi. Well i have never seen a Terakahi fillet that shape before. Again it was also frozen and seemed like after defrosting it was cooked in the microwave and was like rubber, basically inedible, $28.00 worth of rubber.
Also ordered Stoneleigh Merlot Wine but were given Cask wine.
To top it off we literally had the Cutlery thrown onto the table to us,appalling service.
We have been eating out in Auckland for nearly 20 years now and this has to be the most worst dining experience i can remember especially due to the cost. In total $114.00 for two.. Better to get a takeaway than go here and be disapointed…
We should have read the reviews on here before we went,if you go after reading them you are crazy! I’d say the only decent reviews on here are from friends/family of the owners to try to counteract the negative ones… YUKKK!

We had dinner last night. That was excellent experience. The food presentation and service was outstanding. The staffs were very frinedly. The quality of food was worth for its value. We would like to visit soon and recommand to every one.

We dined here a few weeks back after getting a special deal off Spreets website. Obviously with the deal it was very reasonably priced. We loved our food, all came in good time. The atmosphere was brilliant, we felt like we were in another world for the night and the belly dancer was great entertainment. The only criticism is that we didn’t seem to get one waiter for the night and the one we had for most didn’t seem to know what she was doing and would sometimes forget we had asked for something. Also the toilets needed a good clean and I reckon an upgrade to match the top class of the restaurant. Overall though a wonderful night we really enjoyed our experience!

Big disappointment . Ordered lamb shanks and it tasted like it was a couple of days old.Dessert was just as bad, cheese cake tasted old like it had come out of box. Only good thing I enjoyed was the entertainment.

I eat here regularly due to the location. The staff are always friendly and the food is always of the same standard. I think this restaurant is ok, not magnificent but you can always know what you are getting. The pricing is fair also.
We dined here on a quiet Sunday evening and sadly this place did not meet expectations AT ALL!
The chicken lasagna was horrible – my partner and I can not place our finger on exactly which ingredient left such a nasty after taste, but it was definitely bad.

I went to Apadana on the 12/5/11 with my wife, my cousin and his wife. I don’t go out eating too often, only on special occassions. And yesterday was special, i had invited my cousin and his wife out to dinner because they have just got married recently.
First of all, the prawns we ordered for entree tasted revolting and old. The kumara chips were hot to the point where it seemed like it had been microwaved. The only entree that tasted decent was the bread and dip.
And also, the waitress that served us (young blonde girl) was extremely rude. I was encouraged by my wife, my cousin and his wife to complain about her rudeness but i didnt want to cause a sceen, so i let it go last night. I was looking at the menu and thought i read ‘duck’ somewhere and so i asked her ‘can i get this in chicken or is does this dish only come with duck’ to which she rudely replied ‘it IS chicken’, its not what she said, its HOW she said it.
Then my wife ordered a chicken fetachini, we requested ‘no mushrooms’ and the meal came to our table with tons of mushrooms in it.
When i asked the waitress to cancel that orderer and get a tabouli for my wife, she AGAIN rudely asked ‘A WHAT?’. Seriously, they need trained staff who have some good manners.
And to make the night worse another waitress came out to clear our table, instead of saying ‘can you please pass me those plates’ she stood infront of us and said ‘pass me your plates’ to which my cousin replied ‘how about you clear the table after we leave??’
I am having a hard time believing that i just spent $140 on a meal that nobody enjoyed, because of the lack of professionalism displayed by the staff.
The staff have not got the ability to talk TO customers. Their staff talk DOWN on customers.
Even though my cousin and i have eaten at apadana a dozen times by now, this is the first time we’ve brought our wives with us, and after this experience it is safe to say, we will not be coming to Apadana again.
This experience was one of the worst i’ve experiences in NZ. I can make an excuse or 2 for the food, even though i shouldnt, but they really should choose your staff more carefully. Because right now the staff you have lined up are going to bring their business to the ground.
Next time i’ll go to Nandos, i can pay under $70 to feed 4 people, and they cook ENJOYABLE food, not food you regret having eaten when it comes time to pay for it.
* Update : I just had a call from them, the manager said “Sorry, but sometime these things happen”
Well thats just not good enough…

Truly appalling. We took up the Spreets offer and took some friends. How embarrassing that proved to be. They may me feel like a criminal handing over my vouchers and making me validate myself with my driving licence while standing in the door. This was followed by truly diabolical service – as mentioned in many of the other reviews. The food was awful. My stake was grizzle – nothing like the fillet pictured on the menu and my friends lamb shank was truly inedible – I really mean that, and I doubt a dog would have eaten it! How can this place stay open? To top it all they tried to make me pay for the meal that was already covered by the vouchers as we left – and it would have cost less to pay cash than the cost of the so called 50% off vouchers. Last time for Apadana and for Spreets as well.

We have been many many times to Apadana. With our kids, with our friends & I’ve even had my Birthday party there. Every time we’ve been, the atmosphere, food & service has been nothing but outstanding. It’s why we keep going back. We feel very lucky to have a ‘local’ as good as this. Keep up the good work guys – YOU ROCK!
Terrible service! The man that served my friends and I totally ignored us. He didn’t even bothered to look at us while we wait at the front desk for approx 10mins while he talks on the phone. Need to relearn his customer service skills!

great restaurant. the best food in the city and lovely staff and buss. we just love the place and environment
More than happy with our dinning experience, nice service, nice timing on food arrival considering a Friday night, smiling staff, a good range of food to choose. Good place to celebrate something as they have entertainment.

i went to apadana restraunt for a birthday dinner on saturday the 26th feb 2011. we was book for big group of 25 people. The first thing i noticed when i walked in was the great atmosphere, and relaxed environment. We started off having some of there starters between us. The bread and dip was really good with a nice selection of dips. We also have the antipasti platter. It was really refreshing before having our main meals. .all my friends, family have different order main ,at the end all was happy. All up the restraunt was really great!! the service was excellent. i will definatly be coming back again

This place is special and not in a good way. How the place is still open i just dont know. The food me and my girlfriend had was just something to be laughed at and in my case personally offended by what i was given. If there was an award for the worst restaurant in auckland this place would win it hands down. The clock is ticking for this place to close down (tic-tok-tic-tok)

I highly enjoyed dinning here on Saturday evening, was very pleasant. I found the service great, all staff were friendly and polite. My meal was exceptional. could not find a fault. The comments below have obviously been noted and standards have been lifted. Would recommend Apadana for a dinning experience, especially on a Saturday night when the entertainment is on.
i would not recommend this place to anyone.
The main issue is their tendency to add a few extra drinks onto the bill. This happened some time ago when we went here and then again on Friday night. We caught them out on it on Friday night, and there wasn’t even a real apology.

lovely placed specially Valentin’s day. nice decoration and friendly staff and food so testy and reasonable price
Apadana is a decent place to meet up with a group of friends for a meal and a good chat. The quality of their food is fair, and quantities are ample. They are reasonably affordable so should be able to cater to everyone’s budget.

I went there in hopes of a pleasant dining experience but was let down and a bit disappointed. Once seated I noticed the glasses and knife and fork already laid out on the table had dust on them, also noticed my knife was unclean. Waited a long time to be served despite the restaurant being pretty empty. I found the food to be a bit on the bland side and most of the flavor made up for by the gravy. Also feel it was overpriced for the quality of the meal.
2
Very long wait (1.5 hr), raw chicken, terrible services, meals arrived one at the time, and a rip off when it comes to pay the bill, no appologies either.
very disappointing and i would defiantly not recommend this place.

It’s so good to have the selection from Italian, Pizza and Persian – I just love the menu! Food is excellent, service is good. If there are other restaurants around similar to this please let me know!

I went there a couple of weeks ago with my partner. We ordered pizza, as my partner wanted to stick with something “safe”, which was fine, the pizza was quite nice, although it took half an hour to be served, and the restaurant was not busy at all.
The thing that I was most appalled about was the service. We were treated pretty terribly. The waitress tried to clear our plates, whilst my partner was still cutting the pizza and eating it on his plate! We then waited another half an hour before anybody came back to our table. This was after trying to make eye contact and ask two waitresses for assistance. I eventually had to get up and ask for a takeaway bag as we had not eaten all the pizza. The manager went and got us a takeaway bag, and threw it on our table, rolled his eyes and walked off, which I found a bit rude.
We really wanted to order dessert, but considering we just sat there for another 15 minutes, and were ignored, and nothing more was offered, we got up to pay the bill. This was fine apart from the waitress talking rudely to her boss, totally preoccupied and not really paying attention to us, almost like she couldn’t really be bothered with us.
It was a dissapointing experience, and we will not be returning.

They will find a way to load up your bill. Be prepared to be disappointed or to have an argument when you pay.

We were a group of nine who went out to celebrate 3 birthdays last Friday night. We had heard a lot about Apadana and were looking forward to seeing the belly dancers as well.
We were extremely disappointed by the time we left.
The service was appalling. Our food arrived almost an hour after we ordered. We arrived at 7.30 and ordered by 8pm. The food arrived at almost 9pm by which time we were starving! The belly dancer, we were told, was to perform at 8pm. That didn’t happen. She did about a 20 minute stint from 9pm…and then left. Not to mention the waitress who served us was super rude. When we asked when our food would arrive, her answer was “can you see how busy we are!”
Once we had eaten we asked them to bring the three cakes out. Little did we know that they charged $4 dollars for bringing out each cake!! We found out when we received the bill. To make things worse, we discovered we had been overcharged. We had 9 mains and were being charged for 14! It took us a good 20 minutes to sort that out and in the end the manager didn’t even let off a mere $3.50 which was apparently left on the invoice for a glass of coke
The only thing I wouldn’t complain about would be the food. However, it’s not just the food that matters; it’s how you get treated. We have decided never to go there again!

Apadana is a decent Persian themed restaurant on Auckland’s Dominion Road. They claim to be a Mediterranean restaurant, but seem to focus predominately on Persian and Turkish cuisine, with some Italian, and ignore the other Mediterranean countries.

The quality of service was good at the start of the night, but got poorer once the night wore on and the regular waiting staff had left.

great food. truly the best kebab in auckland. great service. the food is really only late if its a big group and if its a fri/sat night. otherwise its all really worth the wait. great music. really talented belly dancer (compared to a lot of not-so good ones ive seen before). the yoghurt drink is so yum. the whole place is authentic and lovely. had a cousin come from oz and fell in love with how original it is.
i have held a big surprise birthday there and the staff was so helpful and great at attending a large number of guests. a great place for get togethers and lovely meals.

Very poor. We had to ask several times for water alone. The overpriced food tasted like it was microwaved or pre prepared food of some kind. Atmosphere was dark and dingy. Dessert was overpriced ($10) for a slice of tiramisu which was blatantly store bought, a la Sara Lee frozen dessert. Would not recommend.

Been there twice now. The best kebabs i’ve had in Auckland. Garlic prawns were great. Pizzas pretty good too.
Have learnt to allow at least 30mins for the food to arrive though. Even drinks can take some time!! So must plan ahead…but I dont mind as the food is great!

Fish of the day was good, so was the pizza and scoth fillet, fettucine was average along with dessert.
The
Prices were fair. But our meals did take a while to get out.
The belly dancer was good entertainment.

Although the food was fine, we were so disappointed with the SERVICE. Our meals took over an hour to appear and when they did one was missing, the waiter then gave my friend a completely different meal from what he had ordered [complimentary] yet never apologised for the wait or mix up.
He then proceeded to argue when we queried the bill. An apology would have gone a long way.

This place was really dissapointing. we waited an hour and a half for our mains. They forgot about our orders and didn’t start making them until we asked where they were. When we complained to the manager he didn’t apologise and was pretty hard to deal with. AVOID.

I enjoy this restaurant- it has a happy, relaxed atmosphere. The food’s very acceptable if not outstanding, service is friendly and efficient, the decor imaginative and attractive, the prices very fair. It’s on my favourites list!
