Wow I can’t believe this is the same place!! I have travelled many a time to Methven and have always stopped in at Arabica cafe, for coffee, lunch and once for dinner. All I have to say is great things about this small town cafe. Their food is fantasic, they have a number of gluten free products and seem to cater for all. They have a great selection of wines, a warm and inviting atmosphere and staff are always friendly and respectful. Thank you for your great friendly service I will enjoy seeing you next time I’m down your way.

I can’t comment on the food because we didn’t get to try any.
We arrived and I left my wife to order while I had a pit stop and then went across the road to buy a paper. After about 5 minutes my wife said that they had still not taken our order, she had been told they would be over “right away”.
I went up to the counter to order and was told in no uncertain terms to sit down and they would take our order.
I explained that we were in a bit of a hurry and was very rudely told so were they and I should go to the cafe next door. So we left.
I should have been warned by the owners florid, harassed expression.
I do wonder why these owners can’t cope with customers when they’re less than half full. Perhaps they should only seat the number of people they can deal with.

Not recommended. The person who I assume to be the proprietor was ignorant, dismissive and offensive regarding specific dietary needs, and behaved in a manner that was generally disrespectful, rude and provocative. We did not get as far as considering ordering anything.
To the owner: please look up coeliac disease.
