11 Reviews for Arizona Bar
My main reason for submitting this review is to make people aware that they will not allow you to takeaway a portion of your meal if you are unable to eat it. The prices are high, and this is not a fancy restaurant, it’s more of a bar/restaurant with sometimes large portions serving a business crowd at lunch. Sometimes you get full, sometimes you run out of time, whatever the reason, it’s just strange to be told by the sever that the chefs won’t allow them to either wrap it up or provide a take away container because of “quality control”.

We came here while on a weekend holiday and thought it was great. Good atmosphere, good music and delicious food. Only small downside was that it was extremely busy so we didn’t get the service we would have wanted. I would highly recommend this place!

Went for a meal for my mum’s birthday celebrations on Saturday and my brother from Melbourne joined us. There were 5 of us in total. The staff were all lovely and the food was great too. They made a special point to say happy birthday to my mum. If there was one fault it was that we weren’t offered the free house wine (which we had forgotten about but not a biggie). I think at times we are too quick to pass judgement on people on our cafes and restaurants and we need to pay compliments more often. Keep up the good work. Arizona has been in Wellington a good many years so they must be doing something right.

Went here for a meal (23/2) and my garlic prawn main was delicious. AND I received a free house wine which was lovely. Even though $30 is a little pricey for what it was. But overall nice.

Went here lots as a student and enjoyed it. Went today for sunday brunch and left before being served. Menu on the windows outside said sat and sun brunch free kids meal with adult meal. When sat down asked for kids menu. Told not doing that today. Told waitress that that was the reason we came in, she sighed, went and got kids menu and almost threw them at us. Very rude service, will not be going back.

2.5. I ordered the big breakfast of which most was just warm.. mushrooms and bacon almost cold which was really disappointing because I was expecting a good meal. I would not go here again when other places have similar breakfast options for $10-$12 as opposed to 20. also our coffee cups weren’t cleared when breakfast arrived at the table. disappointing as I think they could do better

Arizona is always a good place to dine, simple food, burgers, Mexican theme. Good with families or for a simple bite or drink.
Update – October 2011 – they have started charging a credit card surcharge, and price increase .. its turned it from a simple but good / price right place to overpriced.
Wont be returning soon.

We were very disappointed at Arizona. Like most of Wellington’s cuisine, it is generic American, pretending to be ‘hip and edgy’. We ordered the ‘Wellington On A Plate’ burgers. After 25 minutes, and after two neighbouring tables who ordered after us had received and almost finished their meal, we politely asked the waitperson to check. She gave us a civil, but disinterested, “they’re on their way”, without checking.
The meal did eventually arrive. The burgers were a generous size, and would be good if they turned up in your local burger bar, but were nothing special at this price. The accompanying fries were not properly cooked through – inedible.
When we paid, we were asked the standard ‘was everything OK?’ When we explained why it was not OK, we received no apology or offer to remedy it with a discount.
If you want the real Wellington/American experience, just go to McDonalds where it is cheaper and they are not pretending to be something they are not.

A friend & I stopped there for lunch on a Sunday after visiting the Kirks’ sale. All the tables were dirty, and we had to ask a passing waiter to wipe ours. Looked to be plenty of staff on for the few patrons but still took almost 1/2 an hour before we were served. When our food arrived after another long wait and further request to passing waitress to check if it was ready (Cajun pasta for my friend, F&C for me) we were so hungry that we were halfway through our meals before we noticed the burnt pasta & smelly fish. The salad served with my fish also looked off – brown wilted lettuce and a shriveled lemon wedge. We complained to the manager but she was very dismissive, and told me that the lemon was meant to look that way! Even though we didn’t finish our meals, we still had to pay for the disgusting food. We will NEVER eat there again.
