Had a long black and a nice freshly baked brioche today. The espresso was A1 – just as a long black should be served: short with a jug of hot water. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Music a bit loud for my liking but that’s just me and it wasn’t too bad. Loved the snippets of kiwiana between songs!
One gripe. Arthur Street Cafe adds a 5% surcharge when payment is made by credit card. This is the first time I’ve ever encountered this, anywhere. Less than an hour’s drive down the road, a cafe consistently rated amongst NZ’s best, charges 80c less than Arthur Street Cafe for a top class long black, yet they apparently make a satisfactory profit even when payment is made by credit card with no surcharge.

Hi, sorry you are unhappy with the credit card fee, yes we do charge a 5% fee for purchases under $50. It is on the high side to deterr people from using credit for such a small amount. generally people have cash or eftpos ready to use.

The locals all told us that this place has the best coffee in Timaru. They were not wrong.
As you walk in the service is very welcoming and quick. While the menu has all the standard breakfast dishes that looked great I had the scrambled eggs on a doughnut.
Differently worth a visit.

Had lunch there today. A great atmosphere, was young musician in the main area and the dinners were having a ball. We sat in one of the side rooms, what a good lay out.
The lunch was very appetizing and the coffee was excellent.

This place has great service. Definitely the best coffee in Timaru & actually has an atmosphere and good music, which is a rarity in Timaru.
Food tastes great especially the sweets, with the only downfall being that sometimes thew cabinet is a tad “scruffy” looking, but don’t be put off it always tastes fantastic!

My friend and I had lunch here today. The food and atmosphere were wonderful and the staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone who enjoys good food.

Fantastic cafe. Food and coffee was beautiful, and the staff were wonderful and friendly. Would highly recommend Arthur Street cafe.
