As a diner and a business owner myself, I do often wonder why people cannot bring up any concerne if they have while in the restaurant giving any restaurant a chance to correct what may have gone wrong. I just feel writing reviews can have such tainting impressions on people’s minds. well I did read some reviews and some were really good and others were not and I thought I will go and judge the place myself…and I am glad I did that!
I went there last night. And they were busy . But I could see all tables being looked after and well attended. I ordered the pork belly and my better half ordered the chicken filo and we both were very pleased with our meals and then desserts….wow! the chocolate fudge cake was delicious. We had a great evening and I thank you all at Aubergine Albany and you will see us back again!

Left the restaurant 2 hours ago. Had an awful dinning experience. Never go there again.
Atmosphere was reasonable when we arrived and it was fine right until the food came and that’s when things started to do downhill. The house wine lacked favour probably because it’s been out for too long. The steak knife was dirty. And, the portion of adult’s steak was almost the same size as kids steak, and we paid double the price.
Our waitress was so rude to us. Just when I heard the next table was asking for the tomato sauce, our waitress turned to our table and reached out to grab the sauce bottle from the centre of our table. She saw us still using it she then said “I’ll wait, just hurry up”(Her own words… I think she was too lazy to go to the kitchen to get another bottle for the other table).
After a few minutes, the same waitress came towards our table, she saw me struggling to get more tomato sauce out of the bottle for my daughter, the waitress literally grabbed the bottle off my hand and said she can’t stand it to see what I was doing.

Totally ruined our whole experience.

I work locally, and without question Aubergine is my favorite place to eat. The food is exceptional and very well priced. It’s obvious that the year on year awards are very well deserved. I often choose to bring friends and clients to Aubergine, and I have heard nothing but praise from all of them. Most of the time it is coupled with surprise that such an excellent place is hidden at the back of Albany. Well done Aubergine, and I look forward to visiting you many times this coming year as well.

I’m really unsure when this restaurant won an award. I get the feeling it may have been in the 90′s based on the style of food.
We had a large table and 8 out of the 10 diners were disappointed.
I think the quality of the food is really only deserving of mid $20′s. Then we may not have been so harsh on the quality. It is really reminiscent of pub food – this is no where close to fine dining.
The major let down in value for money was the desserts. I have never had such a sad miserly experience. Ordered the special chocolate fondant cake which is meant to ooze chocolate from the middle. The cake was the size of a table tennis ball and completely over cooked.
I would never return, there is too much choice in Albany these days to be satisfied with a restaurant that rests it’s laurels on ‘once upon a time’. My recommendation is bring your food back up to award winning style if you want to survive.

I really like this restaurant, really nice food there is a really nice male waiter, might be a manager (lots of cool wrist jewellery) he made the experience better, again awesome service. However I’ve been there four times and three of those times we had this tall browned haired lady who is soooooooo overbearing and the last time just rude, if I approach this restaurant and see her serving, I will just turn around and go… such a shame because the food is great!!!!

We ate on Mothers day evening 2012. The service was excellent, the advice on the meal options was freely given and accurate, the meals were presented very well, the overall atmosphere was very good. would recommend to anyone and will visit again.

Food was bland and different than descibed on the menu and the waiter was rude. After we complained he didnt even pretend to care – just glared at us and walked off with our dishes. So dissapointing as have been to Aubergine in Takapuna and had the most amazing food and fantastic service. For anyone considering going here I would recommend the Taka one instead

I have been to this restaurant about three times and each visit has been absolutely fantastic. The service is great and the food is beautiful in presentation, quality and flavour. The portion sizes are very decent with reasonable prices to match. I have had the vegetarian filo parcel which was great – although I did not enjoy the crunchy beans inside as they stole away from the delicacy of the filo pastry – so I would suggest the chicken one instead. I have also had the seafood plate which was absolutely delightful and bound to satisfy any seafood lover. The portion of seafood was very generous and it was all cooked to perfection. I have also tried the mediteranna platter and the antipasto platter – both were a lot of fun to eat and good portion size. Members of my family have tried the Prime Eye Filet and the Lamb Rump which they said was delightful. The dessert platter is a MUST – you get most of the desserts on the menu presented so beautifully with fantastic portion sizes. Why not try every dessert if you can?! The only criticisms I have are that on two out of three visits I had one staff member who was a bit overly-friendly and in-your-face, and one who was grumpy and under-trained. However, after picking up on our unease the manager waited on us which was an absolute delight as he is incredibly friendly and professional. I have also been told by family members that their last visit a few weeks ago was disappointing as the portion sizes have majorly decreased – although their quality of food is still superb. An example being that my mother ordered lamb and only ended up with 2 (be it delicious) mouthfuls. Will have to visit again to give a more up-to-date review! As far as I know from experience, it is a fantastic restaurant which you must try out!

Went to lunch here this week and wasn’t that impressed. Although the food was nice, 5 of us all enjoyed our meals, the service and atmosphere was null and void. Waitress couldn’t crack a smile or make conversation. Outside was a mess, yes due to building renovations but no need to have all the chairs and tables stacked by front door and mess all over the floors, Inside there was no music playing or anything, other than one other table the place was dead of any life to it.

Takapuna restaurant defiantly a better option.

If you want crappy service and an expensive ‘Pub’ meal this is the place for you, not much one can say on the meal as it was pretty disgusting as for the actual place I realize they are doing work outside but that is no excuse to have a dirty restaurant the floor looked like it had never seen a vacuum cleaner ….. 3 of us had dinner there and 3 of us will NEVER go back.

I don’t have enough words to describe the amazing experience my family and I had on the 23rd August when celebrating my daughter’s 23rd birthday. The manager, the chef, the service, the food, the personal care and professional attention were to perfection!

Have been to Aubergine in Albany many times but last time we went with family each course was very disappointing. We all agreed it wasn’t up to the usual standard so we will not be returning again.

I went there with my family last night! They were full, and I have to say their Chefs know what they are doing! Excellent meals. We were 6 of us and tried the Steak Monte Carlo, Pork Belly, Sea food Plate were the real highlights of all the meals ordered. One word “awesome”. The service was very warm and friendly. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a good meal and a good night. There meals are really big so you don’t really need to order sides, excellent desserts as well. Not surprised to see this restaurant keeping their consistency and winning the beef and lamb award for 4 consecutive years. Keep up the good work.

We went as a group of six for a birthday dinner, some of the main meals were nice but the chicken fettuccine was really ordinary, so was the bailey’s creme brulee.
The main reason why I am giving this restaurant 2 stars is because of their poor service. Our drinks order took more than 20 minutes so by the time we got to order our drinks, we were ready to order the main meal too. The finished main meal dishes were in front of us for over 20 minutes, no topping up of the water for over an hour, we had to ask for the dessert menu. Waitresses were not professional, they were humming while they were serving, did not seem interested at all at their job, as we had to repeat our request over and over. I will certainly not go back to this restaurant, such a shame because my seafood plate was really nice.

Have had a few meals at this restaurant. The last time I went was with family for a birthday. They had run out of 3 menu items one of which was the Pork belly (they claim it to be one of their signature dishes). Ended up having a terrible meal of “Steak Monte Carlo”. They also claim to make their own gravy however I’m sure the chef doesn’t work for Maggi (tasted like it was out of a packet). I used to love this restaurant but it seems to be going down hill rapidly as the owners cut corners. Won’t be going back.

thought the food was delicious,
out of 4 mains we ordered i thought lamb rump and duck were really nice,
the other two, vegetarian and chicken filo parcels were not as good though,
but overall we thought the meal was good
But i thought the staff were not that friendly, They were great at filling the glasses with water when empty etc but that was all, no smiles really.
think we will come back to aubergine but maybe not albany branch,

Went to Aubergine for dinner last night (a Tuesday) and was amazed at how busy they were! Thought that must be a good sign! Despite having a couple of large groups in the service was good and the food was quick to come out. Happy to see a vegetarian section on the menu, although there are only three options. The vege filo was very good, as was the vanilla creme brulee. Would definitely dine here again.

Convenient location for parking and access with good atmosphere. Waiting staff is friendly, well mannered.

Now the food. Risotto was below-below average. But then there are more places can’t cook proper Risotto. One of the best I had so far is from Logan Brown down in Wellington back in 2000.

Crispy pork was nice. Skin was a little bit on sticky side. I prefer more crispy side. But the skin was nicely cooked enough. Meet itself was very tender and melting. Sauce was very good. Not very happy with cooked veggies with it though. Cauliflowers? Broccoli? They could have been a bit more creative. Asparagus, Eggplants are all good and better choices.

Antipasto platter (entree) wasn’t too bad. But wouldn’t have it again. Way too little selection and way too blend.

My Husband and I went for a Sunday brunch. The atmosphere and the staff were nice. The food too was nice. My husband says the eggs Benedict is very good and he tries it a lot in many places. I ordered a lasagne…. now I can’t complain too much as I ate it all. It was very nice. Only I’m sure that it wasn’t lasagne, it appeared more like a cottage pie to me, having no pasta inside and having what appeared (and tasted like) mash on the top!
The only complaint I have was in the handling of my observation. Like I said it was tasty and so I ate it all up like a good girl, I thought it was quite funny and made a light hearted comment. The answer that finally came back was this…… the pasta was very thin so it must’ve melted. Now I don’t know about you but I’ve never found melting pasta anywhere in the World ( I even tried to melt some myself!) so maybe this place should be worth a visit just so that you can experience “melting pasta”. :-)
