24 Reviews for Aubergine Albany Restaurant
I went there last night. And they were busy . But I could see all tables being looked after and well attended. I ordered the pork belly and my better half ordered the chicken filo and we both were very pleased with our meals and then desserts….wow! the chocolate fudge cake was delicious. We had a great evening and I thank you all at Aubergine Albany and you will see us back again!
Atmosphere was reasonable when we arrived and it was fine right until the food came and that’s when things started to do downhill. The house wine lacked favour probably because it’s been out for too long. The steak knife was dirty. And, the portion of adult’s steak was almost the same size as kids steak, and we paid double the price.
Our waitress was so rude to us. Just when I heard the next table was asking for the tomato sauce, our waitress turned to our table and reached out to grab the sauce bottle from the centre of our table. She saw us still using it she then said “I’ll wait, just hurry up”(Her own words… I think she was too lazy to go to the kitchen to get another bottle for the other table).
After a few minutes, the same waitress came towards our table, she saw me struggling to get more tomato sauce out of the bottle for my daughter, the waitress literally grabbed the bottle off my hand and said she can’t stand it to see what I was doing.
Totally ruined our whole experience.

We had a large table and 8 out of the 10 diners were disappointed.
I think the quality of the food is really only deserving of mid $20′s. Then we may not have been so harsh on the quality. It is really reminiscent of pub food – this is no where close to fine dining.
The major let down in value for money was the desserts. I have never had such a sad miserly experience. Ordered the special chocolate fondant cake which is meant to ooze chocolate from the middle. The cake was the size of a table tennis ball and completely over cooked.
I would never return, there is too much choice in Albany these days to be satisfied with a restaurant that rests it’s laurels on ‘once upon a time’. My recommendation is bring your food back up to award winning style if you want to survive.

The main reason why I am giving this restaurant 2 stars is because of their poor service. Our drinks order took more than 20 minutes so by the time we got to order our drinks, we were ready to order the main meal too. The finished main meal dishes were in front of us for over 20 minutes, no topping up of the water for over an hour, we had to ask for the dessert menu. Waitresses were not professional, they were humming while they were serving, did not seem interested at all at their job, as we had to repeat our request over and over. I will certainly not go back to this restaurant, such a shame because my seafood plate was really nice.

out of 4 mains we ordered i thought lamb rump and duck were really nice,
the other two, vegetarian and chicken filo parcels were not as good though,
but overall we thought the meal was good
But i thought the staff were not that friendly, They were great at filling the glasses with water when empty etc but that was all, no smiles really.
think we will come back to aubergine but maybe not albany branch,

Now the food. Risotto was below-below average. But then there are more places can’t cook proper Risotto. One of the best I had so far is from Logan Brown down in Wellington back in 2000.
Crispy pork was nice. Skin was a little bit on sticky side. I prefer more crispy side. But the skin was nicely cooked enough. Meet itself was very tender and melting. Sauce was very good. Not very happy with cooked veggies with it though. Cauliflowers? Broccoli? They could have been a bit more creative. Asparagus, Eggplants are all good and better choices.
Antipasto platter (entree) wasn’t too bad. But wouldn’t have it again. Way too little selection and way too blend.
The only complaint I have was in the handling of my observation. Like I said it was tasty and so I ate it all up like a good girl, I thought it was quite funny and made a light hearted comment. The answer that finally came back was this…… the pasta was very thin so it must’ve melted. Now I don’t know about you but I’ve never found melting pasta anywhere in the World ( I even tried to melt some myself!) so maybe this place should be worth a visit just so that you can experience “melting pasta”.
