Nice place definitely try and get a window seat, the menu is simple but elegant and the food is well presented and tastes great. Bacchus is a good place to go if you want a little privacy and intimacy, well done guys!

We had a great night at Bacchus with the fantastic food matching the service from the staff. The restaurant also has a nice upstairs outlook of the Octagon through some flower boxes.

There is an extensive wine list and after Auckland the meals are large. Try the chicken liver pate with red onion and pomegranate relish or if they have it a fish special with lime.

My husband and I celebrated our Anniversary at Bacchus after hearing about it for years (when we were still two poor Uni students)! With two years of marriage under our belts we felt it was a very good excuse to spoil ourselves and were curious to see if Bacchus would live up to all the hype and good reviews!

I’m happy to say that our expectations were certainly met in all areas. The restaurant design was very calm and comtemporary, and not too busy (we arrived at 7pm), the service was charming, friendly and professional (we feared it would all be a little too ‘formal’ for us but were wrong!). Our meals were all just beautiful.

The highlight for me and my sweet-tooth was the Creme Brulee, it was out of this world! We both loved our experience at Bacchus and will be back!

My husband and I last weekend dined at Bacchus Wine Bar and Restaurant last weekend and it was outstanding in so many words I cannot think were to begin !!!

For entree I had the salmon and my husband had the lambs fry and bacon which was just like mum used to make it ! For our main I had the chicken on pasnip with spinach and bell pepper absolutely to die for !!! My husband had the steak cooked perfectly medium rare.

To finish off we both had for desert the rhubarb creme brulee the best creme brulee I have ever had in my life time.

Overall great food, great service and a great wine selection.

We would go back in a heart beat and I believe that Bacchus Wine Bar and Restaurant is by far the best restaurant in Dunedin.

We highly recommend you will not be disappointed !

My husband and I took a potential out of town client to this restaurant last week. Although we were happy with our meals, ( the risotto was excellent) she had a crab cake for an entree which had shell all through it.
I wouldn’t expect this from a restaurant of this calibre and even after telling the waitress our guest wasn’t offered a replacement or even a free coffee
It certainly left an unpleasant taste all around
Would we go there again,…probably not

Ordered two glasses of Emerson’s pilsener, one coffee, one glass of house wine, a cheese platter and a selection of bread. Althought I expected the drinks to be more expensive (I consider Bacchus’s decor and ambiance to be excellent)I thought the cheese selection and bread to be mediocre (the latter was even stale) so the ultimate price of $69 was exorbitant. We won’t be back!

Dined with a few of friends and obviously a large table is too much for this restaurant.
The entrees took forever to arrive and the my scallops were uninspired.
At $37 odd for a main you would expect it to be spectacular. I ordered Blue cod and it was over cooked, my partner ordered the salmon and it was also over cooked. Just not good enough! We wont be back . FYI the service was friendly and professional.

Fantastic place to go, expensive but worth treating yourself. Great wine list, great food, service is always of the same excellent standard. Has always consistently performed above expectation.
