The chef is quite surly and the pizza is very, very ordinary – I actually have no idea how they’ve stayed open for so long. Not many toppings and all piled in the middle leaving a dry, plain outside edge. It’s not for me, sorry.

It didn’t feel right, but I thought I’d give them a try anyway – Hell Pizza and Pizza Hut are just up the road afterall – they’d have to be better to survive, right?

Nope. In the end I was shocked at how bad the pizza was – the worst I’ve ever had. Burnt and dry, with virtually no toppings on a thick cardboard base. Pathetic.

Looking at the previous reviews I can only assume it was once pretty good, but the previous owners must have moved on. I’ll be moving along too. Avoid.

The rest of these reviewers must have had their taste buds surgically removed.

We just had two pizzas from this place (Proscuitto and Pepperoni) and they were probably the worst pizzas I’ve ever eaten.

Despite the jargon on the website, they use absolutely no fresh ingredients.

I was disappointed when I asked about the Proscuitto and was told they don’t use proscuitto but ‘New Zealand ham’ instead. Turns out they meant Spam! There was an open tin on the counter when I arrived.

It only got worse when we started eating. The dough was not fresh and tasted like a frozen supermarket base. There was no sign of any sugo (cooked tomato sauce), the cheese was grated supermarket cheddar and the ‘fresh herbs’ were dried and straight from the packet.

If you enjoy good pizza, avoid this place like the plague.

Had a Zlatko’s special with capers and anchovies! Deliciously-mouthwatering and awesome, thin pizza bases. Not greasy and overcarbed like other chain pizza places. Nothing flash, just a straight-up old European pizza parlour with Olde Worlde charm. Funny pizza chef! Very reasonably priced. Highly recommend!!! 5 thumbs up!

A hidden gem. Not fancy, not pretentious. The place smells like a pizza joint should, the selection is great, the prices are very reasonable.
I had a quattro stagioni and it was top notch.
Definitely going back.

Straight-up the best pizza in the city.

Chain outlets with minimum-wage earners making greasy, American-style pies out of kits with ingredients you can’t spell will never be a match for this Auckland institution. Nor can they beat Baker Boys on price.

For 30 years Slavo has made his pizzas by hand, with real ingredients, in the mediterranean style. Delicious, homestyle pies with basil, tomatoes, pepperoni, mozzarella, and anything else Mother Nature provides.//
