Bamboozle Oriental Fusion Kitchen & Bar. Bamboozled.
Bamboozle is located the main street of Sumner, and is owned by well-known Christchurch chef Phillip Kraal. After losing his inner-city Crumpet Club restaurant, Kraal launched the Asian fusion idea of Bamboozle, that he’d been planning for quite some time.
Bamboozle makes excellent traditional Asian dishes, like soy-glazed whole chicken, and also reworks some with a fusion leaning – like steamed pork buns filled with a Caesar-style stuffing of bacon and garlic with parmesan and anchovies, or delights such as wontons filled with hazelnut & camembert. Just Amazing! great atmosphere, wonderful food and friendly service. My boyfriend took me there for our Valentines date and I enjoyed every minute of it. Good selection of food!
Can’t wait to go back there!

We had a fantastic evening at Bamboozle with seven friends, some of whom are hard to please yet everyone was delighted with the food they received. We all chose 2 or 3 items from the menu to share as suggested (though this was not easy as everything looked mouth-watering) and the only bad thing was that we were too full to finish it all or try the desserts! We tried so many dishes that it’s hard to pick winners, but the mussels in curry were fantastic, as was the pork belly and the whole fried gurnard in black bean. A personal favourite of mine were the camembert wontons, delicious! Truly was one of the best meals I’ve had out in Christchurch, great to see an innovative menu with a twist on what you’d usually expect in oriental restaurants. A must try and a great asset to Sumner.

We couldn’t wait to try out Bamboozle as we luvd Crumpet Club and LBB. But OMG we were so disappointed. The food was yuk. We absolutely luv Chinwag and thought this would be along the same lines – lots of different flavours. Sadly we were wrong. The pork dumplings/steamed dim sims were horrible. No tastes or seasonings just plain pork mince that smelt with a bland shrimp poked in the middle. And only soya sauce as a dipping sauce. The lamb just tasted strongly of cumin and nothing else and the pork belly was cold and the tastiest part of that dish was the tomato! We left straight after we had eaten and felt very very let down. Not sure what they are trying to do here?

After much anticipation of the opening, excited about the decor thought wow this is going to blow me away – only to be disappointed.
Evening we went they had run out of rice!!!! Never informed, also ran out of ingredients for noddles. Staff need a bit more training. Will give it one more go though as I have also heard good reports
