Their a la carte menu has a wide range of meals & prices, but with an emphasis on substantial, wholesome food. Bar Africa are not shy about serving protein! Steaks, ribs & burgers are a speciality. All meals are prepared from fresh, raw ingredients.
Bar Africa is a large fully licensed venue seating 120 inside; + two huge separate outdoor areas: 100-150 in the Village & up to 300 in the Courtyard. Saturday is the big night for parties but Thurs & Fri increasingly attract functions. Licensed for 420 guests with an abundance of parking.
The Serengeti Room is for corporate meetings, seminars, private dining, stag dos, etc. Available free of charge to guests using our food & beverage facilities.
Bar Africa is also the home of country music in Auckland, with Sunday lunchtime performances for a great lunch experience!
11 Reviews for Bar Africa
We occupied a very cool outdoor under-cover area, with plenty of bench-seat / picnic-table type square seating arrangements, which was very conducive to easy chatting and socializing.
I think it was the first cold night of the year… so they hadn’t fired up the big fire yet and couldn’t get it going. But that would be my only recommendation. Everything else was great.
In particular, I want to say that the Bar Africa staff were fantastic – chatty and friendly bar guy, and then the staff were extremely helpful when I forgot to close my bar-tab after leaving a private function at Bar Africa. Several staff went beyond the call of duty to help me process my payment, and to drop off my card to me up the road. Thank you!
My observation is that they try to do too much and are not focussing on doing less but well. For example the food was plentiful but the quality was well below average for $27. The venue itself is far too big and sends mixed messages to customers e.g. is it a bar or family restaurant? And what is with the red rose on the dining table? What if two guys are having dinner together and they have a rose between them? Isn’t that awkward!
Even when we have gone for a meal when other “bar” functions such as “quiz night” are on they have accommodated us well as there is enough room to keep you separate.
