It’s all about flavour at Bayou. Your tastebuds will be gently ‘wowed’ by this New Orleans-influenced cuisine with a kiwi twist. The chef’s sumptuous sauces at Bayou are legendary.

Many diners love the flavours so much that they call the chef out of the kitchen to purchase a bottle of his unique handmade sauce, like the “Smoked Chilli Tobasco”.

Diners make Bayou a destination, whether it’s local Cantabrians heading out from the central city, or travellers checking out the delights of Sumner.

You can lounge in the Outdoor Courtyard, or head inside to the Upstairs Dining Room.

There’s also a Fresh Fruit Ice-Dream Parlour, a Private Bar & Function Room, a Private Annex & Courtyard, plus a Cafe & Coffee Shop.

We had booked a table for my partners birthday and arrived 5 minutes later than booked (which was pointed out to us by the chef). We were not given menus for awhile, however the wait staff were attentive and guided us through the menu. We ordered approximately 7.40pm. Breads and chips were brought out in a timely fashion. Unfortunately this is where the good service stops.
Main meals were delivered to the table at 10.10pm (with the two children’s meals delivered 9.55pm).
We were assured several times that the meals were on the way, and yet we still waited an extra hour.
After waiting several hours for main meals I walked the children to the local dairy and brought bumper bars to keep them going.
My son had ordered a plain spaghetti with a tomato sauce, however after two hours this was not what was delivered to the table rather a stir through mince sauce and spiral pasta (am sure this could have been whipped up in less than 2 hours).
This was the last straw for myself and my son. I had to leave the restaurant with him at this point. My meal had still not come and was told it could be packaged as take away. I said this would be fine and could come home with the rest of my family.
I was disappointed to hear that I was changed $32 for a main meal that I had to eat at home at 11.00pm and also pay for a child’s meal that was not what was ordered.
We were not the only table to be effected with several tables walking out after a long wait and other tables getting meals that were incorrect.
This was not a great experience on any evening particularly for my partners birthday and new years eve.
it could be thought that there was overcrowding of tables etc, however with only approx 30 diners in one room and a few more upstairs I think they should have coped.
