Visited on a Sunday night in a family group. The food was exactly as one would expect at a Speights Alehouse: excellent in quality and quantity. The staff were friendly and efficient although there was a full house. In fact, one staff member who was acting as front-of-house host, was a real highlight in his own right – a big fella who sorta looked out of place working in a restaurant, but what a character! Only one downside – very noisy. But with a full house and everyone enjoying themselves, who could complain about that?

I will start with the good things before i get down to business.
The Fit out of the bar and set up is great. It looks like alot of thought has gone into it.
The Band they have got on a Tuesday is great and the atmosphere was pretty good.
The service is really hot cold. A couple of the staff there were awesome but the rest of them really let the side down and were some of the worst i have ever stuck. We had a girl tell us when we brought our last drink that we in her words ” had to hurry up and drink it and get out “.
The food order took over a hour to receive and when we got it was all wrong and cold.
If they can get the service right here it could be an awesome venue.

All about the Breakfast. Hadn’t been before but had the salmon on baguette with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. Absolutely mouthwatering. Could not believe my taste buds. Well Done – I’m coming back with friends!

My boyfriend and I had a fantastic meal at this restaurant. I had a delicious steak, cooked just as asked, medium rare and topped with a wonderful peppercorn sauce and a blue cheese filled oyster, yum! The place was packed out so i would say a reservation is a necessity no matter what night of the week. We weren’t waited on hand and foot, but we managed to get what we needed and enjoyed our meal together! Would recommend it!

me and my partner came to this restaurant thinking the meal was going to be the best thing ever because of the may that people we knew had been saying, unfortunately we were disappointed. the service was crap, and the food was even worse. does it really take ten minutes to get a drink when all the bar staff were doing was talking and nothing else. and the food, the salad wasn’t fresh and was as dry as anything, and the fish, man my shit would taste better than that.
all i can say is that meal was a rip off, the cook needs to learn how to cook

I have eaten in a few Speight’s Ale Houses now and the formula generally works well. The atmosphere at Bealey’s was good even on a Tuesday night. The staff were all very friendly and generally kept up even though there was a full restaurant. The food was very well presented and the med-rare steak was perfectly done. The only negative is the noise – I assume it is bad due to the wooden floor and walls that echo everything. This is one Speight’s Ale House I will be returning to – Wanaka is the other.
