I ordered some kind of egg and rice dish, it tasted ok. The reason I gave this place a 1 out of 5 is that the service was horrible! I ordered the food, sat down, and the food was literally thrown at me. What was she thinking? That was just uncalled for and I have not been back since and will probably never go back. She didn’t even give me any acknowledgement as she handed me the food, she just looked away, chucked it at me, and moved on.
What a disgrace to the art and quality of Japanese cuisine.

Beautiful. Best quality and best selection in Auckland, full stop. I have eaten sushi EVERYWHERE, and there is no better than at Bian.
They are very authentic, and have a wide range of flavours, with other things like takoyaki and salad. Their range of cooked meals off the menu is also fantastic, and I am never disappointed.
Do yourself a favour, visit them today!

Hands down best sushi in Auckland, yum. Also a very intimate and friendly environment especially around dinner time when the lunch crowd has died down. Love how there’s help yourself condiments and green tea.
I work across the road and would eat there once a week for lunch.
The Sushi always seems fresh and freshly made for the lunchtime trade. On most days there is a queue but the service is quick and efficient. My favorite would be the smoked eel.
It is not cheap but it would be hard to find better Sushi.

Bian was very good when I first tried it a few years back – the rice was just right (not mushy, and not hot/warm) and the fillings were ‘different’ to other sushi shops (at the time).
However, the standards have dropped and I’ve found that the quality really depends on the time you go. If you go an hour or so before they close, you’ll probably have to order off the menu and order a minimum amount of the same sushi. While the fillings would be fresh, they don’t cool down the rice before rolling the sushi, so the whole thing ends up being soggy and warm (ugh).
Also it’s expensive in comparison to most other sushi takeways (most at $1.40 each).
Having said that, I still go there occassionally and I love their homemade tartare sauce.

I have no idea what ‘Doria’ who wrote the review prior to mine is on about, this sushi place is THE BEST sushi place that I have ever been to. Infact, ever since I found it I have been going there at least 3 nights a week for dinner. I have never been to a sushi place where the sushi tasted as fresh as this – especially the salmon and avocado. Their miso soup is the best I have tried and their spicy chicken don is amazing (though yes, it doesn’t have veges). I would also recommend the chicken katsu curry =)

The restaurant is horrible and I have no idea how it got to the pages in Metro in the first place. The sushi meat seems old every time I go there and they don’t seem make traditional nor professional sushi. Their sushi rice was grabbed too firmly, so it kind of feels like you’re eating some badly cut fish on rice cake instead of sushi not to mention how their deep fried food were all soggy after 4ish. The don was the most pathetic don I have ever had in Auckland where there was hardly any trace of fresh vegetables, just some teriyaki sauce and meat on top of rice that seems like it wasn’t cooked for the purpose of a don. All and all I’d rather go to banzai which is close by.
