waited an hour for our meal. our main was brought out without our starter. our starter arrived after 1 hr 10 mins.. seafood chowder, watery, luke warm and tasted of parsley.
mains – pie and fish and chips, very average
$64 later.. not impressed.
wrote a letter to the manager about the poor standard of service and food, got a one liner back and that was it.
dont think i will be going here again any time soon..

We went to The Bog recently as food in the past had been OK. Sadly it’s gone downhill. The food was greasy and nearly cold.
The young woman behind the bar seemed much more interesting in serving drinking clients.
The tables and chairs felt very grubby. Not a pleasant experience. We’ll not be going there again

Awful! The food at The Bog inspired me to set up an account here just so I could share how bad it was.
7 of us ordered breakfast, and only 1 meal was hot. We ordered 3 coffees, and 1 was hot. We asked for the warm coffees to be replaced and the replacements were even colder.
The staff didn’t seem too interested in our complaints. In the end we received a refund for the coffees which we didn’t drink. We didn’t ask for a refund for the cold food, but we certainly won’t be going back again.
We had to wait a long time for our cold food, and they weren’t even busy. This place has some serious problems.

I usually only review places I have enjoyed but had to put a review on here as it was the worst dining experience I have had in Dunedin. I came here with my partner for lunch on a Sunday…
-I was somewhat expecting to hear Irish music in an Irish bar but was surprised to hear the most tacky night club music that even self respecting night clubs do not play, “I’m horny”, “who let the dogs out”, “s club party” the music was overbearing and so loud for a Sunday lunch time. I found it so off putting that I nearly got up and left before we ordered our lunch. The bar was empty and my partner and I had to lean in close to talk to one another across the table or shout to compete with the music.
The waitress was friendly enough but when giving us our cutlery, she dumped the knifes and forks in the middle of the table wrapped in the napkins and left abruptly. I am not a huge waiting/table manner snob but I would think if you are in a restaurant that gives cutlery out by wait staff then each diner should get there cutlery placed beside them. The place was completely empty so not sure why she felt the need to rush.
My food was mediocre, my partners was “satisfactory”.
My coffee was luke warm when it arrived at the table and it was so milky that I literally had one sip and was put off drinking anymore. Tasted like instant coffee with half milk that had been zapped in a microwave.
I am not sure what the bog is trying to be. Its seems its trying to cater to too many crowds and is not getting it right..I feel its a shame as the interior and location are perfect for what should be a good established Irish bar and restaurant.
The Craic is a good example of an Irish bar that has a wonderful Irish inspired menu which is enjoyable to dine in but still maintains a vibrant amount of night life, and it never plays poppy cheesy music either.

Service was very good, attentive and friendly but meals seemed a bit over-priced for what we got, 4 of us ordered 250gm steak, 1 steak was half the size of the other 3. The recipient however didn’t want to complain but really, the chef should’ve made sure all steaks were approximately the same size.
The sticky date pudding was missing the dates and a decent sauce. The mud cake was more of a sponge than rich cake.

Delicious food, great customer service and atmosphere. The only qualm I had is whether it’s necessary to play Irish music and only Irish music all the time. But it is an Irish pub so you get what the sign says!! Very good

Brilliant, sorry to hear that the landlord is not renewing the lease.
