Average food and service. The $10 menu is a bargin but the waitress was so pushy about do you want drinks/naan/rice/starters/sides it got very uncomfortable.

Went to Bolliwood, Ponsonby on Monday night for the $10 dinner special in a group of 9 people. The restaurant was very busy. We didn’t have the booking but we were seated very courteously by the staff member. The food was absolutely delicious specially the mutton handi and the service was great. The best indian restaurant in Auckland. Great to know they have a branch in Takapuna as we like to dine in Taka too, away from the hustle and bustle of the town. Once again, I would like to extend my thanks to the management of Bolliwood- Lovely modern restaurant with very authentic food. Well done guys! keep up the good work.

Thoroughly unimpressed. It began well, Bolliwood Ponsonby, with simple modern decor, although apart from the projected images of Indian dancers in the corner it could have been any restaurant. The menu included an unexpected oriental platter. That they were able to accommodate our table of 16 on a Friday night at the last minute should have been a red flag.
We had to ask to have our order taken, the waiter hadn’t numbered the meals on the docket so every meal that came out was yelled across our table, one waiter spilled yoghurt on my friend’s pants then burnt his hand on the hot plate as he placed it on the table. The garlic naan bread did not taste like garlic. Another friend was disappointed when he ordered his curry ‘hot’, sent it back when he discovered it was mild yet when it came back it was only mildly hotter.
He was further disgruntled later when a waiter dropped a knife and fork down his back while clearing dishes. The waiter apologised and moved on. When I pointed out there was still food all over the chair, the waiter used a used napkin from our table to wipe it. Stunned, I asked the obvious, “are you using a used napkin to clean that?” – his response was “no, no, it is clean”. My friend’s girlfriend spent the next 15 minutes trying to get the curry out from his shirt so it wouldn’t stain. I was also unimpressed by the waiters clearing the dishes of some people before everyone had finished – clearing after everyone at the table is finished is basic etiquette of restaurant service. One comment from the table was, “Why are they trying to hurry us out? It’s not like they’re busy.” In fact, at that time the only other customers were a couple and their screaming baby.
When we went to pay, I saw the bill included 10 bottles of corkage. Knowing one bottle I had brought hadn’t been opened, I said so, a friend said that she hadn’t opened one of theirs either, so we explained that it should only be 8 bottles. The manager argued, saying we had used 12 bottles and they were only charging us for 10, then suggested I go back and count the bottles. I did, came back and said we opened 8 bottles. In amongst his unprofessional, rude, inappropriate response he said “you don’t trust” and “fine, pay for what you want”. I said we were happy to pay for what we used. When I began to say that the way he was handling this was exemplary of the bad service we had received, he again interrupted me and I could see my feedback was going to fall on deaf ears so paid and left. A memorable evening, none of us were impressed nor will we be back.

I was so shocked by our experience the other night! Me and my 2 friends went back as the last $10 Wednesday night we fell in love with the place, great food and service BUT THIS TIME it took so long to get a waiter to our table (who if had cracked a smile would have been an shock) once our meals came out my friends mango chicken was way too sweet and all of our garlic naan breads were missing the garlic! and me and friend #2 medium korma was so bland! After telling the man at the counter we were very unhappy he was very rude to us, my friend did not want to pay for her mango (as she ate no more then a bite) and he continued to be rude and say he couldn’t do anything as ‘it was in the system’ in the end he did – have to say we will not be returning! Very disappointing after the fantastic time we had the first time! and if he had just of apologised it may have been different!
Two of us walked in on a busy Thursday night. After a 10 minute drink at the bar they had found us a table.
It was suggested that we have the banquet for two. The food was great and too much for us to eat it all.
It had been years since I had last been to Bolliwood and I will be returning a bit quicker next time.

My partner and I went here last night, it seemed very busy and we didn’t have a reservation but they still got us a table.
Since we went on a Tuesday the meals were only $10. The service was fast and the waiter was very helpful in helping me choose my meal as I wasn’t sure what I wanted!
There’s something for everyone on the menu, the Naan bread was really good and the Mango Chicken was great.
I usually have my Curry Hot but this meal was reallyyy hot. Next time I think I’ll just get medium.
I’ll defiantly go back, I’m really fussy where I get my Indian from so now that I’ve moved here I’m happy to have found a place with yummy Indian

Good food but will NOT be returning. This place will rip you off (by $100 for our group) and refuse to do anything about it. Pitty, because I would have happily gone back.

Was never a big fan of Indian cuisine but after going to Bolliwood my mind has changed now significantly. I’m not sure what happened to the person below but I have been to Bolliwood now at least 3 times in the past month and each time, service had been immaculate!! All waiters/waitresses are exremly polite, we were made very welcome. Our meals were not only delicious but served promptly! The naan bread is amazing!! Highly recommend the sizzling platter.
Very much looking forward to my next visit.

TERRIBLE service.
My friend and I stopped over for some Indian cuisine in Ponsonby one night.
We didn’t have a reservation, so the waiter took us to the very back of the restaurant where there were no lights.
The waiting staff barely acknowledged our presence, and took too long to take our order.
The meals were too salty and we couldn’t even see much of our food (as there were no lights around us!).
Once we managed to scrape the food off of our plates, the waiter hurried us out of the table.
I had NEVER experienced more horrid service than this anywhere else.
Their staff are rude, inconsiderate, and are in a dire need of some proper hospitality training.
We were very offended and will NEVER return

the curry was good – naan was good. service was good. but the price is abit high, i mean you can get good curries for half the price. location is ponsonby hence the price.

This place has a fantastic cheap lunch special that i would highly recommend. $10 for basically a meal! I have found at night when I have gone that it was saltier slightly but otherwise I LOVE this place!
