Mains are around $34 which just gets you a regular size 300g steak. Cooked ok, but how hard is that? Then you pay an extra $9 for each side, small bowl of fries, salad, garden vege. So your looking at around $50 a meal if you want a salad and some fries with your steak.
Not good value. However if you dont care then its an ok over priced steak meal with great service and nice location.
We ordered two mains, a salad and shared a dessert, no wines. (We were surprised that such a meat-oriented restaurant didn’t give more information about the origins/provenance of the different cuts.)
The Free Range Pork dish was pork overcooked, three ways; the loin and ribs were tasty but the croquette was dry and stringy. There was no succulence or sweetness in any of the pork. The potato salad in the dish did nothing to complement the grouping, but provided some moisture and creaminess.
The 300gm Porterhouse was cooked somewhat beyond the medium-rare we requested although it was flavoursome, but the Cafe de Paris butter lacked zing.
However the Pear, blue cheese. baby spinach and walnut salad (made with mixed salad greens because spinach was not available) was delightfully balanced.
And the strawberry panna cotta with black pepper ice cream was utterly delicious.
If we ever visit Wanaka again, I think we’d choose a selection of starters and dessert, and skip the mains.
The prices for individual sides were cause for thought. $12.95 for bread…really, for four half slices?? $8.95 for carrots??
Service was friendly and efficient, although it was disconcerting to be asked by three different staff members how we liked our meal after we had indicated to one that we thought the mains were overcooked.
But the $AU90 bill was certainly reasonable, compared to similar-style restaurants in Sydney.

Entree we shared the squid, while for mains he had the prime rib with green beans and potato croquette and I had the lamb. Both were absolutely to die for and the people at the two tables around us started up a conversation about how amazing their food was! Unfortunately we didn’t have room for dessert, but from looking at what other tables were having delivered it looked divine.
The service was absolutely faultless – I even tipped which is almost unheard of for us!
