BREAKY/BRUNCH: Be sustained for the day with the likes of Free Range Eggs on Toast; Muesli; Pancakes.

LUNCH: Try a Juicy Rib eye Steak Burger with beetroot, cheese, caramelized onions & our horseradish cream served with golden fries; OR the Seafood Chowder is a top seller, as is the Grilled Chicken Open Sandwich, with bacon, tomato & avocado, our own mayo on lightly toasted ciabatta bread, also served with golden fries.

CABINET: Or grab a quick bite: homemade salads, rolls, gaint cheeserolls, cakes, muffins and slices.

DINNER: Be tempted by a succulent Prime Ribeye, (herb marinated, served on potato rosti, green beans & horseradish mascarpone); OR how about crisp golden Blue Cod in a Beer batter; OR maybe slow roasted tomatoes, basil pesto on Portobello Mushrooms.

I have been here twice this week. I had portabello mushrooms the first time with a mate who had fish of the day (salmon). They were cooked immaculately! Mushrooms is such a well balanced dish.
Second time was with my girlfriend (#stoked) and we got s+p squid and a platter. It was so delicious. Mini salad on the plate accompanying squid. The sauce which comes with has a nice amount of spice. Platter is the best I have ever had anywhere.
A++ will trade again! 11/10

I had been really enjoying going to Brew for a coffee after work while I am placed out that way until today. I was apprehensive at first about going in because neither of the guys I had seen working there before, and got nice coffees off were there, it was the girl in the pictures on this page. Service was prompt enough my main issue was the customer service and what I witnessed on the coffee machine. I ordered a coffee and the seafood chowder (over the squid on the waitresses recommendation) and was asked if I wanted my coffee now or with my food = great.

I did say now though and was sitting where I could watch her make the coffee. Now if you’ve never made coffee before this probably isn’t an issue for you but I watched her, never clean her basket between coffees, never backflush the machine, every extraction I saw took over 10 seconds to start and then they all dripped out mostly on one side. This is far from ideal extraction and made me really glad I don’t drink short blacks. I tried my coffee and yes the temperature was good but the coffee flavour was off. Although the girl serving was aware that I was not happy with my coffee she still left it on my table until I left an hour later. She did ask me if I wanted another one but after seeing her make a few coffees it was obvious she doesn’t care about extraction. She was often sweeping up the coffee around her grinder but never clearing it all off her mat and then tamping right into it so the bottoms of her groups had coffee grinds in them. I won’t be going back if I see her working again.

My seafood chowder was ok. There was heaps of seafood though nothing about the flavour jumped out at me. The bread was nice though it had too much oil on it.

Then when I went to pay she was going to charge me the extra for ordering a soy coffee, which I noticed. She was not apologetic that I didn’t enjoy my coffee, nor interested in what she waMores doing wrong. I would argue that the grind there needs changing (and I have got over 10 years coffee making experience behind me). I could clearly see that she was busy because she had a large table in but being busy isn’t a reason to not care about the quality of coffee you are making.

I will go back again when the boys are working and might eat there again however.

I have eaten meals at Brew on several occasions and have always received fantastic service and beautifully cooked and presented food.
At the weekend my family had a birthday party there with 26 guests and the food was superb, no waiting while others ate meals and friendly wait staff. Couldn’t fault anything. This was with one chef, a kitchen hand and 2 wait staff. Well done to all concerned. Would definitely rec commend Brew to others. Looking forward to my next meal there.

I get my daily coffee from Brew and have formed really neighbourly relationships with all the staff.

The coffee is excellent, the service is efficient and friendly.

Our office had our Christmas lunch at Brew and everyone was delighted with the service and food. it was well presented and of high standard. Its pretty hard to please 11 women..but with the variety of food on the menu we all left very happy
I am really pleased that Musellburgh has such a high quality cafe.

The coffee was delicious. However, my muffin was not very nice at all and it could have been offered to have been heated up.
There were two waitresses in the café when we went in and they both seemed more interested in their own conversations than with us. When wanting a glass of water with his food my brother went up to the counter and the girl looked at him like ‘what do you want?’ and was not very helpful at all.
Great deco and awesome wee location but word of advice- hire some better staff. Not impressed at all with them.

This was our first time at Brew. What a lovely meal. It was our wedding anniversary, but we just wanted a nice quiet meal free from the kids for a change. The meal came out very hot which was great. First of all we had breads and dips. All I can say about this is delicious. We both had the steak. This was cooked to our liking and I couldn’t fault it at all. The service was excellent and we look forward in returning.

We were very excited about our first meal at Brew, not only because it was our first night out without the kids in ages, but also as Brew is within easy walking distance of home and it was a rugby night (when frankly you’ve a higher chance of winning first division than finding a taxi).

My husband and I met another couple, friends of ours for dinner. Us Ladies both being vegetarians, when my friend arrived I greeted her with “you’ll be having the mushrooms” as this was the only veggie offering. The less I say about my own relationship with mushrooms the better, however luckily I sometimes eat fish, so on this occasion I chose the blue cod. It was delicious. (My friend enjoyed her fungus too).

Hubby had the steak – it was cooked well he said, yet the plate was padded out with a lot of mash, and the entire portion not quite ample enough to stop him eyeing up my chips hopefully. Our male friend also had the fish and chips, and we both had some leftover.

I should say that we started with a platter of bread and dips and the dip was delicious and very moreish. And we greedily finished with chocolate brownies – our friends wisely shared one, whereas Hubby and I got one each with no hope of finishing. Super yummy though!

What else can I say about Brew…. great decor… good staff, very friendly waiter. All in all a pretty great first experience. We’ll be back, but I hope there is another vegetarian option on the menu by then!

Four of us had a great meal at Brew Cafe on Saturday night, I enjoyed the delicious Portobello Mushrooms, the chicken and the steak pie looked great too. Lemon tart – yum! Hope to visit again next time I’m in Dunedin.
