What an amazing pub this is, had dinner here last week with my family and found the food to be amazing with lots of variety and an excellent kids menu. Highly recommended to anyone who wants fantastic food at reasonable prices in a great atmosphere. Excellent service and a great selection of wine and beer on offer.

My company held a customer Xmas function for our North Shore clients in the new lounge area of the restaurant/bar which was a total success and enjoyed by everyone. The manager was totally accommodating to our needs for the event including providing access to the flat panel HD screens to present material for the function. The food & staff service was excellent and pricing very reasonable compared to other function venues especially in the CBD. We will be using the British Isles again for functions and look forward to doing future business. A+

I have to say the British Isles is a hidden secret on the North Shore. A true “local” feel to it with fabulous staff. The food is always great, with the owner clearly very passionate and proud of the menu and the food that is delivered. Highly recommended for anyone wanting a pint, and smile and great homely food!

A local pub, and as one would expect friendly attentive staff. The food is excellent. Recent renovation of lounge area is fab. If you want the genuine pub experience, a pint poured right and meal that satisfies and exceeds expectations then this is the place!

I had my 50th birthday party at the British Isles and what a great experience that was! The Management and staff couldn’t do enough for us and everyone was so pleasant, lots of my friends commented on how they always had a smile on their face, which you don’t get often these days, and the FOOD was amazing it surpassed our expectations and there was so much of it, it just kept on coming all night.

I would like to say a big thank you to Uwe and his staff for making it such a memorable night.

Best wishes

ahh scoffers inn or so it was known 30 odd years ago , alas it didnt fare so well then either , when we wait outside for takeaway thai next door it seems absolutley packed particularly with person that lives 60 paces due north/20 west , anyway to add constructive critisism i just cant bring myself to dine for anything less than an A hygeine rating , why dont you lift your game ??

Sorry guys but you really need to lift your game. Like so many before me we did not enjoy our time here. I know smokers were outside but the inside smelt of the old pub. Stale smoke and old beer. I do feel for the owner, (who was pleasant enough with his service, it must be very hard to get new customers, keep a good staff, watch the prices but serve good food especially in this economic climate. No, I wasn’t expecting gourmet, but hoped that what the menu offered would hide some surprises. It did not. What was written, was what you got, or less. Most of what was offered was out of a packet, mostly frozen. The only thing that saved the meal was that the steak, although slightly overdone, was a nice piece of meat. Unfortunately it was drowned in a most awful gravy so no matter what topping you got it would all taste the same. Other meal was served with exactly the same mashed spud and veges covered in gravy. I agree with another diner who suggests The Kitchen Job would be recommended. I felt like Gordon Ramsey, trying to find something palatable out of an extremely basic menu that the chef must have been able to cook with 1 hand. Please, I know you have been there a while now, but you need to get into the next century. I can understand money may be tight but if there is not a major overhaul here the only patrons they will have are the teenagers looking for somewhere they can have their beer and a smoke.
My honest recommendation is: sure keep it as the British Pub style atmosphere, but modernize it, get rid of the frozen stuff, bring back some lighter (like salad) offerings and get back in the game. Now is the time to do it and make a killing over the summer. If you dont, the only thing dying here will be the investment. I honestly wish them the best, but if it stays as it is I cannot recommend it.

Comment from Uwe of British Isles Inn 20/09/2009
Thank You Sharon for your comments on your visit to The Isles. I suspect you are in Hospitality and feel strong about your visit to my Pub. I am sorry that you did not find any surprises on a local suburban pub menu. We have been running this menu for a while and…    More »

I mean, I go here often, for a beer and a side of fries with the boys. The food is good, the staff is friendly, i must admit it lacks an atmosphere, when sports events are’nt on, and yes i agree the student staff they hire is lazy not clearing the plates.

Note to owners: this is not south africa, kiwis expect alot more from a restaurant that has been such a focal point of their community for everyone alike. Give it the respect it deserves and don’t run it into the ground.

I think some of the previous reviewers have been a little unfair, especially as it reads as though you were all in the same party and by so many of you giving a bad review the odds are against them! I think the staff at The British Isles are fab, very friendly and funny! The food is good. It is a pub not a gourmet restaurant and look at the prices….. so reasonable. They need to work a bit on the presentation but you can’t deny that the food tastes yummy! You get what you pay for. If you want gourmet go and pay gourmet prices! All in all I like The British Isles, ALWAYS get a friendly welcome, a smile and a giggle!
