The catch phrase “your true country pub” is very apt as this is indeed a classic New Zealand country pub. Warm in atmosphere and welcome, you will feel right at home from the minute you walk in the door.

The Brown Pub, previously named New Zealand’s Best Country Hotel at the HANZ Awards for Excellence, is located right in the middle of town and offers the Main Bar, the Fireside Bar, a family restaurant, fresh, clean affordable accommodation and naturally a great time. We are also very proud to be awarded the Lion Breweries Beer Master award for demonstrating excellence in beer quality and presentation – six years running. So you know the beer is going to be good.

This cosy bar has been modernised and now boasts the pool table and a cosy log burner as well as tables if you fancy a romantic meal by the fire.

The restaurant menu has been spruced up for the summer season with new additions including some southern american style food like the Bourbon & Beef Steak and Chicken Parmesan, but still has some of the old favourites including the Roast of the Day, Brown Pub Lamb Burger, and our Famous Brown Pub Hoki .

Many of our dishes are already or can be prepared gluten-free, or vegetarian upon request. Please ask wait staff for details. We are always happy to adjust our dishes where possible to meet your dietary requirements.
