If you enjoy a really good beer and a pleasant eating experience in the heart of the city – do try it!
The last time I was there with a friend we ordered food for the first time – a simple Margherita pizza. The base was thick, doughy, pale and limp. The cheese appeared to be processed cheddar liberally covering the few sparsely scattered slices of tomato, and no sign of fresh basil was evident. Neither of us were pleased with the pizza, and we could not bring ourselves to finish it. To compare this pizza to a typical supermarket frozen pizza would be flattering to the Brühaus attempt.
We politely gave feedback to the waitress who appeared to be surprised at the criticism. Having read other reviews I find it hard to believe this was a unique experience for her.
Go for the beer, avoid the food.

But we need not have been, they have clearly made changes, even the sign on the footpath basically said “give us another chance” lol.
VERY GOOD LUNCH GOOD SERVICE GREAT DRINK RANGE!

Bruhaus has an awesome range of beer compared to many of the pubs around. They do run out from time to time, but I’m hopeful this is because they keep low quantities so the beer is fresher from tap.
I first went here when they opened and truly, their pizza and snacks were the most average pizza and snacks in all of Wellington. Really poor. However – they have recently upgraded the menu so I went back to try.
I had the steak under mushrooms with wedges and salad. For $15, it’s a bargain. Tasty seasoned wedges, fresh salad & a small but well flavoured steak (200g) complemented with juicy mushrooms. Medium-rare was delivered as asked. It wasn’t enough to fill me but for $15… total bargain.
My brother had the chicken. Unfortunately this seemed to be the short straw of the lot – he received a tiny serving, made worse by the small new potatoes. He ended up sharing the rest of our plates. The chicken was tasty, even if it only lasted 5 bites.
His girlfriend ordered the fish. This was a winner next to the steak, with a large tasty fillet and plenty of chips to go with it.
The people at the table next to us ordered pizza and it appeared a dramatic (more cheesy, finally!) improvement over the previous pizzas I’d had.
All in all – great atmosphere, friendly (if slightly slow/busy waiting staff at the bar), good seats and top beer. Would totally go back.
Just make sure you go with expectations of pub food – then you’ll be pleasantly surprised!

The salmon pizza and tiger prawns looked really appetizing with generous topping. Sirloin x2 was also cooked as ordered (medium rare).
However the pizza and steak meals both arrived cold. We were too busy too send back for even just a reheat.
The kitchen needs to improve service delivery. Hope you take heed of all the feedback.
But if you ARE going to put on $10 lunches, the you should make sure that a CBD worker can be in and out within 30mins. Everything on the $10 menu is a very quick, in, out, Bob’s your Uncle dunk in a fryer meal.
So today, my partner and I. 50mins to get the meal, staff whose attention we couldn’t grab, and then my partners stew is delivered stone cold, on a bed of stone cold “mashed spud” type substance.
Yeah, that’s the last time for me. Previously, my rare steak was so well done I could have resoled a gumboot.
That’s my 2 cents. (which is about what the meal SHOULD have cost today)

Each experience has been pleasant, i’ve sampled a good amount of beers, and had some ol’ favorites like Hofbrau. The staff seem very friendly – moreso than other bars, even some beer bar staff – which is of utmost importance, and they also seemed to be genuinely happy and have some degree of know how about the beers they were peddling. With regard to the food, our table had ordered a pizza before we got there, but there was a power outage which meant it couldn’t be cooked (hardly the bar’s fault), anyway after a couple rounds and a long wait, we were given a pizza on the house, due to the problem, and it wasn’t too bad. not great either. Good beer selection and nice surrounds, but it seems like the bar could up the level on the food a bit. nonetheless as good beer bar well worth checking out, should you feel the need to wet your whistle and demand something better than cheap swill.

Chicken sandwich = cold dry stonelike chicken, matched with concrete bread.
Beef sandwich = dry tough minute steak, with the same concrete slab bread.
Easily the worst lunch ever in Wellington. And the beer was warm.

Tried to order lunch at 11.20am but was told lunch menu did not start until 12pm, so breakfast only, but it depends on the chef, so the waitress checked, but was declined. 45 minutes later my breakfast menu order arrived. The “toast” was two slices of untoasted ciabatta, the “european sausages” was one sausage, but a nice one. The “potato hash” was two generic triangle hash browns, accompanied by a small portion of old looking dry mesculin. But worst of all is the bacon was not bacon at all, it was just lukewarm slices of shaved ham that left a gross after taste. My partner was equally disappointed with her meal which featured the worlds smallest serving of bland baked beans. We will never go there again and suspect we were overcharged.
Vegetarians should also be aware that there are no vegetarian dishes on the lunch menu. At 12pm a family tried to order from the lunch menu but was told sorry, the chef is now only making dishes from the “breakfast and dinner menu”. Avoid.
