If your not on the older side this would be a place to avoid as times before I have come in with family and they were lovely.

As a group of young people they were rude and after telling them so ended up in an argument. How about next time you run out of bacon you advise us when the meal comes. Also barking that we were not aware of certain conditions – not acceptable.

Haven’t been to this place for dinner for a while but went recently for brunch twice. The meals were great, reasonably priced and nicely decorated as well as filling. The all you can eat pancakes is a great deal although I was full after the first plate!

Sad to see Blaine has left, but there is another young guy who works there who has great manners and was attentive without being intrusive.

Buzz is extremely popular on Sunday mornings for pancake brunches, and I’ve yet to successfully score a table at this time. However, our luck was in on Friday night for dinner. We started by sharing a tapas serving of cajun chicken pieces. They weren’t spicy at all but still quite tasty. My crumbed fish of the day (tarakihi) was slightly overcooked but my partner’s red-wine drenched lamb was delicious. Our meals were well presented with reasonable portion sizes and the table service was efficient.

I always love going to the Buzz cafe always fantastic service. The lady that wrote a long story on her “bad experiance” at Buzz, I for one know that customer’s arn’t always right and i think many people would agree with me. I love Buzz and would recommend it to anyone anytime. Always love Blaine when he’s there….happier times.

Great place and great food. We decided to go for a desert night there and had their new desert platter. What a great idea! You get to try all the deserts on the menu and get to know what you like and what you don’t like. Great to get an idea of what you might order next time you go. I HIGHLY recommend the platter. Staff are good too especially the large guy who greets you with a smile and lovely welcome.

My husband and I are from Auckland and while in Wellington on business had the invitation from friends to go to a place called Buzz that they had heard about. Well it was great no idea why people keep saying the food is mediocre all 4 of us had delicious meals, even though my husband needed a special meal for health reasons, they were more than happy to accommodate us. I also agree that Blaine made our night and he deserves a great big raise!!!!!!!!!!

Regardless what the others think on this comment page – I thnk Buzz is very good.
My family goes there sometimes when we feel like eating out there for the pancakes and it tastes really yum and they come back to check often if we have done.
We are always warmly welcomed and it’s one of the nicer places in the Hutt to eat.

I went to Buzz cafe for the first time last night – friends had booked it. I’d never heard of the place, so looked on the Internet to find out a bit more about it. I must admit to being a little worried when I read some of the reviews on this site.

Our friends said that they’d never had any problems with the place and found it hard to believe that the staff would get annoyed with anyone.

I’m not sure where some of the negative reviewers went, but it bears no resemblance to the cafe I had dinner at last night.

Our table was booked for 8pm – I was a bit concerned given the 9pm-close horror stories – but,on arrival we were warmly greeted and the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating – even to the point of bringing every bottle of Pinot Noir to our table for us to choose one because the wine list was changing and the waiter wasn’t yet familiar with the new range.

We never felt rushed, the food was great (and plentiful!) and we ended up leaving around 10.45pm.

I guess if you are nice to people they are nice back.

I’ve been to Buzz a couple of times in the past and found it satisfactory but my experience there a couple of weeks ago was awful.
When I made my booking I told them we were seeing a 6.10pm movie (across the road) and I didn’t know how long it would be but that it might be around 8pm. The move took forever and we turned up at 8.30, only to be barred at the door by a big guy and harassed for turning up late. We didn’t know they closed at 9pm on a Saturday!
The entrees we ordered were very average and a jar of old el paso would have been a huge improvement on the salsa.
Immediately after receiving our entrees we were asked if we wanted to order dessert because they were about to close (8.35pm) and then if we wanted to order coffee because they were turning off the machine (8.40pm). Then they started cleaning up around us. We got the picture and told them so as we left. We were told it was our fault for turning up late. We were also told it was because of the “slow down.” I imagine this place will be slowing down to a close if they don’t improve their food and service, particularly given their prices.

Well where to start. We were a table of 14 booked in to celebrate xmas. For the whole of our 3 hour “experience” not once were we approached and asked if we would like to order drinks, or our water filled/(In fact, we had to request the water, along with trying to get any attention to order drinks. When one of our ladies asked the owner if she could order a drink he said yes, and pointed to the bar…What happend to sure madam, what can i get you?. If we wanted to go to the local bar we would have gone to one, we foolishly thought we were in a cafe and would get service. The chefs response when one of our diners found a hair in her creme brulee was pitiful, his response was only outdone by the waitress who poked me in the arm telling me to return to my seat, and then when I asked for the owner or manager to come to our table so we could discuss the lack of service we had been experiencing and the “hair” in the food. To say the managers attitude was obnoxious is a total understatement. What cafe owner in their right mind, yells at patrons, tells them they dont know anything about service, that he cant do anything about the service, that he will take the staff out the back and dress them down and yell at them if that will make us happy. He then went on to tell my boss that she had a bad attitude, and had been in a hissy all night! To say we were shocked is not even close. Then the debacle when it came to paying, and low and behold another member of our party discovered a hair in her desert!…and the person on the till was going to charge us for the pleasure of having hair for desert!. Not once did we recieve an apology for the “hair” in the food, the lack of service and the total rudeness of the owner of the cafe. Our sincerest apologies to Adamina, the lovely waitress we had…we hope you did not cop the blame for the total lack of professionalism displayed by your employer and chefs….Since when had the rule the customer is always right changed within the service and hospitality industry? I can only surmise that people who have written glowing reviews about this hole are members of the owners family….or at the very least have not had the owner yelling at them. We will be notifying the Health Department about the issues of health and cleaniness we experienced tonight. We had the biggest table in the cafe tonight, spending close to $800, and to experience such disgusting treatment you can bet we will be placing our “reviews” of this “cafe” and its owner on any forum we can find.
I am sure the entertainment book writers will be interested in our “experience” at the “cafe”

My wife and I have been back to Buzz a few times, and whilst its not the best place, its not too shabby. The staff are always really good and friendly too.

We tried the All you can eat Pancakes last weekend – after avoiding them for a long time, and unfortunately staff were really slow to come back around to clear plates and bring out the next lot – but cant complain too much.

The food isn’t outstanding, but it is very edible with a range of options for those who are health conscious and those who aren’t. The selection of smoothies that they do is also a nice variation on the usual fare.

Its good to have somewhere in Lower Hutt thats not part of a chain of quick fix coffee places serving brown grainy water as a poor excuse for coffee.

Have to update this because we recently had dinner there for the first time. The meal, as expected, was beautiful – but I ordered dessert, pavlova strawberry stack and when it arrived, I was surprised to find it wasn’t actually pavlova but a meringue. Now I know that essentially they’re almost the same thing, but they’re not. This is NZ and you shouldnt have pavlova on a menu only to serve a meringue! Thats sinful!!

Good restaurant comparable (if not better) than well-known restaurants in Wellington CDB. Definitely a must-try. Good food and service.
