Sad to see Blaine has left, but there is another young guy who works there who has great manners and was attentive without being intrusive.

My family goes there sometimes when we feel like eating out there for the pancakes and it tastes really yum and they come back to check often if we have done.
We are always warmly welcomed and it’s one of the nicer places in the Hutt to eat.

Our friends said that they’d never had any problems with the place and found it hard to believe that the staff would get annoyed with anyone.
I’m not sure where some of the negative reviewers went, but it bears no resemblance to the cafe I had dinner at last night.
Our table was booked for 8pm – I was a bit concerned given the 9pm-close horror stories – but,on arrival we were warmly greeted and the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating – even to the point of bringing every bottle of Pinot Noir to our table for us to choose one because the wine list was changing and the waiter wasn’t yet familiar with the new range.
We never felt rushed, the food was great (and plentiful!) and we ended up leaving around 10.45pm.
I guess if you are nice to people they are nice back.

When I made my booking I told them we were seeing a 6.10pm movie (across the road) and I didn’t know how long it would be but that it might be around 8pm. The move took forever and we turned up at 8.30, only to be barred at the door by a big guy and harassed for turning up late. We didn’t know they closed at 9pm on a Saturday!
The entrees we ordered were very average and a jar of old el paso would have been a huge improvement on the salsa.
Immediately after receiving our entrees we were asked if we wanted to order dessert because they were about to close (8.35pm) and then if we wanted to order coffee because they were turning off the machine (8.40pm). Then they started cleaning up around us. We got the picture and told them so as we left. We were told it was our fault for turning up late. We were also told it was because of the “slow down.” I imagine this place will be slowing down to a close if they don’t improve their food and service, particularly given their prices.
I have been back several times now and totally enjoyed each meal (best ribs in Wgtn) the steaks are also fantastic, just like the service – keep up the good work.

I am sure the entertainment book writers will be interested in our “experience” at the “cafe”
We tried the All you can eat Pancakes last weekend – after avoiding them for a long time, and unfortunately staff were really slow to come back around to clear plates and bring out the next lot – but cant complain too much.
The food isn’t outstanding, but it is very edible with a range of options for those who are health conscious and those who aren’t. The selection of smoothies that they do is also a nice variation on the usual fare.
Its good to have somewhere in Lower Hutt thats not part of a chain of quick fix coffee places serving brown grainy water as a poor excuse for coffee.
Have to update this because we recently had dinner there for the first time. The meal, as expected, was beautiful – but I ordered dessert, pavlova strawberry stack and when it arrived, I was surprised to find it wasn’t actually pavlova but a meringue. Now I know that essentially they’re almost the same thing, but they’re not. This is NZ and you shouldnt have pavlova on a menu only to serve a meringue! Thats sinful!!

Well done with winning the BESTEST RESTAURANT
Did you eat at this restaurant? Have an opinion to share?

As a group of young people they were rude and after telling them so ended up in an argument. How about next time you run out of bacon you advise us when the meal comes. Also barking that we were not aware of certain conditions – not acceptable.
