I love this cafe! The only place we go when over visiting family, We even drive through Bethlehem on our way to the Mount now to enjoy brekie and stock up on goodies to share for afternoon tea. Last week the man had a hearty and perfectly cooked beef stew and I loved the special, a prawn and pancetta salad, it was simple and perfect. Their bakers are very talented and the range of sweets is the best I have come across, lammingtons, beautiful brioche and I always bring a brownie back to Hamilton to get me through the week! Very funky decor always something interesting to look at! Even when this big cafe is packed the service is fast and friendly!

Amazing!Warm and comfortable. Ordered the light breakfast- poached eggs- nicely done, watercress, pesto, sundried tomatos, caramalised onions on toasted bread. Had a flatwhite coffee- a double shot in a tulip cup- how it should be. Price was very reasonable considering the quality of the products.

When I travel from Whakatane, this is the only place I want to have coffee – Fairtrade coffee is VERY important to me. I’m impressed with the notice board offering free coffee in exchange for local fruit. Good on you guys for your ethics and support of local produce! A few other good points to consider – Palmers has an excellent playground for children, a rare find outside of McD, AND it is excellently situated for a break after a strenuous hike at Te Puna Quarry.
By the way, the coffee and food are great! I’ve never had a lion’s face drawn on a Latte anywhere else! Barista with great style!

Similar experience to previous review. Friday October 10 – my special birthday breakfast. Staff abrupt and unwelcoming, ordered eggs benedict, for some reason it came with spinach too – even though eggs florintine is on the menu. Eggs arrived hard poached so asked the waitress to return the meal, she was very unresponsive but did as I asked. New dish came with eggs raw and muffins soaked in water and the hollandaise bland, needless to say I didn’t finish my second meal. I told a staff member about the how bad both meals were and was told he would pass it on to the chef. The coffee is good but the service is so underwhelming that after such a bad experience I won’t be returning which is a shame as it very close to home.

Salesperson Padraig B invoice 48538.
1 No Sunday papers to read.
2 Coffee in small cups and very bitter arriving 2/3 way though meal.
3 Meal; Eggs Benedict,$16 asked if the bacon could be substitute for salmon and charged extra $2 Small eggs poached in water without vinegar added. Eggs not drained prior to placing on small toasted muffin which then made the muffin wet and soggy. B/sauce piped from plastic bottle without buttery taste. Will not return
