Just stopped in for a early morning coffee kick start, staff were friendly enough, coffee was nice and strong, but what’s with the Danish??? Made of dry flakey puff pastry over cooked and insulting to any Danish pastry I had in the past. I suggest you take it off your menu or have another crack at making them.

I was in a party of 8 that dined here last year(2010). We booked 4 days in advance for a Sunday evening. Staff were not particularly welcoming. On receiving my meal of a very small portion of steak, I asked if vegetables were coming. The waitress explained that vegetables were extra, but never mind they had run out! I had dined there previously with mixed results, but NEVER again. The staff get a fair bit of stick at this cafe, but I don’t think they get any training. However smiles are free!

Second visit to this cafe. Very disappointed in the service provided to our family.
Our family of 5 (3 children under 5) were seated at a table for 6. Our food arrived and we were in the middle of eating when a staff member insisted that we move to a table for 4 to allow our table to be used for a large pre booked tourist group.
Despite registering our protest at having to move, the waitress insisted that we stop eating and move to the new table. Any parent out there knows what an effort it is to keep kids focussed at meal time, and this was completely disruptive and unecessary. We felt that Cafe de Paris did not value our custom. Food was average as well. We will not be returning.

Well, golly gosh! What do you expect? This is not a silver service inner city cafe, but is an outstanding restaurant to find in a small town. We’ve been here before and we’ve never been disappointed, and we certainly weren’t this time either. The food was excellent and the service was helpful and friendly. Chloe, our waitress, was just fine. We’d said that we would have a glass of wine later in the meal and, just as we thought it was time, she appeared with the wine list without being asked. Overall it was a most pleasant evening and we will certainly return.
This restaurant has to rate as the worst one i have every been too. Myself and two others were there on 04/01/09. My work mates had the white bait entree special which was a poorly designed meal with no substance to it what so ever. Following that we all ordered the rib-eye steak from there brief menu. One was ordered to be rare and the other two were ordered to be med rare. They all came out well done. Being that i am a head chef myself and the fact that there was only about ten people seated in the restaurant at the time, I found it amazing that an award winning restaurant could not put good food out and then when it was complained about to the staff they could not even offer the same meal as a replacement as they had run out. As for the staff there was 4 front of house staff on and they seemed to be every where accept for look after their customers. An example would be bringing our drinks out before we finish our entree. If I was the management of this place, I would have a serious look at your investment and also if you have a open kitchen where customers can see in i would have my kitchen staff wear some sort of hat as hair in the food is not a good thing as we found out… in closing this is a bad bad bad restaurant that should be avoided at all costs.
I went to Cafe de Paris while taking my mother out for lunch for her birthday on my annual visit home to NZ for Xmas from Melbourne.
When we arrived they have inevitably sold out of two of their specials by 1:30pm, and I remember this to have been the same when I visited the year before. For such a small menu selection they need to ensure they have enough stock to provide specials that are available throughout their lunch period, or customers are left with very little choice.
Overall, the food was fine. The seafood chowder was tasty and served with nice crusty bread and the chicken salad was tasty. But the service was APPALLING. There was no smile, no apology for selling out of the special, no care. We sat down at a filthy table that had clearly not been wiped all day and had to ask twice for it to be wiped, and then it was done begrudgingly. Our order came out wrong, we were served soup of the day instead of the chowder and once again the attitude was that having to take this back and provide what we had in fact ordered was an inconvenience.
The coffee was nice and the young boy who brought them out to us (who I think actually worked in the kitchen) was far friendlier than the “experienced” front of house staff.
Pick up your game. Your OK food and nice coffee is not enough to make up for your surly, poorly trained staff.

I visited the cafe for dinner, the waiter was average at best rahter slow with drinks and taking order. He was more interested in the young blonde waitress, than serving the customers. Food was excellent, but the staff where a major disapointment. Slow and too interested in each other. The coffee was terrible.
I found the service at Cafe De Paris excellent. The waitresses were very friendly and helpful the food was amazing and the cafe looked really nice and modern. I would recommend to anyone visiting Hokitika to go and pay the cafe a visit.
I have eaten at this cafe i would have to say that i was disappointed with the whole dinning experience my order was botched up and when my coffee finally arrived i burnt my mouth on my coffee, its such a shame as the place looks lovely i guess maybe i got them on a bad day sort it out guys sorry will have to be very hungry to go back and as for the coffee never again…….
Our visit to Cafe de Paris was for a birthday gathering for old and new friends. When we arrived we had to wait for about 15 minutes before we had to engage a waitress, we had to ask for wine list as we were not offered drinks until we had to ask for a menu. When we had left the table to ask for a waitress to take drink orders a waitress came to he table to take our meal orders (not drinks).
We would have liked to have been made welcome and not as if we were imposing and rushing us and taking up their time, it would have been nice to have been made to feel at least a little important and that we were welcome to spend our money here. However the food was excellent and the service to the table was ok. at the end of the meal it seemed that the staff were standing around where we could see them as if to say hurry up we want to go home, it was uncomfortable for most of us as there were some elderly folk with us. I will go back again as I am sure this service will improve.
