On a bulstery cold day, Cafe Medici was a warm haven of great food and brilliant wine. I think everyone else in Martinborough had the same idea, so it was busy but the staff managed really well. Zingy flavours and great presentation with the food, interesting wine by the glass and a really nice, relaxed ambiance. No one seemed in a hurry to leave. My haloumi salad was the best I’ve ever tasted, packed with interesting, beautifully balanced flavours. We’ll be back – this time for dinner.

Stopped in for a late Sunday lunch with Mum. We both had fantastic local wine and the smoked chicken and bacon sandwich with crispy shoestring fries underneath.
The food was delicious, filling, and well-priced and the service was friendly and efficient. A great experience all round.
Also home of the best soy mocha anywhere in New Zealand.

Can’t speak highly enough about this place. Great wait staff, great food, great wine. It’s the first place I book when I come across to Martinborough. The last time I was there was one of the great dining experiences I’ve had. Admittedly the company was fantastic with some old friends but the wine and the food were perfect. I had the grilled rib eye steak on the bone and it was one of the most succulent pieces of meat I have eaten, dripping with delicious Cafe de Paris butter. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it. Make sure you get a bottle of Vynfields Pinot Noir while you’re there too…one of the best value choices on the list.
Early in November 2011 I went to Cafe Medici with 2 friends for an evening meal. The food was good but the service was criminally slow.
Then on 29 November 2011 I bought the GrabOne deal for a $50 food and beverage voucher at Cafe Medici. The voucher was to be used by 21 January 2012.
I intended to use the voucher as a treat after the Christmas rush, but what with going away for Christmas, then having family come to stay with me, the voucher was forgotten until it finally emerged a week before the expiry date. At that time I thought I could use it on 21 January for lunch, but that day the person I was going to treat to lunch was unexpectedly out of town. I phoned Cafe Medici to book for dinner instead and was told that they were fully booked for dinner. When I explained about losing the voucher they suggested I come in between 4 and 6 for a platter. As this didn’t suit me I offered the coupon to a friend who phoned to book for a platter to be served at 5:45 and was told that the restaurant was full. My friend asked if the offer could be extended and was told that GrabOne would not let them extend the offer. The next day (Sunday) my friend phoned GrabOne to discuss what happened and was informed that it was up to the cafe whether or not they chose to extend the offer. The help desk person also said they would phone Cafe Medici to explain this, and that we should call the cafe a little later to discuss the issue, once they had been called by GrabOne. The next day (Monday) I went into Cafe Medici and asked to speak to the manager – he looked at the voucher then asked me to wait while he discussed the issue with someone else (presumably the owner). The manager then told me that GrabOne would not let him extend the voucher, so I told him about the previous phone call to GrabOne. The manager repeated that GrabOne would not let him extend the voucher – so it was obvious that I was not going to get anywhere with him. I left saying that I would take the matter further.
So I know I left it until the last minute BUT I did try to use the voucher twice on the last day. I now feel ripped off – this has left me with bad feelings towards Cafe Medici. I certainly won’t be going back there, nor will I recommend it to any friends or visitors.

One day deals are a 50% discount on normal prices and are amazing deals, but they come with conditions. The first condition with regard to this deal was that it was for evening dining only and it had a 7 week expiry. We are very sorry that this lady could not get…

Had two different meals at this little lovely spot on a Girly trip in August. Wow – waiting staff were excellent, food at lunch was great. Next day brekky, all good, a little slower on the service, but on the whole a very nice little spot. Will be back on our next trip

We moved to Martinborough 6 months ago from England and after trying all of the cafes in the town have made this our regular. Great coffee and the excellent food is well worth the short wait when the cafe is busy.

I’ve been in the industry for over 20 years, here and over in the UK. I find it hard to find places to go where I don’t “pick” at the quality of food or service.
Love this place and always go here when in Martinborough. Enough said really!!

I have frequented Cafe Medici for several years while visiting Martinborough and last week nine of us had Sunday brunch. The kiwiana/country artwork adorning the walls provide great conversation starters and add to Medici’s atmosphere. Several of our group had the Spanish breakfast while I ordered blueberry pancakes, a cute stack of six half-sized pancakes served with sliced banana. Apart from one person who had to wait an extra fifteen minutes for her bacon and eggs (on top of our thirty minute wait), our food and service was satisfactory.

medici has become my martinborough ‘local’ with its great Supreme coffee and fantastic salads. The staff are friendly and they now have a toy box!
Great service and fantastic coffee. We really enjoyed our trip to Martinborough because of the great food we enjoyed here. A must do!

Medici was warm and welcoming and coped with our big party like true professionals. The food was fresh and delicious. In fact the atmosphere and food was so good our party of 15 went back for breakfast the next day. I highly recommend this cafe.

Sad to see this place has changed hands. We used to often stop here for lunch and especially looked forward to an iced chocolate. We came in today and what a disappointment. A boring menu now and very dry, uninteresting food. The iced chocolate was the worst disappointment. We have been here countless times over the last 10 years and always looked forward to it, but we won’t be back.
