Have been there on three separate occassions, each time have not been served yet been the only customer waiting for service.Only one staff member and after noticing a waiting customer would go and make themselves look busy elsewhere rather than serving intending customers.Perhaps if one was to dress up to the nines, and scratch the roof of their nose on the ceiling they might expect better service??Appalling!

coffee is over priced and not the usual supreme barista standard. have bought cake for the kids there – they like them – but the whole supermarket entrance thing is off putting when it comes to a sit down meal. have had a wine with mum outside on a summer evening and that was nice. the food cabinet is so stuffed it is a bit off putting – shame the cooked food is unavailable after 2pm and the service is a bit slow – maybe they will revisit for summer. always seems to be busy though.

We had a big breakfast at Mondo Cafe and it was really nice and cooked to perfection – nice atmosphere, good cook, pleasant staff and good service
It’s difficult to believe that this award winning place is a cafe in a supermarket entrance.
The coffee is very, very good and the iced coffee is almost like a dessert. The choice and quality of cakes is mind numbing (Yes, that’s me holding up the queue trying to decide what to have!)
There is a good choice of Cafe style food on the menu, filled sandwiches and rolls, salads and a daily special as well. The all day breakfast is the biggest in HB with steak, eggs, bacon, fried potatoes, toast, the works, crammed onto the plate.
If you’re here on your own there are current quality magazines and daily papers to read while you sip your latte, no sticky 10 year old Reader’s Digest books here.
I have two gripes. There is very little veggie choice in the filled roll/sandwich section (some days none at all, which is annoying if you don’t want a full meal) and they insist on covering the warm muffins in dredgings of icing sugar. Not a pretty look when leaving, looking like you’ve had a fight in a flour sack. BUT these weeny downsides are personal preferences and not enough to keep us away.
Lunchtimes can get busy here, but don’t be disheartened when you see the queue. Mondo is the place to go and grab a decent coffee or bite to eat at any time of day.
