Faulty Towers would be an understatement.
Pumpkin soup was served lukewarm waited 1 hour to get, main courses took 2.5 hours to produce with no apology. Vegetables with main were bland and tasteless and sweetcorn must have been cooked at least 3 times and smelt foul.Service was non existent and the waitress did not know who ordered what meal and one of our table was made to have a main which they did not order.I and my friends eat out a lot in Wellington and would rank this resturant as the worst. As for the toilets watered down soap was supplied, no toilet paper replaced when used and one small hand towel for 50 odd people eating there on Saturday night.

I took my family here for dinner and we all had a wonderful time. The service was excellent. The all-in-one waitress/chef/manager was very helpful and pleasant. She even helped my son with his German.
The food was superb, with all three of us clearing our plates. The veal was cooked to perfection.
A great restaurant with a great atmosphere. I would not hesitate to recommend it.

Before moving to NZ I always enjoyed visiting Germany and the food suits my carnivorous nature. At Cafe Munich I found totally authentic German food, with good bottled beer making a great change from NZ’s usual fizzy pop. Everything was cooked to perfection, and the meats were high quality. The dumplings are a delight, and so long as you enjoy sauerkraut you should be OK! The service was good, we felt attended to without being crowded. It might not be the cheapest restuarant in Lower Hutt, but the prices are not unreasonable, and the ambience calm and pleasant. It was perhaps a little cold, but we had arrived not long after opening time.
Food, Staff & Atmosphere all EXCELLENT.
Another great social club night out.
Costumes really added to the atmosphere and were very simple & reasonably priced to create and add to the already great atmosphere…
For the Ladies: long blonde wigs (we plaited the front), a apron (worn as waisted one), a serviette-material square, folded on an angle to make a scarf Price-Busters & Coin-Save type shops…
For the Men: white shirt, shorts to the knee(Denim how easy), braces and boots out of the wardrobe. Add a hat, a feather, long white socks with stripes around the top, pin badges on the brace’s & hat, also from the Price-Buster/Coin-Save type shops.
PS:
My meal: Schweinebraten
Pork roasted with herbs, spices & beer. Served with Bavarian-style dumpling, red cabbage & pork gravy.
- simply divine (yum)!
Hubby’s: Schweinshaxe *
A magnificent Bavarian-style crispy roasted pork shank .
Served on a bed of freshly prepared sauerkraut & potatoes.
A dish to satisfy the biggest appetite.

Excellent value for food and money. Authentic German cuisine – I have spent a lot of time in Germany and can say this honestly. Ample portions and plenty of dishes to choose from. Cosy, homey atmosphere, with customers even joining in singing to the music.
We were looking forward to eating a good hearty meal here. Unfortunately the meals were very very bland, I could have cooked a better meal at home. I ordered veal schnitzel. The three tiny bits of schnitzel came with plain steamed carrots, cauli and broccoli with fried wedge potatoes – that’s it no sauces included – nothing! My friend got the mixed meat dish which was 2 small sausages, 1 black pudding sausage, 2 tiny bits of pork or something, about 2 tablespoons of sauerkraut and the same plain steamed veges and potatoes plus a very very bland tasting doughboy which he couldn’t eat. The meals were definitely not filling enough. We wouldn’t recommend the place to anyone.

I have been to Cafe Munich about 4 times and it’s never let me down, great if your wanting a big meal and a change from Thai or Indian. I have been to Munich and the food at Cafe Munich is really authentic and there’s something for everybody. Recommend a German beer and the Goulash or Hunerbrust Jaegerart!

The meals and desserts were delicious, the atmosphere took us away to Bavaria , but what made it so special was the absolutely charming waitress, Claudia.
Her service couldn’t have been better…and we were sorry to leave in the end. A must a visit for such wonderful waitressing.
