We’ve probably been to Polo about four times for brunch over the last six months. If it wasn’t for the fact that it’s about a 20 minute drive from our house we’d probably be there every other week.

Their coffee is delicious, both their counter and menu food is always incredible (highly recommend their beans with smoked ham and herb crumb and caramel brownie) and their service is always much faster than you expect given how busy they always are.

Probably our favourite place for brunch in Wellington. And they have highchairs and toys for little people :)

This place is fantastic. I ordered the fish and it was cooked to perfection. Others at the table ordered the pork and steak and they all spoke positively of their dishes. We shared the cheese sticks and olives as a starter and both were nice. I had a chocolate mousse for dessert. The dessert was very large and decadent and the cheese platter was huge, easily enough for 2-3 people to share.

One of the best dinners I have ever eaten. Dessert tasting plate was divine and more than enough for two. High quality food, good sized portions. Will be interested to return for brunch to see if it matches up. Hopefully they will do another three course meal voucher deal!

At midday on a sunny Saturday, Cafe Polo was busy both inside and out. I was first drawn to great selection of counter food with innovative versions of classics, eg sundried tomato and feta scones – yum! The blackboard and brunch/lunch menus are extensive. I settled for basic poached eggs on sourdough with a side of free range bacon while my friends chose chicken and fish meals. Our food arrived really quickly, even given how busy the cafe was, and was delicious. I enjoyed the coffee and would happily go back.

Went for Burger Wellington after a friend (vegetarian) suggested it would be a go as our guest was keen to visit the Weta Cave.
For $18.50……I was astonished!

Is this price reflective of the clientele they imaging being a captive market out here in “Wellywood”??

Not happy with it at all. No sides, no flavour & no imagination. Zany Zeus ricotta and goat’s cheese fritter Was bland. Spiced beetroot was weak. Hummus and toasted walnuts (Minuscule amount) in a sesame seed bun, with onion rings and hand-cut truffled fries (3 on the plate!?)

The Eastern Suburbs are being taken for a ride!

6 for Dinner one Thurs night. Great venue, friendly staff. Meal was superb and all reasonably priced.
Had two entrees which was sufficient and dessert, of course.
Will call again.
Eastern suburbs – try your local cafes.
Saves driving into the city.

Amazing variety of food for a cafe in the suburbs. Food is fresh and tasty, and the cabinet is always stocked with yummy treats. Kiddy friendly with a menu that caters for them too. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Polo, you serve your locals well!

Love it! The right mix of great food and relaxed atmosphere for a suburban restaurant. Food you would expect at a fine dinning place but you can take the kids. Great menu. The best produce. Awesome fresh seafood always. Pricing while expensive not over the top. No need to go into town if you live close by. World class suburban restaurant. Fantastic staff, helpful, knowledge and trained.

In my opinion, Cafe Polo is the perfect suburban evening out, without the hassle and drama of heading into the city. Yet there is no compromise on quality – the food and service is as good as it gets in Wellington – without price tag that comes with inner-city fine dining.

They change the menu regularly to keep it interesting and their philosophy of using fresh and local ingredients is always evident. Everything is always cooked perfectly. I have never had a bad meal yet and we eat there at least once or twice a month (evening service).

For the purpose of providing a balanced review, I must mention the only thing I can think of that is a tiny negative: The wine list could be longer and possibly a tad more sophisticated, although the wines they do keep are generally good.

Dave is a culinary wizard, and Valentina runs an amazing business – great team and great restaurant. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good night out in the suburbs.

I have heard good things about this restaurant so my wife and myself (among a few others) went there tonight and were quite surprised and in a most pleasant way.
The entrees of which I had clams were cooked perfectly and the others were just as tantalising.
The main courses were cooked to perfection but the most outstanding part of the evening was the service.
I will not go into what we had to eat as it was beautiful but the service was just as outstanding.
It is difficult to cook good food but is more difficult to find good people to present it and make your customers feel good while being there and this restaurant does just that, food and staff wise.
The highest rating, for a restaurant that deserves nothing less.
Go and you will certainly not be dissapointed.
