The waitstaff are very inattentive. I feel badly for the well meaning owner. She shouldn’t have to work with that. They don’t seem to worry about drinks.
The food portions vary too much in size. My friend ordered a dinner quesadilla from the mains menu. It was a feeble snack. She had to eat and be hungry as I overate.
The heating is abysmal. Even sitting near the fire it wasn’t efficient enough.
Cafe Rue could have a winning formula, they just need to pull their socks up on a few things.

On the day that we dined the service was definitely NOT up to scratch. The waitress never took drink orders, so I tried to politely (no yelling or finger snapping or anything like that) to get her attention once and she ignored me. Finally got her attention on the second time round. She seemed pissed off that I was bothering her.
The food took forever to arrive (45mins to be exact). The meals were quite badly staggered, with some of us most of the way through our meals before the last plate arrived. Food was underwhelming… the full breakfast came with supermarket white bread, like tip tops or something. Eggs were undercooked in that meal as well. Everything else was very gluggy.
Staff never returned to check if food was OK, or offer more drinks.
Have to say, considering that there are much better options close by, you can avoid this place without losing anything.
it was a bit quiet probably because we went during the week but that only ment we didn’t have to wait long for our food.
We loved it and will come back!
My order of Fillet Steak with quail was nice (although smallish and i had to eat a loaf of bread when i got home), but my girlfriend ordered the Blue cod special. Which unfortunately (not stated on the chalked up special’s menu) arrived wrapped in bacon…
Honestly Chicken wrapped in bacon, thumbs up. Beef in bacon, thumbs up. But fish!? Did i mention shes a vegetarian… Not to mention it wasn’t grilled but looked like it just came out of the microwave. The fish was also tough, indicating it was indeed not ‘fresh’.
Overpriced, rubbish food and the noisy pop-electro sounded like the proprietor stole one of KC’s mixed tapes in their liquidation sale.
