I just had my wedding reception here and loved every second of it! Greg and Sue worked with us every step of the way and helped us plan our wedding from Auckland with no stress and the day went without a hitch. Our 112 guests all came away very happy and raving about such a relaxed and beautiful day.

We had the best steak we have had in a very long time. Good food takes time if you want it to be right and a little wait is very worthwhile. Service so friendly and accommodating. Nothing too much trouble. I don’t understand some of the negative reviews here at all. We would come again for sure. Steak is as good as you get anywhere.

I just had to share our experience at the Steak N Ale house. A large group of us came down for the Doobie Brothers concert and found this place to hang at the 1st night we arrived. The meals were exceptional, the staff were very friendly and accommodating. We were that impressed with the whole experience that we asked if we could book the outside garden area as we had more people coming the night after the concert. The owner was more than accommodating and we enjoyed another great night of fantastic food and hospitality. Given the amount of people that was there our meals arrived in a reasonable time, the steak was superbly cooked and the garlic bread is the best. Definitely an enjoyable experience.

Very very disappointing experience, no customer service skills at all, grunted at, food thrown over the table, we waited for 1 hour for our meals and when we asked what the wait was we were not given an answer and the man just stormed off, it is common courtesy to apologize, or to come and let the table know there is such a long wait. And the food did not make up for the bad service either.

Went for a good pub meal and that’s exactly what we got! We were picked up and dropped home in the courtesy van operated by the owner,who also works in the pub. The staff were all very friendly and obliging especially to our gluten intolerant friends; they went out of their way to make sure everything was ok for them.
Our meals were excellent and the price for the whole evening for drinks and meals, was very reasonable! We’d definitely go back again!

Worst Experience ever. We went for the lunch with family. Only two of the meals arrived after 1 hour. Found plastic packaging in my 4 year olds orange juice glass and was told it was no big deal. We asked where the other four meals were. They told us they had been forgotten. We asked for our money and left. It is obvious that the owners are to tight to employ extra staff over the holiday period, as they were trying to do everything. The place itself looks good but lacks in management and would have lost a lot of custom for the sake of hiring a few locals casually of the peak time.

Worst experience i have had. To begin with served by the rudest man, then waited 1 hour for our meals to come out, when we asked what the delay was he responded ‘what delay’ and walked off, after having a glass of water and a bowl of mushrooms thrown over the table. The man misheard our order and the blamed it on us, we had no apology the man then came back and said the hour wait was because the steak was ‘well done’ however it came out medium rare. Everything about this experience was negative, no one there has customer service skills.

We dined here recently for lunch and had to wait an hour for our meals. The garlic bread was thrown on the table & when the main meal finally arrived the order was mucked up. 2 mains when we ordered 1 & we were charged for it. The lady refunded us but dropped the money on the table with no apology. The steak meal was just ok but the hamburger was cold by the time I got it.
The staff were very unfriendly here & they could up their dress code.

Dined here tonight and it was OK but not exceptional. Quiet time of the year and menu choices were very limited and the service was not warm and friendly, unfortunately. Dessert choices were not enticing so we went elsewhere. The restaruant is a little out of the way so it needs to draw people in and it is not one I would rush back to. Little more than truck stop food!

We discovered this bar back in 2010 and enjoyed the meal, we returned again this year and ended up going back 3 nights for dinner, the atmosphere is great if you want to just sit and relax with no loud music etc you can talk to your partner easily. All staff were friendly and the steak was to die for soo tender, and my husband couldn’t get enough of the chips, the best hot chocolate I could find in Whitianga. our meals here were very good , we never had high expectations for the service as we as well as the other reviewer here knows its a pub , in my experiences (here and all other “pubs”)we always have to approach them not the other way around , meal sizes were generous as is normally the case at a “pub” , they were tasty without being a fine dining dinner , if you go here make sure you take the fact that its a “pub” into consideration then you wont be let down
