5 stars for food, 1 star for service! From the moment I rang, the man behind the bar had it in for me! There was only one other couple in the whole restaurant and when I said “excuse me” when the waiter walked past (to ask for salt and pepper) he looked at me and said SHHHHHHH! Then he put my husbands food far away from me and said “so she can’t get it” and then gave my friends wife a free glass of wine and made me pay for mine! Then he refered to me ‘spending all my time in the kitchen’ 3 times! I don’t get it…. Sorry for wanting salt and pepper! The food though was excellent!!! I would definitely go back

Just writing to say how disappointed we are that Canvas is closed.

We were given a $100 dinner voucher before Christmas but could never get an answer via telephone so we could book as requested on the voucher.

We had been here years ago and found it great however it seemed to have a new manager as when we were going to try this restaurant again a few months ago we found the restaurant manager so objectionable we left. We have recently tried it again – the manager had improved and had learnt some manners. The food was divine – lovely spot, nice waitresses. Would definitely go back

We had previously spoke about going to Canvas for many weeks prior our reservation there, so we were eagerly awaiting our meal.
On arrival everything was fine and our waiter showed us to our booth which was nice and tucked away, i ordered a beer and the waiter said they didn’t have any in stock, ok i thought i will order another type instead, then we ordered our wine which to our disappointment they didn’t have in stock either, the rather up-front waiter took upon himself to open some other bottle he thought we might like instead, this wine turned out to be ok .
As for the meal it was tasteless and un-inspiring, both waiters were rushed off there feet, and we couldn’t help but notice it.
So it was very average i certainly wont recommend Canvas to anyone nor will i be going back.

We attended the Bastille Day Degustation evening and cannot say enough about how wonderful it was. The food was presented beautifully, was incredibly tasty and each course was matched with a lovely wine. The waiting staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The per head price was very reasonable for the quality of the food and the fact that it included the wines. I hope Canvas do another of these evenings soon, as I will definitely be there!

We went to canvas for lunch today. The meal we ordered was very fulling and quite plain. There was one problem we had is that we went there to order eggs Benedict as i checked the menu before we left, when we got there this particular meal wasn’t on their menu and neither were other various meals, i mentioned this to the nice friendly man who served us and he told me that the eggs Benedict was a mothers day special, however Ive just rechecked their menu and i see its still the same menu that i saw this morning. Good food and friendly service through out..

I love this place! I have been twice in the last couple of months and had the same thing just because it is just SOO awesome! Highly recommend the duck and can not describe how amazing the Lemon Posset dessert is… you must try it yourself!!

Unfortunately there is a “zero star” rating is not an option given we did not stay long enough to even try the food. Upon entering we were asked if we had a booking. We did not and we were all but told to leave. As it turned out there were about four spare tables. Upon being seated we were asked for our water preference. Five minutes or so later still no water. We were asked by another waiter for our water preference and he also informed us of the specials. Twenty five minutes passed and we were not once approached by either of the three wait staff for a drink order, let alone for our meal order. Let me emphasise that the staff were not busy. The matre d was witnessed making a cocktail at the bar which he took into the kitchen. The resulting commotion from the kitchen staff could be heard in the restaurant. Needless to say we had had enough and departed elsewhere. Unless there is a change in staff, I will not be going back. So much for being one of Hamilton’s best establishments.

One of my favourite restaurants in Hamilton. Have enjoyed all my meals there. Will definitely go back.

Great, venison was great, and the black dorris desert was amazing.

I can’t beleive the previous review… This place rocks. The food is always beatuifully presented and tastes great!! Service excellent and they have an extensive wine list to match there beatuiful food! Try it out!

Had heard good things about this place but it did not live up to expectations. The service was only passable and the food was, to be honest, pretty bland. Neither of us bothered to finish our mains. Overall a bit lacking. Won’t be back.
