As visitors from Christchurch with family in Dunedin we love coming to the Careys Bay Hotel to get away from it all. The food, old world atmosphere and amazing views are cetainly worth the 15 minute drive from town.
On our most recent visit we were really impressed to see their gorgeous new menu, full with really interesting seafood options. I went for the oyster, scallop and brie soup special while my husband adventurously tried the bluecod head and wing seafood soup of the day. Both were outstanding while being completely different to each other. The waitress joked about the oyster soup being a “heart-attack in a bowl” – at least I would have died happy!
We always have a wonderful time at the hotel and know to request our favourite window seat now, the staff are friendly and relaxed and still deliver top service that makes you feel like a valued customer. We will be back!

Gorgeous location and nice ambiance but average food and poor service. A big disappointment for a 21st birthday lunch.

There is always something special about dining at Carey’s Bay. This is my fourth meal and I have sat in four different locations. This time it was at a table beside a huge window overlooking the bay. That in itself was worth the cost. I love the informality.

My wife and I had the sole fillet fish and it was superb. I also enjoyed being able to drink Emerson’s Beer on tap.

The staff were friendly and helpful.
