I had a meal at Casa Bella while travelling through Gore to Te Anau. What a lovely restaurant with great service and beautiful meals. I had the salmon main and contrary to the previous poster I throughly enjoyed it. The size of the salmon was adequate, and the potato salad a fresh and novel take on a classic. For dessert I had the white chocolate almond cake that was simply devine.
I have eaten at a few of the restaurants in Gore on my travels and would recommend Casa Bella above any of the others. I urge people to ignore the previous poster’s comments about this establishment. They obviously have no taste or capability of appreciating a fine dinning experience, so leave them to the take-away establishments were their taste can be fully catered for in a paper bag.

I had lunch today.
The menu is sparse.
I chose salmon. The portion was tiny, which didn’t worry me as I generally eat Asian, and prefer a small amount of meat and lots of vegetables and rice.
However to accompany it there were some fennel leaves which were purely decorative and which a rabbit would get no nutrition out of.
The potato salad consisted of a small number of potato bits which should have been cut in half again, with a bit of mayo on top.
Not part of the potato with bit of mayo were 3 slivers of egg white and three small bits of egg yolk.
That is not how you serve potato salad.
I gave both the waiter and the cashier my thoughts.
Don’t be fooled by the old house.
Last time I told both the cook and cashier off.
The cook said they were an Italian restaurant.
Well where is the Italian food.
I only went today because it was a work lunch.
If you want to eat in Gore,i recommend the Thai restaurant named the Bamboo Tree,or Howl At The Moon across the road.
I have never yet had a decent meal at CasaBella and would not recommend it..
For the $18 i paid at Casabella,I would get an entree and a main at Bamboo Tree.
Or for a bit more,I could get a decent meal at Howl At The Moon.
People can rave on about atmosphere and service in restaurants.
Give me a decent meal in preference as priority number one.
And if it is going to be small,I at least expect a bit of creativity…At least to the standard I could present myself..
Naturally,I refused to buy drinks or dessert.

The food had a lovely flavour which was shadowed only by the slightly long time it took to arrive. I loved the idea of separate rooms for private functions. Well done. Keep up the good work
