We have been to the new Cinnamon Restaurant 2 times now and have had a wonderful time.

Loving the fresh image and traditional dress of the staff. Each time we have been they have looked after us so well.

We found Cinnamon to be extremely clean and well presented. The food was amazing.

I highly recommend a visit to the locals and if you are passing through Taupo. Well done what a beautiful Indian Restaurant.

Not vegetarian friendly.

Went for lunch last Saturday.

Menu Lunch special says selection of curry + rice. So the party of three being all vegetarian asked for different vegetarian curry options.

Apparently there was only ONE curry option allowed–because it said so on the black board outside ! Which we later found had three non-vegetarian curries but only one vegetarian option that day.

So all of us had the option of ordering the same curry or order from the a la carte menu which we did. An Indian restaurant and only one vegetarian option — c’mon Cinnamon you can do better than that.

Also a bit more customer friendly approach would have seen you come up with an alternate when this was pointed out….but you refused.

Well what can I say. My rating says it all. Being an Indian I know my food and by far this one is not close to Indian food. Chicken Jalfrez was suppose to be spicy but not close to it… also it was not properly seasoned and not much taste. The ambiance is all I am giving 2 stars for and the gazals playing in the background. The staff lack the normal warmth you expect from restaurant. The staff did try to offer me a new dish but when I said it was upto him, he just went back to the bar and never came back. I also express my disappointment while paying the cheque but he had not much to comment.

Have been there several times now and the food always has been very good. Especially the staff is very friendly and the menu offers also very tasty specials, which are not found in every Indian restaurant. Always had nice evenings there with friends and family and I’m looking forward to my next dinner in the Cinnamon Restaurant. Special Thanks to Adit, who has always been a lovely waiter!!!

I love this place. The food is consistently good and the service is friendly and attentive. I really like the fact that you can see the kitchen on your way in. It is reassuring to see that it always looks very clean and well organised. The menu is varied and the dishes are beautifully presented and delicious. The staff are attentive the waiters friendly and responsive and the atmosphere is relaxed. Well worth a visit!
Thoroughly recommended.

This restaurant has certainly had a face lift along with its new name. It is a much brighter incantation from the previous Indian restaurant on this site. We had the banquet special – $25 for entree, main and naan. The service was attentive and friendly, however given that for most of the meal we were the only customers one would expect this to be the case. There was quite some time between food items which is somewhat unusual for Indian restaurants where the food usually comes very promptly. The Butter Chicken had good flavour but was let down by being barely warm – both the rice and butter chicken needed a good ‘zap’ in a microwave oven to bring it up to a reasonable heat. Not sure I would be in a hurry to return, I think there are better Indian restaurants in Taupo.

It was a rather uneven night for myself and two friends when we visited Cinnamon recently, and I cannot say that we will be rushing to go back. We had previously been disappointed by this restaurant’s prior incarnation as “Heritage of India”, but were tempted back to visit by the updated menu, and cocktail lounge as advertised on the cinnamon website. The evening started well enough, as we were welcomed inside by the manager and our first drinks and entrée orders taken. A quirk of this establishment is the ‘traditional’ dress of the staff, which somewhat jarrs with the pared-back, ‘contemporary’ interior. I would have to say as a place to sit and dine, it was lacking the ambience or warmth the old Heritage had.

The wheels began to wobble on our dining experience when the waitress who came to us to take our order for the mains was completely inadequately prepared for the task. She was a lovely, personable young lady, and I think one day she will be a GREAT waitress – but it became clear in seconds that not only was this her first waitressing gig, but also the training she’d received was minimal, a fault I lay directly at the feet of the management. So, on to the food. Our entrées were delicious, lip-smackingly good baji and samosa and other goodies on a sizzle platter that we ate with gusto. But the wheels fell off completely when it came to the mains; of our party that had the butter chicken, he described it after as ‘chewy and burnt tasting’; I’d just gotten a prawn curry when I immediately noticed how cold they were. Cutting one open I found it translucent and still basically raw, so I had to send it back to be cooked further. The properly cooked curry, when it came back, was delicious – but when a kitchen sends out a dish that badly undercooked on a quiet evening, it is a bit of a worry.

Having survived the main course, we were after some of their famed Indian cocktails; these were not incorporatMoreed into the main drinks list, so we had to ask after them to find out what was available. After we ordered, these drinks did take awhile longer to arrive than was warranted. They still seemed to be looking up the recipes for each drink behind the bar. At $18 each, they were at the upper end of what you’d expect to pay for a cocktail.

For me, uneven describes it best, and it is somewhat of a shame for these guys as the competition for Indian Dining in Taupo is more fierce than ever.

I was deeply concerned to hear your feedback, and have instructed our kitchen to ensure that it will never happen again for a dish to be at all under-cooked. Once we had gotten past this unfortunate glitch, I was very pleased to hear that the replacement that we…    More »

We were there a week ago on a Monday – a group of six. Excellent service, great meal, everyone was happy with their choice. The only quibble was a lack of information about nuts in dishes (one diner with a nut allergy) and although this was explained, we weren’t told about nuts in dishes we ordered.
Would definitely return and recommend to others.

Happy to hear from the restaurant that they are improving the information about the menu. Thank you.

Thank you kindly for sending your feedback to us Anne. We apologise that we had not realised your guest with nut allergy would be sharing some of the other diners’ meals also! We have taken steps to improve info on the menu, and the way we manage a table when we…    More »

We visited Cinnamon in Taupo on way back to our north trip. We drive around on Monday and most of the night life businesses were dead and the Cinnamon only was busy with few locals & visitors. We decided to visit and was wonderful evening! Restaurant is superb with Indian furniture, trendy bar and wall decor. Wall Aquarium which is truly exceptional and beautiful to look at tropical fishes, staffs were in authentic Indian costume, truly professional and lovely. The menu was the best ever I seen from any Indian Restaurants in New Zealand. We ordered curries, breads and their speciality, Roasted Duck Curry. That was very mild but the sauce to accompaniment was spicy enough with great flavours. Can’t wait to go again. Service was great and Thank you.
