After changing our minds from having Breakfast at Millie’s cafe in Hokitika, we decided to try Clocktower cafe as we thought it had a better menu. Well, were we utterly disapointed. We arrived at the counter to a dull lady that didnt even say hello to me, the atmosphere was boring, we ordered and took our seats. The cafe only had another 2 or 3 tables of 2 people in at this time. A local came in after us, and got his meal far before we did! Our meal took 40MINUTES to come out!!! We were extremely close to walking out, just before our meals arrived. No apology for the long wait, nothing! Terrible experience and would never recommend this cafe to anyone.

After an amazing walk along the Kanieri Water Race we returned to Hokitika, a little cold and very wet.
Walking through the doors of the Clocktower Cafe, my husband and I were treated like long lost relatives. A big smile, a great coffee and the cosy surroundings were a sanctuary.
The menu is extensive with local influences, I had an outstanding venison pie (even took another one home for later) and Hubby had the most phenomenal whitebait omelette, choker full of the local delicacy. A real treat.

We can not speak highly enough of this cafe which had to be the best we came across on the tour down the West Coast. It was bustling and full of laughter, great food with proper coaster hospitality, a real joy.
