Cobb & Co is a restaurant and bar situated in the historic St Amand Hotel on The Strand, Tauranga. It opened in May 2010 and has a great old-hotel syle ambiance. It is air-conditioned, so lovely and warm in winter plus nice and cool in summer.
A new menu was launched in April, featuring all the old Cobb favourites like Shrimp Cocktails, the Cobb Schnitzel, Steak Sizzler, Hoover Hog, Roast of the Day and the Chicken Alex. Plus lots of new dishes like Prawn and Parmesan Sirloin, Salt and Pepper Squid and Margarita Chicken.
We serve a great range of wines and beers (nine on tap – both Lion and DB brands), plus the famous Traffic Light cocktail for kids.
This is a great venue for families, with 3 playstations, plenty of toys in the play area and a 2 metre long fishtank to keep the little ones occupied. Ask to be seated in the family area and you’ll be assured of happy kids!
There is a separate dining area we use for groups of up to 40, plus an area around the fire and bar for adults. There are Cobb booths as well as chairs: if you prefer one type of seating over the other, just tell our waitstaff when you book.
Birthdays and family get-togethers are “our thing”: party hats, balloons, birthday cakes… We make it special.
It’s best to book if you would like to come on Friday, Saturday or Sunday – hope to see you soon!

Plus all the kids were well separated from us oldies! We’ll come again next time we’re in town.
For my husband and I and our two children and baby it cost $98 I had the entree kumera and bacon soup and some bread, the soup was about 1cm deep. Very dissapointing. The other meals were all served with fries fries and more fries. We could have eaten at the astrolabe for the same price and we would have had top service and tasty healthy food. Gutted we wasted the money. The rest of extended family that was dining with us also were really dissapointed. I will never ever go there again. Try breakers at the mount for a cheap family meal. Or the little Mexican restraunt downtown mt. Cheap and nasty but child friendly and tasty. Not over priced deep fry chips, meat and vege. Don’t go there.

So I challenge all those that oppose,as the staff that have been there from the beginning have had there up’s and down’s but yet they always have a pleasant smile and have a good laugh with all the people that enter there domain.

Tonight myself and three friends decided to try out the new Cobb & Co with our old memories of the traffic lights and snuggly booths.
We all ate different items from the menu and couldnt fault them. At the end of the day it is Cobb & Co, the meals were exactly as described, healthy sized portions and certainly not cold. Its a family restaurant and so it seemed especially suited to entertaining familys with a generous play area for the nippers to run about in.
The staff were friendly and looked after us well. Like the earlier review stated the decor is fantastic, very inviting.
We certainly will be going back. Admittedly the Traffic Light is far too sweet for an adults taste but give it to your kid, watch them hit the roof. Reminded us of great times as a Kiwi kid.

My girlfriend and I are always keen to try out new exciting places, we tend to stay away from chain restaurants.
We gave the new cobb n co a try cause it looked new, re-invented and polished. Pity the food wasn’t.
This place has an amazing opportunity on the waterfront of Tauranga to seize a chance to be the top family restaurant on the strand.
To start off, we walked in to look at the menu, We spent a good few minutes looking over the menu and thought yeah we’ll try it.
We then waited another 2 minutes for a front of house staff to seat us. One waitress even looked right at us then proceeded to take some glasses to the bar to be cleaned.
The Crumbed Camembert was still ice cold in the middle, They are meant to be melted inside apparently and the bed of lettuce it was served on was well past its due date. Old wilted and lifeless.
My girlfriend ordered the Chicken Sandwich. No issues there.
I ordered the Pork main meal, It’s what you would expect from Cobb n Co 10 years ago. Standard mash potatoes which were cold as well, Apple sauce and some dark green mushy broccoli. I would of loved to see cobb n co’s old stock standard menu re-invented for the tastes and appetites for this day and age.
I really hope cobb n co can turn itself around down on the strand. It has so much potential and an amazing set up in there, Warm, Cosy and the booths are great.
If I hear that it’s improved or read a review that challenges mine, I will be glad to return for another meal.
