Cobb & Co is a restaurant and bar situated in the historic St Amand Hotel on The Strand, Tauranga. It opened in May 2010 and has a great old-hotel syle ambiance. It is air-conditioned, so lovely and warm in winter plus nice and cool in summer.

A new menu was launched in April, featuring all the old Cobb favourites like Shrimp Cocktails, the Cobb Schnitzel, Steak Sizzler, Hoover Hog, Roast of the Day and the Chicken Alex. Plus lots of new dishes like Prawn and Parmesan Sirloin, Salt and Pepper Squid and Margarita Chicken.

We serve a great range of wines and beers (nine on tap – both Lion and DB brands), plus the famous Traffic Light cocktail for kids.

This is a great venue for families, with 3 playstations, plenty of toys in the play area and a 2 metre long fishtank to keep the little ones occupied. Ask to be seated in the family area and you’ll be assured of happy kids!

There is a separate dining area we use for groups of up to 40, plus an area around the fire and bar for adults. There are Cobb booths as well as chairs: if you prefer one type of seating over the other, just tell our waitstaff when you book.

Birthdays and family get-togethers are “our thing”: party hats, balloons, birthday cakes… We make it special.

It’s best to book if you would like to come on Friday, Saturday or Sunday – hope to see you soon!

had a delicious meal here with my family! the service was quick and friendly and we were seated at a clean welcoming table. the food was delicious! we all had steak, which was cooked to our liking and came with big portions which we couldn’t put away. i also had a cocktail, the toblerone, which was so good i proceded to ask the bartender how to make it. 4 stars!

My husband and I had a lovely meal at Cobb and Co on Friday night. The staff could not have been friendlier and the service was very quick – almost too quick. We hadn’t even finished the Cobb loaf starter when our mains arrived. However we didn’t have a lot of time so that suited us. i had the apricot chicken breast and my husband had the hoover hog. Both meals were big portions and delicious. dessert was served equally fast and again big servings and delicious. We will definitely be going again soon.

Went here for Dad’s birthday in April: 4 kids aged 12 to 6, their 4 parents and 2 oldies. It was great: kids really had a good night out and loved the treat of the playstations after they had eaten, cos they don’t get that at home (they got taties, main and dessert for about $13 – I think), Dad was happy and managed 3 courses off the Seniors Menu for about $25 (which I thought was a bargain – mind you, he was disappointed they didn’t have Lambs Fry and Bacon, which he has had there before), my husband had a GREAT steak (always a priority). If all those 3 stars are in alliance, then that’s a good night by my standards – so long as I have a really nice glass of Chardonnay in hand. Which I did, so it was a really good family time and I thought the final bill was pretty reasonable. Specially cos we left quite a mess behind….

Easter was really busy on The Strand, but our group had booked at Cobb and Co and had a most enjoyable evening. Great new menu, plenty of choice, and staff were welcoming and friendly. The food was excellent and we congratulate the staff for making our special night out so memorable.

Thank goodness good old Cobb&Co is here – too hard to find in Ak. Extensive menu far wider than earlier days and excellent value starting with roast of the day! Turkey !! My steak & prawns was tender and cooked to order. Others enjoyed the lamb shanks and chicken breast. Service friendly and attentive considering the crowd in for the jazz festival.
Plus all the kids were well separated from us oldies! We’ll come again next time we’re in town.

Very expensive for such basic meals. Terrible service, dinner took a long time to come out and once we had finished the dishes were NEVER cleared away. We gave up waiting for our childrens dessert but they bought it out and served it between the dirty main meal dishes.

For my husband and I and our two children and baby it cost $98 I had the entree kumera and bacon soup and some bread, the soup was about 1cm deep. Very dissapointing. The other meals were all served with fries fries and more fries. We could have eaten at the astrolabe for the same price and we would have had top service and tasty healthy food. Gutted we wasted the money. The rest of extended family that was dining with us also were really dissapointed. I will never ever go there again. Try breakers at the mount for a cheap family meal. Or the little Mexican restraunt downtown mt. Cheap and nasty but child friendly and tasty. Not over priced deep fry chips, meat and vege. Don’t go there.

We are (of course) very sorry you had a bad experience. A new restaurant manager started with us just before Easter and her priority is to improve the service standards and has been training and employing staff with this in mind. She is extremely well-trained…    More »

Unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to try out this restaurant but reading some of the reviews think we should be lucky we didn’t waste our money. We were turned away at the door, told there was over an hour wait for a table by one waitress then she walked away and served a group that had just walked. As we were walking out we were approached by another staff member who seemed puzzled that we were leaving, we could see plenty of tables available. I can’t help but wonder how child friendly this restaurant is as we had a child with us. You can’t expect a child to wait over an hour before we could have a table then probably another 30mins+ to get served. This put a damper on our holiday, but at least we didn’t waste our money on an overpriced menu.

Bookings are advisable for Friday, Saturday and Sundays: the restaurant may not look full, but often all empty tables are actually reserved for people who have made bookings. Check out the menu – we do not believe it is overpriced. We serve big meals at…    More »

Our family of four had dinner at Cobb and Co, things started off ok, except there was no mention of the specials and they forgot a plate of cobbs for one of my children which caused an upset. The meal was basic, a bit more flair with the salad would have been better, maybe some coleslaw instead of a bit of lettuce with dressing on it. The service was no existent, wait staff kept walking past our table piled high with dirty dishes, my son had to ask where his dessert was, the adults weren’t offered any or anymore drinks for that matter! We were only offered drinks at the beginning when the waiter introduced himself! Time management in the kitchen and customer service training is whats needed here. The meals were on the dear side for what you got. We wont be returning.

Everyone who comes to Cobb gets free Cobb Crunchies – usually a bowl of these complimentary snacks is popped on the table for each group to share. Please just ask if your child would like a bowl all of their own. The dishes piling up and no offers of drinks is…    More »

We have been to the cobb a few times, when it first opened and many other times. I must say yes there is now and again faults with meals and service, but seriously not everyone is perfect. I think personally the portions and value of meals that are served is way more than expected and is within the cost range compared to other so called family orientated restaurants in Tauranga if there is any that falls under that category.
So I challenge all those that oppose,as the staff that have been there from the beginning have had there up’s and down’s but yet they always have a pleasant smile and have a good laugh with all the people that enter there domain.

Hideously expensive for low quality food, bad location for a family restaurant aswell, absolutely no atmosphere. Was appaled at how close together the tables were. Service was average. In no way could I recommend dining there.

Dined at Cobb & Co on Friday Night – Expensive – top dollar for very standard food. Meat/seafood, potato and salad – The staff were lovely but the food left a lot to be desired – the ‘baked potato’ two huge barely warm potato halves – the mashed potato was cold. Meals, very average, did not come out at the same time and the accompanying sauce for steak didn’t arrive for until we had all started to eat.

This place was fantastic !!!!!! Three generations of us really enjoyed our food. The service was excellent, the food superb for adults and the kids menus and drinks were very well catered for. This place has filled a large gap in the market and we will be returning and telling everyone we know that they must pay this place a visit !
Well done Cobb and Co !

Last week 8 of us dined at Cobb, it was 2 9 year olds birthdays plus one adult. I had booked the week before and explained this but when we got there we found Cobb had seated us at 2 different tables ! One was a booth, which are made for slim people and the other was a metre away and about a foot lower ! When I complained I was told there was no other tables available. I asked about the nearly vacant area near the kitchen and was told it was for senior citizens. As our children are quiet responsible 9 year olds I argued that we should be able to sit there, which the manager finally agreed on. We did have a pleasant enough evening apart from being right in the view of the open kitchen, not being served well, having to repeat our choices, the music was a bit too loud for conversation and the fact that one meal was totally forgotton – we could see it finally being cooked after we complained. It was true flash back Cobb and Co meals, average, not cheap and we would’ve thought that after all these years some meals would have been updated. Thats 8 people would will not eat there again !

A friend and I visited Cobb and Co Tauranga last Sunday night, all was pretty much as expected from the Cobb but the seafood chowder was just awful, it was a thick plate of sludge with 2-3 mussels immersed in it and not much else discernable apart from finely chopped what appeared to be carrots, prices are right up there as well – Gilly

We recently went to Cobb n Co Tauranga for lunch for my daughters 6th birthday. The service was excellent, food was amazing and it was very reasonably priced. Plus they have a children’s play area which was great because it meant that our children could play while waiting for their meals and it meant a more relaxed meal for us as parents as we weren’t worried about having to make the children sit still for the whole time. Very family friendly and enjoyable, we will certainly be going back again.

I challenge your review good sir.

Tonight myself and three friends decided to try out the new Cobb & Co with our old memories of the traffic lights and snuggly booths.

We all ate different items from the menu and couldnt fault them. At the end of the day it is Cobb & Co, the meals were exactly as described, healthy sized portions and certainly not cold. Its a family restaurant and so it seemed especially suited to entertaining familys with a generous play area for the nippers to run about in.

The staff were friendly and looked after us well. Like the earlier review stated the decor is fantastic, very inviting.

We certainly will be going back. Admittedly the Traffic Light is far too sweet for an adults taste but give it to your kid, watch them hit the roof. Reminded us of great times as a Kiwi kid.

Sad to see that I am the first review for the new Cobb n Co Tauranga. I thought there would be plenty of reviews.

My girlfriend and I are always keen to try out new exciting places, we tend to stay away from chain restaurants.

We gave the new cobb n co a try cause it looked new, re-invented and polished. Pity the food wasn’t.
This place has an amazing opportunity on the waterfront of Tauranga to seize a chance to be the top family restaurant on the strand.

To start off, we walked in to look at the menu, We spent a good few minutes looking over the menu and thought yeah we’ll try it.
We then waited another 2 minutes for a front of house staff to seat us. One waitress even looked right at us then proceeded to take some glasses to the bar to be cleaned.

The Crumbed Camembert was still ice cold in the middle, They are meant to be melted inside apparently and the bed of lettuce it was served on was well past its due date. Old wilted and lifeless.

My girlfriend ordered the Chicken Sandwich. No issues there.

I ordered the Pork main meal, It’s what you would expect from Cobb n Co 10 years ago. Standard mash potatoes which were cold as well, Apple sauce and some dark green mushy broccoli. I would of loved to see cobb n co’s old stock standard menu re-invented for the tastes and appetites for this day and age.

I really hope cobb n co can turn itself around down on the strand. It has so much potential and an amazing set up in there, Warm, Cosy and the booths are great.

If I hear that it’s improved or read a review that challenges mine, I will be glad to return for another meal.
