I highly recommend anyone choosing places to dine please read reviews first as i have never before dined at cobb & co.

Last night a group of nine of my work friends were booked for dinner,

upon arrive we were greeted(lovely)
And truly that was the only lovely we got.

Frist of all we ordered two Bottles of Oyster Bay Sauv As the bottles of wine we wanted they didnt have. And Recieved 1 Bottle Of Sauv And 1 bottle of Chardonay I couldnt work this out so a friend asked about this and was given are you sure kind of look ,we are staring at the bottle yes we are sure we answered he replied i dont know how that happened,
We all ordered our entire menus together thinking we would get it all together this didnt happen we all received our entree except one of us i orderd the garlic baguette which was like eating buttered cardboard not impressed. So i was looking forward to my main which took a very long time to arrive( So we ordered more wine which again they couldnt provide and we had to ask twice for) I ordered Mushroom Fetticine that was disgusting and way over priced. So here i am once again disappointed not sure wether dessert is going to be any better when that finally arrived i really enjoyed
i thought great! (i shouldnt have) my next stop was the loo big mistake it took me four goes to find a clean loo when i did there was not loo papper so very tragic so i calmy spoke to this women about it and her reply WAS its not our problem its the councils and it was cleaned at 4pm My god women its now 10;30pm you are truley gonna wait for council workers to full loo papper in the morning when this is your food establishment it takes 2 seconds to replace loo paper just to keep your diners happy i thought thats the least you could do. That was not the end of our ordeal Billing time these people really take the cake they asked for our numbers what numbers only two of us were given numbers she said thats fine we will just go off her screen .Another big mistake she really had no idea this took again some time to sort out.All and all my first experience at Cobb & Co will Be my last

This was the most appalling meal I have had in a long, long time.

We had had a really busy Saturday, visiting sick grandparents and there was no food in our house. So we thought we’d take our toddler to Cobb and Co. We thought it would be a good relaxed place to go. Everything served up was either limp salad, overcooked veges or fried food. Is there no fresh food on their menu?

They served little deep fried potato rings to start. My partner ordered the mixed grill which was an assortment of revolting, fatty meat and burnt bacon. I ordered the scallops and fries with salad. $30.90 for this dish. Ok, so not cheap, cheap so I expect some fresh, pan-fried scallops. But oh no. I got limp, old salad and worst of all, what were clearly pre-prepared, frozen scallops, already breadcrumbed in these hideous pockets of soggy breadcrumbs. I couldn’t bear to eat the disgusting muck encasing them so cut each one open to see what was inside. Lots of air and water for a start. The scallops were all a uniform, reconstituted shape. They had no flavour or texture apart from that of rubber.

The kids menu for 1-3 looked pretty good but I was not sure if there was anything available that was not deep fried. So I asked. I was told that everything was deep fried. So I asked if they could at least just do a grilled or pan-fried piece of fish. I was told they could not. From this response, I presumed that everything was pre-prepared and frozen.
When our waiter came to ask how our meals were, I told him about the scallops and said they were obviously bought in, frozen, already encased in breadcrumbs. He confirmed that they are. He said he would pass on my comments to the manager.

When we left, the manager said it was good to hear our comments and agreed again that the scallops were bought in, frozen.

I am staggered that in New Zealand, a restaurant cannot source fresh scallops and simply coat them in seasoned flour and egg and breadcrumbs and pan fry them for 1-2 minutes each side, serving them with a dollop of tartare sauce and a fresh salad. I remember Cpbb and Co from my childhood. It was nothing fancy but it was fresh. This Cobb and Co is serving anything but fresh food. It is a real shame because I am sure that there are plenty of parents out there who would like to take their kids to a restaurant where they serve fresh, simple fare for adults and kids.

From reading other reviews, most seem to agree that the food is appalling. I would say that service was good for us and very friendly. That was the only saving grace. I cannot believe that there is anyone who actually finds the food good. Perhaps these people eat lots of deep fried food and soggy lettuce at home?

We were looking for a place to have a lunch, My wife and I enjoyed our Date here. Food was very tasty and hot and as I remember my first bite puffing Hot…Hot…Hot! Service was well presented, with a smile by all staff and timing to each of the servings was spot on. We were not kept waiting. Recommend it to others…Oh yes and you can take a stroll in the park afterward! Well done guys.

Took my family of 6 for dinner. Friendly staff, good service, huge meals (one of our teenage sons couldn’t finish his burger & chips). It wasn’t a gobble & go but for an evening out we don’t mind spending 2 hours enjoying good company and taking our time over good food.
I recommend this restaurant.

I’m sorry I ever turned up at this place! As a family we’re not big on going out but for special occasions. Upon arrival we were greeted by a waitress who COMPLAINED about the hours she worked. We hadn’t even been seated yet. 6.15pm. Noticed that the place was quiet empty, good for our two boys to get used to a restaurant. Also noticed other patrons were looking for service, from a distance, and “lip reading” they were not happy. 6.30pm.
6.45pm Waitress bought drinks to table, little plastic animal would not clip to childs glass so she slammed it into the drink stating “that thing is frustrating me!” 7.00pm Kids main meal arrives sans some appetiser nibbles on menu. One other family arrives (don’t come in I thought), previous one leaves. 7.15pm Adult appetiser arrives, kids have finished their mains. 7.45pm Main arrive & ordered a 2nd beer. 8.15pm Steak had been barely edible, steaks done medium do not still bleed in my book. Kids plates had not been picked up. 8.30pm Kids deserts arrived, we declined the offer of desert, 2nd beer turned up @ 8.45pm! Waitress complained that the next guests to come were a table of 25! There was barely 15 people at four tables when we were there so how could they manage one sitting of 25??
We’ll never go back & strongly recommend that you do the same. For another few dollars we should have gone somewhere local in West Auckland.

Friendly staff, they have a family feel about them. Food wasn’t as good unfortunately. I had the ribs, they looked horrible and tasted like they had been boiled. Quite a bit of fat on them. I only ate a couple. I’ll stick to Lonestar ribs! It’s also a bit on the pricey side for what it is.

Worst meal we’ve ever experienced. Fish which we had been told was Terikihi was inedible (frozen & crumbed fillets rather than fresh). It was slimy and had an over powering fish flavour. The chicken strip in the toddlers meal was so old and tough that an adult wouldn’t have been able to chew it let alone our 18mth old. Toasted sandwich was really just dry stale bread with semi warm cheese in the middle. There is no excuse for food of this quality. We would have been better off going to our local takeaway where we could have had an enjoyable lunch at a fraction of the cost but would have been served fresh fish cooked in clean oil and not have risked food poisoning!

We had a shocking meal, the Cobb loafs were flat and raw into middle, then when our mains arrived both the chicken burgers were cold, my daughters spare ribs looked disgusting and with bits of meat put on a plate, my little girls meal, her chip entree never arrived. We would not recommend this restaurant to anybody. We went to Cobb & Co, up North a couple of weeks ago and it was excellent.

A very disappointing experience. We took my mother for her 91st birthday. We ordered coffee – arrived cold and we could drink it straight down. Two orders of BIG BREAKFAST came without mushrooms and the toast was warm bread (not toasted). We mentioned the mushrooms, they apologised and brought out a bowl of tinned mushrooms. – Not impressed. I am a vegetarian so ordered an omlette with Mushrooms, Onion and Tomato. NO MUSHROOMS in omlette but ham instead. I commented, they apologised but didn’t offer to take back. I took out all the ham and was left with a tiny bit of onion and 2 small slices of tomato. Can only assume they had NO MUSHROOMS but would have expected to have been told and given an alternative choice.
When paying never offered the Senior Gold Card discount for my mum.

I have never had a bad experience at any Cobb & Co. but this was really disappointing.

This has to be one of the worst places I’ve dinned at.
We went there for a birthday party and the staff were told exactly what was required. The cake was not as requested.
The lady was extremely friendly but the waiters acted more like a side show.
Too busy showing off to pay attention to what was being asked.
My wife asked for a desert which was on the kids menu after her main but was told that she could not have one! Since when has it become illegal or too dangerous to dish out a kids desert to an adult? Instead she ordered a drink instead of a desert.
The deserts were a very long time coming and we were forgotten about as we sat and watched other clients who arrived after us being served their deserts.
We asked the attention of one of the waiters, who also was going to get our order request wrong and was not listening to the requests.
Our drinks were also not forth coming so we decided to leave.
Mine never arrived at all.
A very disappointing experience.
We were just placed at our tables , given the mains and ignored.
No “How is your meal” or any follow ups for drinks etc.
Never again!

Service was slow, it was a 2 hour dining experience.
Starters (seafood chowder, soup of the day) were very tasty, had plenty of good bits in them and were ultimately satisfying. However, both were luke warm. Also our hungry five year old did not receive anything for quite some time, I would have expected the crunchie letter things, listed on the child’s menu as a starter, to come out with the adults starters. If we were really worried though, we could have ordered more bread.
Again, the wait for mains was much longer than I would have expected. The lamb shanks and the roast pork were both delicious. Child and adults were all very happy with deserts.
I didn’t mind the waiting too much as the environment was relaxed and the staff pleasant.
Be careful where you park and what you leave in your car. We arrived to find our front passenger window smashed in and the glove box open (nothing taken).

We dined at this restaurant on 19th June for lunch after being turned away from other restaurants because they were too busy. There was a large family group being seated at the same time we arrived so we expected to be turned away from here too, but we were welcomed, seated and served right away. The lady at the door made us feel at ease immediately.

The staff were friendly and attentive and worked really well together. We both ordered an old favourite – the schnitzel. Our meal was delivered to our table promptly and it was nicely presented. The food was fresh and delicious, and meals being brought out for other tables looked substantial – great traditional family fare at reasonable prices.

We were really impressed by the whole experience, particularly by the fantastic attitude of the staff, who were very busy but so obviously used to coping with large crowds.

Well done! We’re delighted Cobb & Co has made a return to Auckland and we’ll definitely be back.

I thought I,d give Cobb n co another go after receiving consistantly bad meals from various outlets across Auckland over a number of years. Ged and I arrived at their Western Springs restaurant in a happy mood looking forward to having a meal together after a hectic week. We ordered the pork roast each and once again true to form it looked repulsive, old ,microwaved muck hashed from lord knows when. Then to add to the insult of serving that pig swill, some so called manageress had the audacity to glare at me like I was some spoilt diva and demanded to know what was wrong with this plate of muck when I refused to eat it and demanded a refund. The impression I got from the experience was an unhappy kitchen and it shows in the food. Heed my warning. Enter at your own risk.

We visited on a Saturday in April 2010 and found parking was easy. We received a friendly welcome.

The venue was ideal, and excellently maintained.

The food couldn’t have been better, and the service was exceptional.

I cannot understand the unfriendly reviews.

Our extended family (12 of us) had a lovely time at Western Springs Cobb & Co on April 26 th, 2010.(A Monday.)

The meals all looked lovely, and mine was very generous in quantity also, and tasted great.
The delicious roast beef on my plate was the amount I would eat over 2 or 3 dinners at home. !

We could all hear each other speak, which is better than a lot of noisy eateries.
The hostesses went about their waiting with great good humour.
We did not feel rushed at all, and no-one had anything to complain about.
The wood ceiling and red decor (which I like) added to the ambience. All in all – a good evening, and a venue I can recommend to others.

Went there tonight with our 2 kids. Reminded me of Cobb & Co Mum and Dad used to take us to when we were teenagers. The place is very clean and they still have the old Cobb pencils and games for the kids, I remember those!
Kids meals came out fairly promptly so that kept them quiet, yah:) We enjoyed the lambs fry and my husband loved his lamb shank, my steak was cooked fine too. It’s unfortunate to read the earlier comments here as we thought it was good and reasonably priced for our family, we’ll be back again.

i have been reading over the reviews for the traditional cobb n co.. i have now dined at the cobb n co located in western springs on countless occasions, if i cant be bothered cooking i go to the cobb. i have had many different dishes all wanderfully presented and although some have little tweeks that could be made over all the food is fantastic. my partner and i share the same views on this. i have taken my family there and my grandma has gone with a group of her friends there views on the meals and service were above par. so im sorry to all those who have had these horrible experiences i dont know how this couldve happend when ive known nothing but scruptious food from this establishment.
well done jane goodluck to you and your business!

I used to love Cobb & co till tonight we were told that our mains would take over 45 Min’s so should order entrees, so we did some of the entrees came out fast others took longer we waited and waited as other tables complained and left over a hour passed and the kids meals came out at this stage we had spent a fair bit on drinks waiting for our mains then half of the mains came out but then the other half came out 10 Min’s later . The food was below par i got a spoonful of mashed potato and what was meant to be seasonal veggies were peas and carrots with my lamb shank , no one was impressed with there food and for the price is was a rip off!! nothing was taken off the bill for the wait and when the front of house staff asked if it was worth the wait and i said not really he said you could always go to Manakau then i would not waste my time or money going there again.

My girlfriend and I grew up going to Cobb & Co’s for many years in Northcote. So when she flew up to Auckland and was staying in Grey Lynn. Well we just had to go to the new Cobb & Co.!!!!

Well I wish we had read the reviews before entering the building. It was the most disgusting meal we have ever had.

We ordered the Cobb loaf to start. That was piping hot when it came out and within 5 minutes has gone coldand rock hard. So my quess is that it was microwaved. Also came out with no butter. We ordered the oils which you have to pay extra for which also was disgusting.

There was approx 12 people in the restaurant and we still had to wait about 45 Min’s for the meal which was not good service.

Once the meals arrived we were both very disappointed. I order the beef schnitzel. It came out and looked like it had been deep fried half a dozen times. I tried to cut into it and was like rock. The side salad was a joke. A bit of salad and cucumber. My girlfriend ordered the Hoover Hog. Hog is about the right word for it. So much for crackling. Even my dog (bull mastiff) would have had trouble chewing it. It was tough as old boots. I personally think that it was heated up in the “yes” again microwave. Certainly was not cooked from scratched. The schnitzel was something you purchase from the supermarket.

I have read all the answers from “Jane” and am quite expecting to read the same regarding this. Jane you need to have a very serious look at your kitchen and meals. The waiting staff are very friendly but the food is a huge let down.

We paid $80.00 for your meals etc and it was a rip off. Would have been better going to McDonald’s up the road.

We will never come to this restaurant again and nor will any of our friends.

This was a family outing, to celebrate a childs birthday.

Traditionally Cobb & Co has offered good wholesome food for all the family, at reasonable prices.

The staff were very friendly, and the service was attentive. The three children in our party were looked after very well, and the birthday child appreciated the acknowledgement of his day.

The children menu is very good value for money, with variety, and substantial portions. The two teenagers in our group had three courses for $15.95, including garlic bread, steak/fries/salad, followed by an ice cream sundae.

However the main meals from the standard menu leave a lot to be desired. One member of the party ordered the Fish of the day, which was a pan fried Snapper. This meal was $29.95, and came with a baked potato and a small side salad. The amount of fish that was on the plate was pitiful. The meal consisted of two small fillets that measured 10cm x 5cm. I ordered the Cobb Snitzel, which it described as a traditional favourite. The snitzel was a deep fried processed lump of beef, ham and cheese. Not what it used to be. Ironically, the child servings were larger than those on the main menu.

The female member in our party ordered a Pina Colada, at $8. Of concern, having consumed half her cocktail, was the discovery of a long blonde hair in the drink. The waitress was very apologetic, and had no hesitation in removing this from the bill.

On departure from the restaurant, we wanted to split the bill, which was no problem whatsoever. The restaurant was able to provide an itemised account according to what each person had ordered.

Having read the previous reviews was loathe to go to this place but as it was an organised birthday event had no choice.

No service to speak of, no drinks service, had to go to the bar and get our own drinks.

Main meal took 2 1/2 hours to arrive, some people lucky enough to have ordered entrees at least got something to eat. The excuse and yes I do use that word was that they wanted us to get all our main meals together, so there were differing degrees of heat when they arrived.

I cut open my cobb schnitzel and the fat squirted out staining my top and absolutely drowning my chips and salad. Another had steak or as he called it a piece of leather on a plate. The roast of the day had a whole cob of corn on it with no way to pick it up except with your hands, what happened to corn forks – even a toothpick either side would have been appreciated.

No one ordered dessert as we had a birthday cake for the lucky girl – trap for young players – they charge $30.00 for bringing your cake out and letting you use their knife – beware.

Went home and had a cup of tea and a piece of toast – much nicer.

I have today been to Cobb n Co for the first time in many years. It is with some delight that my partner and I attended this restaurant for lunch today as we both had fond memories from childhood.

On entering the restaurant, we were greeted warmly and professionally and our order was taken by a very professional and well mannered young man.

Unfortunately that was as good as it got.

Our drinks arrived (with water and one more drink “still coming”) after our starters, and only after having asked for them. Kids drinks had small plastic animals perched precariously on edge of glass. Big risk if they fall in and the kids decide to drink without a straw. Extreme choking hazard alert which management would do well to change immeditaely.

Our daughter did not receive her entree as stated on the menu.

Half of our bread delivered by a waitress and the other half by the Chef?

Kids mains arrived with bread boards in front of all diners. When we pointed out she had not recieved her entree I was told “it didn’t matter as I was not getting charged for it”. What the….? The menu clearly states entree and included in the price. I’m not paying for what?????

Waitress then proceeds to discuss how the billing will appear and I will not be charged as it appears as a 0 balance on bill. Hmmmmm the fact I wasn’t getting what was advertised being slightly lost on her.

Our meals arrived and although meals looked great, the sauce that comes as a side at an extra cost, was minimal in a large side bowl. Barely covered the bottom of the side bowl and when put onto the steak did not cover half of the steak.

The Owner “Jane” arrives to discuss the no entree for child complaint. As I start to discuss my complaints with her, I am constantly interrupted and then, when I state that we are customers and not happy with the service and the way it was handled, “Jane” rolls her eyes at me. I inform “Jane” that I found this offensive and that I would appreciate that she does not roll her eyes whilst I am talking to her. I also advise that I am tempted to walk out of this restaurant due to the rude and unhelpful behaviour exhibited not only be herself but also her staff.

“Jane” hurrumps, sighs and informs me that conversations need to be “two ways”. When I say I am still talking “Jane” again rolls her eyes.

This prompts our decision to leave the restaurant.

“Jane” begrudgingly gave me her name when asked but was quite proud of being the owner.

I asked Jane if she required us to pay for our meal and “Jane” was quite clear that she preferred we leave the restaurant.

I am absolutely appalled by the behaviour exhibited by the staff (original male waiter excluded), however am not surprised by their rudeness given the owner exhibits such poor customer relation skills herself.

I absolutely will not return to this restaurant ever, and further will not ever reccommend it to anyone I know. I strongly urge any customers thinking of attending this restaurant to reconsider given a minor issue turned into a walk out due to some extremely poor customer service handling skills.

The waiter was excellent! Thank you for the service! Unfortunately the whole experience was one me and my partner would sooner forget! I would put this place on a par with Dining at McDonalds… “Should be a takeaway shop!”

We ordered the Loaf for starters… It came out with no butter… we asked for butter and then our Entree of Spare Ribs came out instead. By the time we got our butter the bread was cold and were served another bread. The Ribs were dry and luke warm along with the sauce. Half way through our entree, they brought our Mains out@!?… Our nice waiter thought with his head and took it away until we had finished entree. Unfortunately it was placed in a warmer! When we got onto this my pork was dry and bits of burn on it, potatoes were DRY DRY, and courgettes were soggy and over cooked. They replaced the dish with a new one but guesswhat? I got exactly the same! This place offers sauce for your meats at a price. Somthing I think odd. My partner asked for over cooked steak with no pink in it at all. Guess what??? It had pink in it! The salad had limp carrots in it and some lettuce looked like it had been sitting in the sun for a few days. Shrivelled and black and dry! We were offered dessert for free however, after all the mess up we thought not! In speaking with someone with authority to express our disappoinment, the words “Unfortunately, unfortunate” kept being muttered to us. Nothing unfortunate about it… just plain outright disgusting. In asking for some kind of compensation we were also told by this person “I feel threatened by your attitudes”. All I said was that without some kind of reasonable compensation, it could’ve ended up being a word of mouth thing where people would know about it. We did get 30% off full price by the end of it, however, my disappointment was such that I had to leave this review! Would never dine there again! Overpriced for supermarket foods being cooked, and lack of attention to detail when cooking. Poor! Recommend NOT visiting!

Cheers!

Waiters and Waitresses was 5 star. Service was awesome. Atmosphere was awesome. Lots of parking and 6 wheelchair parks. Acoustics very good. I could hear my friend very well. Presentation of restaurant excellent. Sadly the food was mostly packet or frozen food and at those prices it was just sad. My soy flat white turned into a large tasteless latte. I paid S49.75 for garlic bread too soft, entree overly cooked chicken sticks with a BBQ sauce of which I requested no onions and I got diced onions in the sauce, main was packet fish and chips cooked in old oil, dessert Pavlova very good and tasteless latte. The toilets needed some spider and cobweb maintenance. Cobb and Co has always been an excellent restaurant in the past and I have always had a good experience. PS Presentation of the food was also good. As I was there with my friend on her birthday I didn’t make a scene. Hope this helps. I look forward to my next experience at Cobb and Co. I was there on Friday 11th December.
