My husband and I our two kids aged 14 and 16 and my daughters friend aged 17 went to Cock and Bull for dinner we were seated by a very pleasant young man but that’s where the pleasantness ended, a waitress came over to take our drinks order my husband and I ordered a coke each, she then asked if all three kids were mine obviously I said no two are, she then asked the kids if they had id they said no, she then turned to me and said this is a licensed premises and my daughters friend cannot be there with out her parents but would double check with the manager, she came back and said its OK but she cannot order alcohol which she had no intention of doing, she then said wait its not alright to be here the manager will come over, the clueless manager came over and said we will have to leave as one of the kids wasn’t ours and its the law which has been in for a long time, i explained to her it was ridiculous and that wasn’t the law at all but she said it was and we have to leave, which we did, the restaurant had quite a few kids in eating with adults so I asked her if she had checked if every child had there parents with them she said no. I will never ever go back to Cock and Bull Hamilton, it was very embarrassing for us to be ordered out from someone who has no idea about the laws surrounding licensed premises, we then went to another licensed restaurant without any problem whatsoever. A word of advice to the Cock and Bull get rid of the clueless idiots you have working for you and train new ones properly as word of mouth is often said to be the best form of advertising but trust me it can also be the worst…

Great beer and decent pub food – NO GLUTEN FREE MENU.
This place is great for after work drinks and I do generally like eating here but the other day I went for a meal with a group of friends – one of whom is gluten intolerant. When the waitress came out the first time we asked for a gluten free menu, the second time we had to ask again, she finally came out saying “umm the pizzas can be made gluten free… I asked the kitchen staff and they kinda just looked at me… I think the roast of the day might be able to be made gluten free…” SERIOUSLY! In this day and age! very disappointing :(

So disappointing, every time. I absolutely love the atmosphere but the food is always average. I have even had wedges were were cold in the middle. Great location for after work drinks for those from Te Rapa, but will settle for fries next time.

Hi Aloma
It was a great place to bring the staff for our Christmas function and everybody enjoyed their meals.
We had heard the meals were well priced but good- and they were. Ambience very good and staff helpful and friendly! Good table placement for the group. We will come again!

Would diffinately come back. Food is pub food but what do you expect? Its a pub. In saying that though, food was of a high standard. Staff were attentive and friendly. We enjoyed our meals and the relaxe atmosphere and the price range is very good.

We often stop here when looking for somewhere for lunch when in Hamilton. Food is always nice, love the ginger beer but on our latest visit the staff could have been a bit more attentive. It was a friday lunch time and not overly busy. Ordered breads at the bar with out drinks and took menus to the table. When the breads were delivered (rather promptly) we were clearly ready to order but the were left at the table and we were then ignored by passing staff for the next 10 minutes before going to order at the bar

Like all Cock & Bull’s it is a bar trying to be a restaurant, or the other way around…
Food like most bar meals is basic but is cooked well at this Cock & Bull but is not a place if fie dinning. Have found them god for lunch but not for dinner.

My family and I often frequent the Cock & Bull and can honestly say we have never been disappointed, the service is fast and always friendly, the meals are great along with the prices. It doesn’t matter if they are full house or not the service doesn’t change – would love to see the bread and butter pudding back…. but always good, for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Don’t change a thing :)

We went here for our christmas function. I had the sefood chowder which was very thin almost like soup hardly any chuncks. Would recommend the steak meal which my partner had. Desert was reheated type and was quite dry. Overall for a pub style restraunt wasnt too bad.
